As a child, Lisa "TJ" Hapney grew up in the rolling hills of West Virginia, which led to her interest in the history of the area as well as the theme for her first book. Although she has long since moved away, she carries an ongoing fondness for its people and places and still visits friends and family there regularly. The first draft of A Lack of Civility was written over 20 years ago after having read a box of her grandmother's romance novels and was the first book Ms. Hapney produced.

In high school Ms. Hapney moved to Florida, where she resides today and is currently working on a science fiction book.
