Adrian Deans is a lawyer, journalist and novelist. He has been writing seriously for 25 years and in that time has seen his darkly comic speculative fiction stories gradually morph into darkly comic crime - and those were the stories finally accepted for publication. His novels, Mr Cleansheets (Vulgar Press, 2010) and Straight Jacket (High Horse, 2013) received some critical acclaim and Straight Jacket was optioned by Ealing Studios in the UK. The Fighting Man is his debut historical novel but is exactly the sort of historical novel you might expect from a crime novelist, filled as it is with intrigue and complex characters of hidden purpose.

And who the hell is doing anything about it?

Who can do anything about it?

Armed only with a triennial vote, the little people cower in the shadows as the titans of in...

"What a read! It's not often a book lives up to the hype on the cover, and Straight Jacket certainly didn't disappoint. From the beginning right through to the last page this had me hooked.

I was a late comer to The Smiths although now they’re one of my favourite bands. Accordingly, I picked up this book with some alacrity and breezed through it in two days.

" Well, I have mapped it out and started writing. I expect it well get up eventually, but I still work full time to support my writing habit. "
Adrian Deans and 1 other person liked David's review of The Fighting Man:
The Fighting Man by Adrian Deans
"According to the intro, this is the first historical novel by this author. If that is true, he set the bar pretty high. The book follows the story of Brand. He is burned out of his home at a young age and betrayed by his uncle. Then he is "outlawe..." Read more of this review »

This book is definitely a 5 star for concept, but it was close to a 2 star for execution. So many voices were exactly the same - impossible to distinguish them from each other - which gets tedious in such a multi - first person POV novel. It was a ...more
