Charlene Newcomb. Char. That’s me.

Welcome to my worlds.

Charlene Newcomb lives, works, and writes in Kansas. She is an academic librarian by trade, a U.S. Navy veteran, and has three grown children. When not working at the library, she is still surrounded by books and trying to fill her head with all things medieval. All three books in the Battle Scars series are B.R.A.G. Medallion honorees; Book II was a finalist and Book III was short-listed in the Chaucer Awards for pre-1750 Historical Fiction & both are recipients of numerous accolades.

Char is a huge Star Wars fan and has contributed short stories to the Expanded Universe featuring an underground freedom fighter, http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Alexan.... She has also published a mainstr

At times I'll turn to my non-fiction stash of research materials. Other times, I'll dig into fiction, sometimes of the medieval period, sometimes SciFi or fantasy. My Kindle is overflowing and I have "real" books on my nightstand, the coffee table, the kitchen table, and on the piano. Books, books, everywhere.(less)

I have just started research on another book that will be related to Battle Scars, but won't be part of the series. It will focus on the Robin Hood tale. I'll be publishing a short story prequel to Men of the Cross, featuring Sir Stephan, in Fall 2018. And I hope to write a couple more short stories. (less)

Research snippets – King John

King John didn’t wait long after agreeing to the provisions of Magna Carta to begin plotting revenge on his rebellious barons. Magna Carta was signed at Runnymede in June 1215, and shortly thereafter, King John “sent letters to all the governors of his castles throughout England, ordering them each and all to furnish their castles…
