Tuesday Tales with Bells On!!
Finding Love and Bigfoot Book 2 of the Critter GettersAhoy Fellow Fathomers and welcome to Tuesday Tales. This week our talented group of writers has the word prompt "bells", apropos for the Christmas season, wouldn't you say? I take you now to the 3rd book in writing progress from Allee Mae's new series, The Critter Getters. The title of this one is, Finding Love in a Black Lagoon.Let's peek in on Owen and Pearls' private conversation...
“So, what were Christmases like at your house?” Pearl kept her gaze locked on the twinkling stars above.
Owen shifted, stretched, and in one motion was lying close enough to graze her arm with his. Neither moved from their place on the blanket, but instead kept their focus on the velvety nighttime sky. “Some years good, some bad, I s’pose like anyone else.”
“Do you really believe everyone has an occasional bad holiday? You gotta be joking.”
“Things happen in life, Pearl. What if someone in the family dies, the first Christmas without them is tough, I can vouch for that. Maybe someone gets very sick, or someone loses their job. There are plenty of reasons a holiday isn’t always a good time for folks.”
“Well, I never had a decent Christmas, ever, even before my mother flaked out and died.”
Owen reached over and tentatively took Pearl’s hand in his own. He rubbed her smooth skin with his thumb. “Most of the time people don’t choose when they die, Pearl.”
“Yea, well, she could have prevented it. But, you know what? She didn’t. She went in guns blazing.”“Guns blazing? I hope you don’t mean literally.” He squeezed her hand tightly.
“That’s exactly what I meant.” Pearl choked the last word out. “I’m sorry. It’s springtime, I don’t know why the heck I brought up Christmas.”
“Maybe because we’ve talked about almost everything else under the sun, Pearl. I don’t think we’ve been tongue tied since that first day we really spent time together. It’s been real nice talking with you.” Owen turned and faced Pearl, yet, she still stared straight up. Owen gently turned her face to his. “You can talk to me about anything, Pearl. I mean anything. Together, we will open boxes we duct taped shut a long time ago. But, sometimes, the only way to get past something is to cut the tape.”
I hope Owen breaks through whatever is holding Pearl back. But now, please visit our main site for other fantastic takes on the word prompt, "bells", Tuesday Tales Blog . Happy Tuesday! I hope you have your shopping done. If not, maybe you want to give a spicy holiday read? Or, use it to relieve that heavy holiday stress?Check out #4 on the Secret Cravings Publishing holiday list! Just Out of My Grasp - How Much is Too Much?
12/05/2013Ahoy Fellow Fathomers, I’ve decided to use my blog not only to writing, music, and other facets of entertainment, but, also to share my journey. I found out on June 19, 2013 the reason for many of my ongoing health problems is because I have systemic lupus, also known as SLE. BRAKE HERE- I visited the University of Colorado, Denver November 13, 2013 for a second opinion. The incredible Dr. Susan Boackle University of Colorado Rheumatology agreed to see me as a new patient. She evaluated all my medical records to date and worked me into her schedule. She took a 2 hour comprehensive history with me, ordered urine tests, x-rays, and also blood tests. The phlebotomist drew 19 vials of blood for all the tests. I had juice and cookies before they let me stand up, they took almost as much blood as a donation for blood drive. I waited almost impatiently for the week to be up and my results. I wanted to know if the medication I was taking was appropriate for what was going on with me- I mean, surely someone can find something better for me and help me feel more like my “old” self.Dr. Boackle called me on a Wednesday night, just as I was checking out at Toys R Us. I remember because the call was just that important. She greeted me and jumped right in, “I have good news and bad news…”Gulp“All your tests are in, including the labs and your blood work is pristine.”Did she really say pristine? As in, no lupus? She pulled a telepathy jedi mind trick. “I really don’t think you have lupus.”WTF?“I believe something is going on with you, but, I really don’t believe it’s lupus. I just don’t know what it is.”My mind keeps racing - But, wait, my ANA tests were elevated, what about all my symptoms, what is wrong with me?She finished the conversation very politely and said she would report her findings to my doctor. She did suggest I stop taking the Plaquenil right away. I had been on double the amount needed for my body weight anyway, so, she suspected medication toxicity could be occurring. So, now, I’m back to square one, feeling not any better than I have in two years and apparently, no closer to an answer. I will follow up with my neurologist and rheumatologist for rounds three and four. HOWEVER, thankfully, my organ systems are working well and it is a huge sigh of relief that it may not be lupus causing my problems. But, something is attacking my immune system, central nervous system, and creating fatigue, muscle aches/pains, headache, stiffness, sores on my scalp, peripheral neuropathy, and an unreasonable morphine itch when I come in contact with water. Give me strength.Thank you for listening, each week I will have a new installment chronicling my journey. Please, please feel free to comment, write, share. I hope to use this forum as a help to all of us, no matter what pain you are experiencing. You may also send stories to me via finlessbook at gmail dot com. I will respect your privacy and maintain your anonymity, if you so desire. Hugs for today …

Tuesday Tales, It's Getting Crazy Wavy Up In Here
Ahoy Fellow Fathomers! This week's Tuesday Tales prompt is the word "wavy". Please see how I use "wavy" in my new WIP YA paranormal romance, Finding Love in a Black Lagoon- Book 3 in the Critter Getter series.
Me and Sasquatch! From Central City, Colorado
A violent shudder rustled the water and the weeds, splashing up from the surface. Fat droplets sprayed outward, hitting Caleb in the face. More determined than ever, Caleb plunged the stick further into the center. “Get out of there and show yourself!” He gritted his teeth and stood his ground.
Suddenly, the water reeds parted and another heron flew out from the center, its wings flapped and it swished the tall, wavy weeds around. Caleb reflexively jumped and dropped the stick. Owen remained still, but, his head jerked slightly backward and cocked to one side. The girls shrieked almost in unison.
“It was a dang bird nest in there!” Kalista breathed a sigh of relief, and almost collapsed into laughter.
Caleb dropped his head backward. “I can’t stinking believe it, a darn bird.”
“I didn’t think we’d have it that easy, that some water creature would show up and crawl to us in surrender.” Owen looked across the lake and watched the angry bird fly away. “I say we hike around and see what else we can find. This mud might be a good clue, especially if we don’t see it anywhere else.”
They walked for a few hours, investigating the many inlets, twists, and turns of the lake shore. They saw wood ducks, frogs, and turtles. However, the heavily treed, mossy surroundings made it difficult to really get a good view of the lake itself. “That’s why it’s called the invisible lake,” Caleb offered during one short rest break. “From the research I’ve done, we really need to get in a boat out there for a proper view.”
“Yea, but, these bald cypress trees are something else.” Owen admired a tall tree draped with hit and miss mantles of Spanish moss. “Really adds the Scooby Doo to this whole investigation.”

Excerpt:
Quiet once again encompassed his secluded world. Several minutes went by, convincing Bigfoot the juvenile, nor the hassling female Bigfoot, would come searching for him. At least not yet. Curling onto the leaves, he cuddled unfamiliarity—what he did not know was a glove. He fell asleep under the hazy autumn sun—his human’s face floating in and out of his consciousness. * * * *The girls arrived on a Friday afternoon, a day earlier than the scheduled group of all men campers for the Saturday night excursion. Pulling into their customary parking spot next to Caleb and Owen’s day to day vehicles, Kalista hesitated before turning off the car engine. She turned up the heater, pointed the vent toward her face and explained to Leandra, “Just trying to get one last burst of heat before I step out into this outdoor refrigerator.” The deceptively sunny day held a strong chill in the air. “It’s going to be downright frosty in the camp tent tonight, that’s for sure. But, I’m not going to cuddle too closely to you that would be too weird.” Leandra raised an eyebrow in Kalista’s direction. “You’re so mean, so-called best friend. You wouldn’t keep me warm?” Kalista turned off the ignition, pleasant sarcasm dripping from her words. “Sorry, Kal, we are tough Okies now. Better learn to suck it up.” Leandra opened her car door and almost bounced from the car. Standing next to the car, Leandra called toward the guys, zipping her coat shut and adjusting her fleece hat. “Brr, who ordered this air conditioning in November?” “It was not me, although this is perfect deer hunting weather,” Owen called from behind the hay trailer. “I think I’ll leave the shotguns to you guys.” “I’ve got my thermals, two pair in fact. Don’t ya’ll Okies call these long johns?” Kalista held up two packages containing light, thin base clothing to wear under her jeans and turtleneck shirt. “I suppose we do, but then, it makes me think of donuts and I get hungry.” Caleb sheepishly grinned, laughing at his own joke. “Long Johns are donuts, Kal. Now, I want one.” Leandra finished getting her bag out of the backseat of the car, licking her lips in the process. “Mmm, good stuff.” “I’ll make you some cowboy donuts when we get up to the campsite. Those are almost as good. Sprinkle on some powdered sugar and they are good eatin’.” Owen chivalrously took Leandra’s bag and loaded into the back of the truck. “I’ll take your word for it, Owen. After all this time, you haven’t steered us wrong yet.” Kalista handed her bag to his outstretched hand before giving him a tight hug. “It’s good to be here again.” “It’s great to see you too.” Caleb stepped forward for his own hug from Kalista, although they lingered slightly longer than her embrace with Owen. Reluctantly pulling away from Caleb, Kalista wrinkled her forehead and briefly pursed her lips. “Hey, by the way, I lost one of my ski gloves the last time we came up here. I guess it fell out of my pack. Did either of you find one?” “No, can’t say we did, but we can take the same trails, maybe we will locate it. Haven’t had much rain or wind storms since your last trip, so unless some animal took off with it, we might have some luck.” Owen rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “Maybe it was Bigfoot? He just took off with my glove as a human souvenir.” Kalista laughed, shaking her head. “Would you blame him? He probably needed it. It’s been getting mighty cold at night.” Caleb impulsively reached out to take Kalista’s hand. “Besides, who wouldn’t want a token souvenir from a pretty girl?” “Young love…isn’t that the sweetest thing, Owen?” Leandra fluttered her eyelashes toward the hesitant couple.
Owen tilted his head looking at Caleb and Kalista still holding hands. “Yes, as a matter of fact, it is. But, that’s enough of this mushy stuff. It’s time to get to the campsite.”

Pearl envisioned the group of bullies getting closer before she heard their hideous voices yelling threats of torment and maniacal laughter. The Lord of the Flies mentality permeated the group of reckless kids and today, their intensity scared her. Pearl thought how their eyes seemed evil, almost inhuman, especially the leader- the iris wasn’t even a normal color. She focused on the sticky mud at the bottom of the river and imagined her rescuer. Pearl deepened her breathing, almost to a yogic state and forced almost every ounce of breath from her lungs, and her well timed nervous system calmed her.
