501 deaths. "People don't think it be like it is, but it do"
As our SFB POTUS keeps yelling in all caps on Twitter and looking at the stock market like it's the only indicator that matters, we just passed 500 deaths. It's going to get worse as the GOP really does act like a death cult that knows nothing about running a country.
Like previous epidemics, it's quite possible that this epidemic will run along red and blue state lines where blue states actually do something to stop it while red states act like idiots while also buying whatever grifter's cure the POTUS and others like him sell. I wish it weren't so, but it do.

Plague Books?
I've been looking for Plague Books and will be reading DeFoe pretty soon. That being said, I was wondering what everyone else had read and liked?
Year of Wonders by Brooks is a great one. I'd rate it over Camus' Plague novel. Which I found dry and not as insightful as most people claimed.
But, tell you the truth, I haven't read enough about plagues or pandemics or other such diseases. What a flaw. I'll be looking to hear about the good ones from everyone here.

De Foe Plague Year
A good start (read it all here):
It was about the beginning of September, 1664, that I, among the rest of my neighbours, heard in ordinary discourse that the plague was returned again in Holland; for it had been very violent there, and particularly at Amsterdam and Rotterdam, in the year 1663, whither, they say, it was brought, some said from Italy, others from the Levant, among some goods which were brought home by their Turkey fleet; others said it was brought from Candia; others from Cyprus. It mattered not from whence it came; but all agreed it was come into Holland again.
We had no such thing as printed newspapers in those days to spread rumours and reports of things, and to improve them by the invention of men, as I have lived to see practised since. But such things as these were gathered from the letters of merchants and others who corresponded abroad, and from them was handed about by word of mouth only; so that things did not spread instantly over the whole nation, as they do now. But it seems that the Government had a true account of it, and several councils were held about ways to prevent its coming over; but all was kept very private. Hence it was that this rumour died off again, and people began to forget it as a thing we were very little concerned in, and that we hoped was not true; till the latter end of November or the beginning of December 1664 when two men, said to be Frenchmen, died of the plague in Long Acre, or rather at the upper end of Drury Lane. The family they were in endeavoured to conceal it as much as possible, but as it had gotten some vent in the discourse of the neighbourhood, the Secretaries of State got knowledge of it; and concerning themselves to inquire about it, in order to be certain of the truth, two physicians and a surgeon were ordered to go to the house and make inspection. This they did; and finding evident tokens of the sickness upon both the bodies that were dead, they gave their opinions publicly that they died of the plague. Whereupon it was given in to the parish clerk, and he also returned them to the Hall; and it was printed in the weekly bill of mortality in the usual manner, thus—
Plague, 2. Parishes infected, 1.

106 deaths
The US has passed the 100 deaths mark. The growth is still exponential. One hopes that the the social distancing and isolation will work.

The Pivot
I will give it to the right. They're not only pivoting away from calling this just a bad flu (while screaming foreign/Chinese virus) but doing it better than the Democrats. I will always be amazed at that. But such is the game and the MSM's complicity in it. Trump calling for a 850B stimulus. More than the GOP was ever willing to give Obama during 2008 (which was much worse). That seems to tell me that the deficit will only matter if a Democrat comes into the White House. Good times.

C19 updates
Here's the count looking at 63 dead for the US. The map is going cray cray.
The streets out here in Seattle are pretty empty. Downtown, normally filled with shoppers was now sparse with only a handful of people shopping and even more shops closed for the C19 virus. Hospitals are already getting to capacity and I assume things will not be getting better any time soon. Damn, here we come.

It's the Apocalypse, Everyone Relax. covid-19
Toilet paper off the shelves. But the cafes are packed. Better get your priorities crooked. This Covid 19 Coming straight at BoomersBut Boomer president not worried at all. Only sees the world in stock market falls. Yet every fall someone else's fault. Every rise, the carnival barker POTUS cheers. I hope you wash your hands. I doNot for twenty fucking seconds though. Who washes for that long? Okay I'm singing songs now. Ain't nuthin buta G-thang Since the chorus and a couple lines. That's about twenty seconds. So now we wait.Calm before the storm. Gotta make a run to the grocery. Get those canned goodies. Prolly gone though. Streets turning into semi-ghost towns, but not completely Wuhan levels just yet.The market gods have turned most hospitals into almost completely at capacity. The virus will be another market force. People at the bottom will get it worse. Those up top bound to profit. I do wonder though. Will this all fall apart?Everything stretched to its breaking point. Now the virus as straw. In the form of a steel I-beam.Gotta stop touching my face. But my eyes itch the moment I think that. Cruel thing these RNA viruses. But the SFB POTUS is gonna make it worse. 57 dead so far in the US. Probably gonna get much much higher than that. I've never seen such calls for unity. But we're no longer geared towards that. Every man for themselves. For their toilet rolls. The streets really are empty. I guess I was hoping to write in the cafe. But that was full.Get your priorities crooked. The storm has just begun. Leaves turning to the sky. And so it goes.

the SFB POTUS & Corona
Interesting to see some of the reactions to the POTUS and Corona virus. Many people seem to think that his carnival barking is some sort of immunity or has some sort of power that will allow him to get away with being incompetent. Of course, I don't expect any people on the right to have their minds changed, but to see people who should have some sense think this will be all right and that it's no big deal is a little annoying. Of course, we will see, but there's no telling if it will get much worse and, furthermore, whether it will destroy much of our economy.

ME a Mess
Well our SFB POTUS is looking to hide information about the coming pandemic. But not to worry because other leaders around the world are trying to out-dumb him. I'm talking about Erdogan in Turkey. He already is illegally in Syria but is looking to push Syria not to take over Idlib. That being said, he does have a point about the refugees. But in case the Europeans didn't understand, he's sending a few refugees their way. If he does open the gates that means a more reactionary Europe, and who knows what that means for the world. It certainly won't be stability.
All this escalation has been pretty bad form from everyone, but as you can see there are few cool heads in the room. I'm still surprised that Russia would hit Turkish troops, but now we have to wonder what's going to happen next. Everyone is an authoritarian. And even is some are more calculating than others there's some level of brinkmanship (or school yard bully games) that means they can't back down too much. Let's see what happens next. I'm guessing a 40% of a pretty damaging shooting war. Europe, meanwhile won't be able to handle the refugees or maybe they ahve to help Turkey in Idlib. Or maybe a coup in Turkey? Let's see.

Coronavirus
Has the market fully taken into account the virus? Some say it's going to be a 1T loss. For the entire world that's actually not bad. And yet we see, for a month now, major cities in China completely shutdown. Surely that will make a dent, right? Well, we'll have to see, unfortunately, it could mean a recession. Question is, will it be easy to bounce back from such a recession? I don't know, tell you the truth.
