Luther and the Current Swamp.

500 years ago the Pope tried to have Luther take back what he had accused the church of becoming back in 1517. At that point the Church in Rome was beyond corrupt and only lived to by the bible of CREAM. We have that Bible up and running in terms of the right and Trumpistas as they steal more and more from the treasury. But no main Luther moment. Not that I know of. We'll see.

Griots

So a friend of mine has a brilliant show over at the MET about the Sahel. A place with a long history, it is now in dire straits. But check out the beauty for now. This piece is about Griots and their storytelling ways. As with all stories (even those that make it to text, though they tend to be a little less imaginative) there a millions of versions out there (as there should be). This one is the Sunjata Epic.

Shooting in CHOP

Welp, here we are. Lots of misinformation coming out of that area (especially given that the right loves to troll and try to make it seem lawless), so I'll wait until  we hear some good reporting. Not saying that such a movement can't be hijacked (making sure it remains about BLM and not about random people taking it over) but the right always has and will lie (remember I used to be on that side, so I know). So better get your facts straight. All the talk there seems to be a little over blown, but for people who live there and making complaints about noise, that's something to be wary of. Sexual assault and the shooting also need to be looked into, but, as always, the RW (which before all this was angry with the police for not disappearing homeless people and other "undesirables" are now attributing every negative thing to the lack of police.

CHAZ and the end of the Republic.

So there I was, in the middle of the Cap Hill Autonomous Zone, that anarchic hellhole and... well yeah, don't believe the media. It was chill and beautiful. Now to listen to the media (especially on the right, but in many places, because friends and family were texting to ask if everything was all right) you'd think it was some lawless crazy place. It wasn't. Sure I can't say everything everywhere there is legal, but the real question is: how is it compared to other places? The biggest thing is that the roads in the area are blocked on (but locals can get through), to which I ask: can we have more roads blocked just about everywhere? Even my neighborhood? Please?

What are the Cops Doing?

Of course, there's the video on twitter of a MAGAt trying to shoot peaceful protestors with a bow and arrow, then getting his. Worth a look for a chuckle. Of course after he tries to claim he was accosted, unprovoked, of course, by two African Americans. So fuck him doubly so.
And fuck this semi truck driver trying to kill protestors with his truck. Of course, the MAGAts in that thread are all about straight murder, not a surprise. Fuck them. 
Finally, the idiot in chief, Trump, after goading protesters with his 60s southern segregationist politician line of "when the looting starts, the shooting starts" then claimed vicious dogs" were waiting for protestors, is only trying to fan the flames of all this. What a dotard. So much of this is laid at his feet and at the feet of his supporters.

About that MNNG

Well seeing this doesn't inspire me with hope. Nor do these. Anyhow, since Trump has now tried to blame antifa for all violence happening, I think the projection rule is in order, so I'm guessing most of the damage is being done by right winger groups. Of course, it's most likely a mix (and provocative cops as a part of it), but we'll see if some truth comes out of any of this.

A couple Covid randomizes thoughts.

Be safe out there. Tough times, and here in Seattle police cars were burning while a curfew was set to 5pm. Everyone off the streets. Some flashbangs were going off and just a few moments ago I heard a shot. 
That being said, I am also perusing the USPS stamp collection and I'm going to have to buy a whole bunch of these. Just like more time on the internets has made me appreciate chess variants like king of the Hill, finding all these different stamps for sale is something like a celebration. 
Now back to reading about the riots and agent provocateurs. Also, if Trump and Barr scream antifa, the smart money is on it not being that. But expect the right to be screaming that for the next few months. It's on honest people to make sure their lies don't get out of hand.

Riots on the Streets

So it looks like there are riots on the streets of Minneapolis. Never forget that though there is reason  (a death sentence for using counterfeit money is something else) for anger among many, that agent provocateurs are still a thing. Even in these riots (however legit they are, and yes I'm doubting that). Here in Seattle I witness an entirely peaceful protest and somehow, the police decided to throw flash bangs in the middle of the crowd. I wondered why. Apparently, some people next to the police sprayed silly string on them. This was only a few of them, mind you, and next to the police. For that, the police launched a flashbang into the middle of the crowd. Shocking.
So keep that in mind. btw, I'm pretty impressed that even the likes of Rush Limbaugh are saying this death is shocking. Did I wake up in bizzaro  world?

Biblical Porportions? No

I keep hearing famine or some disaster of "Biblical Proportions." So we probably are going to face some rough times ahead as a human race. But Biblical Proportions means that of a Bronx Age Tribe. Which means "Cities" the size of villages today or nations the size of larger towns today being torn up. It's not that large of a number. We'll be facing and have faced much worse than that.

Sometimes people use WWII as a measurement. That's a little more valid. Let's see.
