J. X. Burros is a young, poor self-published author, and he loves every minute of it. He loves creating characters and placing them in positions he could never face himself--along with ones he only wishes he could experience.

Besides writing, he loves to read and devours every young adult novel that catches his eye. He may give out five stars quite freely, but they are all well-deserved. His belief is that you should spend your time enjoying books, not scrutinizing them for mistakes.

In his limited spare time, he loves to eat, although it clearly doesn't show, he loves to watch videos of kittens doing crazy things, and he loves coffee--lots of coffee.

He writes, not for money (although it fuels his ability to write), but for the joy of creatin

Getting Back In

So, I'm sure that you all noticed that I haven't been here. Unfortunately, along with fantasy lives I must live through my novels, I also have to live real life. I know, it's terrible. Has anyone else had to attend nine weddings this year? It's been crazy, and I've been afraid that I'll have to put off Crimson Hunters for a later date. But I won't! I would like to talk to you about just that. It's Read more of this blog post »

Scarlet Spotlight (Red War #1) (Prologue) (Science Fiction & Fantasy)
1 chapters   —   updated May 13, 2015 06:33PM
Description: Still not sure whether you want to read Scarlet Spotlight? Check out the prologue here! “I wanted to go to Nowhere, wherever it didn’t exist. I wanted to cease to have to exist and let the rest of the world deal with what I’d unleashed upon it.” It was simply meant to be a joke. Tom only wanted the world to believe that vampires were real for a day or two, and then come clean. But when real vampires surface and begin to annihilate the human race, Tom can never reveal the truth. Thrust into a new world where danger is under every rock and death looks unbelievably human, Tom, armed with only his father and the smallest group of distant friends, must learn the tools of survival—whether it’s fight or flight—and come to terms with the realization that, sometimes, it’s all your fault.

More of J.X.'s books…
“Part of making a good decision is just making a decision. You can't always sit and weigh the pros and cons. There just isn't time for that. Making a good decision means sticking with your choice and dealing with what comes with it. Being able to deal with the consequences—that's making a good decision.”
J.X. Burros

“She didn't say anything—at least, not with her mouth. Her eyes told me a different story. The only problem was that they each had a thousand tongues talking, each in a language I didn't speak.”

“I'm going to enjoy this.”

Scott Westerfeld, The Secret Hour

“Sarcasm is the last refuge of the imaginatively bankrupt.”
Cassandra Clare, City of Bones

“Sometimes love means letting go when you want to hold on tighter.”
Melissa Marr, Ink Exchange

“No. I believe in free will. I think we make our own decisions and carry out our own actions. And our actions have consequences. The world is what we make it. But I think sometime we can ask God to help us and He will. Sometime I think He looks down and say, 'Wow, look what those idiots are up to now. I guess I better help them along a little'.”
Michael Grant, Hunger

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
