Our Tradition

We are dying in

The comfort of our traditions.

The same way our

Mothers have and

Our fathers and grand Fathers will.

That argument against

Enlightenment that oh

So smug retort against

Compassion as we cradle

Our hypocrisy named Old Shep

In the fleece blanket

That a living being grew

From a body who had the same

Fears as all beings do.

We are stuffing our

Mouths with lies so happily

Praying and giving thanks

For a plate full of death.

My god, I see the Reaper

In the distance and everyone

Consequences

My brother died in the season of the Leo the year before my second child was born.

He had hazel eyes and dark brown hair, wavy like my older son. It curled at the ends, and I never forgave him the year that he shaved his head.

There are days that go by when I do not think of him, and then there are days where I cannot stop. He died of lung cancer because of a choice he made 11 years before he took his final breath.

My son defends his vape to me as though I will accept any feeble excuse for him...

Vegan Alfredo Sauce

One of the things that I truly cherish on my plate is a cream based sauce for pasta. I absolutely adore pasta. Who doesn’t, right?

My pasta is super simple to make and doesn’t require a whole lot of time to perfect.

Ingredients:

1C raw cashews soaked overnight or boiled for 15 minutes on high

½ white onion chopped very fine

2T vegan butter (Earth Balance or Miyokos)

1t Chicken Rub

2t Poultry Seasoning

1T Italian Seasoning

1T Vegetable Bouillon

2T Mushroom Bouillon

1 cube Chick’n Not Chick’n Bo...

I don’t know how Lola is comfortable in this position. Her head is just a noodle attached to her dog body I think. #dogsofig #rescue #rescuedog #rescuedogsofinstagram #nassaucounty #adoptdontshop (at Amelia Island)

SHE

She peeled back my skin and dove within

Slipping through the seams of my armor

She slid beneath the steel and strength

Until the armor was no longer fashioned to protect me but to envelop us

She fit - connected in a way that only a puzzle fashioned by the creator could have made

She Tenderly loved me in ways I’d never needed but suddenly could not live without.

She  Changed me - quietly stripped away the loneliness and left tenderness in its place

You - it’s been you - the storm that never ends, t...

Shifting

The salt spray laps at our shores

The same way it laps at yours,

Miles of land separate us

Yet unite us from bow to stern

Of our beloved state.

Your children are our children

Your loss is our loss.

As the current sends warm waters

Our way ever flowing,

Never changing, we must.

We must shift like our shore moves.

A dune one day and flat land the next.

The salt on our skin is not

The spray of the Atlantic or Gulf blue.

Today, it is our tears,

It is our fears. The relief and -

Overwhelming sadness that it’s ...

Action Requires Attention

Action Requires Attention

This is the first blog post I’m writing on my *new* website/blog. I got up today, the 22nd day of June in 2018 like I do every other day. I slept in a little later than I needed to, and I didn’t have a particular focus of my day. All I have on my agenda is this seemingly never-ending thing called “work”. Work for most people falls within set hours, but for those of us who consider ourselves self-employed or small business owners work can be eve...
