Donna writes thrillers for kids and grownups with the Joshua and the Lightning Road series and the Element Trilogy. Visit her at www.donnagalanti.com and www.ElementTrilogy.com. Donna attended an English school housed in a magical castle, where her wild imagination was held back only by her itchy uniform (bowler hat and tie included!). There she wrote her first fantasy about Dodo birds, wizards, and a flying ship (and has been writing fantasy ever since). She also lived in Hawaii where she served as a U.S. Navy photographer. She now lives with her family and two crazy cats in an old farmhouse and dreams of returning one day to a castle.

Other books close to my heart are The Island of the Blue Dolphins and White Fang. And I couldn’t forget My Side of The Mountain. I grew up as an only child in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains of New York (like Sam Gribley in that book) and roamed the woods for adventure. We lived in a 200-year old farmhouse on acres of apple trees and falling-down barns. It was a child’s world to explore. So you can understand how I desperately wanted to be Sam Gribley living on a mountain in a tree with a pet falcon! (less)

This was the first autumn in years I didn't cook my pumpkins. And without pumpkins there's no fresh pumpkin pie. This year there would be no orange pulp to cook, puree, and squeeze through cheese cloth. No dough rolled out from my mother's worn, wooden rolling pin. No flour dotted pages to turn on the warped old cook book (the one I didn't need anymore as I knew the recipe by hear...
