This time, getting past Security wouldn't be easy, since there would be visa restrictions and religious requirements and a very high wall to the South. So I'd have to get myself smuggled in. Once in, I'd find myself in familiar territory facing a familiar scene: watching the Queen of Hearts serially firing members of her cabinet. And there'd be questions to resolve: should one wake the Dormouse up, and what purpose would that serve? Does the Mad Hatter mean what he says? Does the March Hare eat his own words? In the end, Wonderland might seem so much like real life that it might be best never to leave at all. (less)

Everything we know about them has been invented, because they themselves wrote us no letters, penned no memoirs, did not even bother to call, did not take time to even tweet. Carving 140 characters on a rock, how long could that have taken, for heaven's sake? When I first thought about it, my impulse was to forget about them completely. But now they have become my favorites; perhaps even, my obsession. Shouldn't they be yours?
