I spent four and a half years in the MIddle East and speak both Arabic and Hebrew, so I got to learn a lot about the area. Even more, when I wrote "SCORPION," the first book in my Scorpion series, I immersed myself in studying Arab culture, history and Islam, discovering that it was much richer and more complex than I knew. In addition, I do extensive research on each book I write - and always discover new things that can help make it more real, nuanced and compelling for the reader. For HOMELAND, I also worked closely with the show, including helping to create portions of the Bible for the show and educating them on certain aspects of the CIA and the Middle East. Fun fact: I gave the lead character, Carrie Mathison, my wife's name, Anne, for her middle name.(less)

That first book focused primarily on Carrie. Many fans had requested that I also tell the stories of some of the other main characters, like Saul. Also, I had met with the showrunners even before the scripts for this past Season 3 were written and knew what they were planning (we coordinated on a regular basis). Not to give too much away, but it was with that in mind that I began to lay out a plot that could encompass key characters, yet still be a compelling thriller.(less)

Exceptional!

A unique superbly told story of a young woman experiencing life and love in her first job in an upscale Manhattan restaurant. Intimate and original.

“If you dance with the devil, sooner or later you dance to the devil’s tune.”
Andrew Kaplan, Blue Madagascar

“Who is the player and who's being played?”
Andrew Kaplan, Saul's Game

“Within the CIA it was widely understood that SAD was the most dangerous assignment in the Agency. Such were the nature of the Top Secret missions they were sent out on that their casualty rate was higher than for any other group of its kind in the world, even though every member of SAD was an experienced, tough-as-nails U.S. Army Delta or Navy SEAL veteran, who underwent further extensive training than even those formidable groups. Once an SAD Special Operations Group team, or SOG, was activated, they were dedicated to complete their mission or die-and more of them had than all the rest of the CIA’s other operatives combined. Scorpion’s initial assignment when he first joined the CIA had been in SAD.”
Andrew Kaplan, Scorpion Deception
