"Deep Down Inside" - new story available now.

I've got a brand-new short story titled "Deep Down Inside" published in the beautiful new anthology 13 Haunted Houses edited by Curtis M. Lawson and Joe Morey, available now.

"Deep Down Inside" is full-length 20 page affair, and I think it may be the best thing I've written in the last couple of years. It's the story of Adrian, a young bankrupt man left with no option but to move into his paren Read more of this blog post »

“Only one statement about life is universally true: It's going to end badly.”
Evans Light

“I don't believe in ghosts, but they believe in me.”
Evans Light

“When iridescent summer nights fade into sullen autumn gray, as the world marches grimly towards the slow, cold death of winter, something changes.

Dark spirits strengthen, emboldened by lengthening shadows and huddled masses. The sunshine of youth once kept these phantoms at bay, but the doors to my soul creak slowly open with the passing years, the seams of a skeptical mind loosen as the autumn of life approaches.”
Evans Light, Dream of Halloween

Topics Mentioning This Author

“No lights shone beyond the windows of his room. The reflection from the bedside lamp seemed insubstantial as a candle flame; the darkness outside a solid mass, huge and inescapable, that pressed against the panes. His room sat beneath the eaves, where the wind didn't roar but crooned, a sound like mourning doves.”
Elizabeth Hand, Errantry: Strange Stories

“Maybe crazy is what they call anybody who's got magic in them after they're no longer a child.”
Robert R. McCammon, Boy's Life

“Everyone you have ever loved in your life becomes a part of your soul. They never leave. They're always inside you, and you can bring them out whenever you want.”
Nate Kenyon, Sparrow Rock

“You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you.”
Ray Bradbury, Zen in the Art of Writing

“Life is funny like that; just about the time you’re able to fully
appreciate the accommodations, you’re checking out of the

Evans Light I went to lock my front door tonight and there were people wearing bunny masks standing in the dark, reaching for my doorknob. I think I locked it just in time.

Evans Light Dear Goodreads friends,

I wanted to let you know that Wednesday evening, my best friend, brother and favorite author Adam Light was in a car accident that fractured three vertebrae.
He is currently in surgery as I'm writing this.

He's been in good spirits since the accident (probably due in no small part part to pain killers) and has even been kicking around on Goodreads a little as he waited for surgery.

I'm sure he would appreciate any moral support and good vibes you're able to throw his way - just understand it may be a little while before he's able to reply.

Thanks to all of you in advance for your support. Adam enjoys his Goodreads friends so much.

Sincerely,

Evans Light

Evans Light True story, thought I'd share. Mostly true, anyway.

My brother, Adam Light, who lives in a different part of the country than I do, apparently fell asleep on his phone last night. There's this being who lives inside him, see, and the hand of this being must've reached out through Adam's navel and dialed me up on the phone in the wee hours of morn.

"Hello?" I asked, sleepy and confused.

Then I heard that damned belly-button fuzz-muffled voice of the freak who lives inside my brother, shouting to make himself heard.

"Emerge from the emerald sparkling mushroom placenta reborn, my embryo," the voice urged. "God is hiding inside the letter sphere and everything feels yellow but tastes like blue...why DO they call them fingers, anyway? They don't 'fing'. Oh wait, there they go."

I rolled my eyes. Again, really? If this keeps happening, I'm blocking Adam's number.

The belly-button voice shreiked on, knowing his time was short. It might only be a matter of seconds before Adam rolled over to scratch his privates, and then the connection would be lost.

"If I came out of my mommy's tummy, does that mean she ate me? Why did mommy eat me, daddy, why? Daddy, where are you? It's scratchy in here, I've got to get out now!"

I clicked off the phone and sat it back down on my nightstand, exasperated.

Adam - if I punch you in the stomach seemingly out of nowhere the next time we get together, please remember - it's not you I'm mad at.

There WAS one other thing that the voice told me, before I hung up the phone that night; I wasn't going to tell you, but maybe I should.

It said: "Read BELLY BUTTON WINDOW, the great short story by Adam Light in The Corpus Corruptum anthology."

Sheesh. Even nightmare phone calls have commercials these days!
