Merry Christmas

Merry_Christmas_1Merry Christmas to all, I hope you day is filled with family, fun and happiness. Christmas has always been among my favorite holidays and not just for the presents, though those are very cool, I love the feeling of giving and family this holiday brings. It seems like the one time of year where everyone sets aside bad habits or grudges and tries their very best to be, their very best.

That crinkle of wrapping paper as it is torn asunder by excited giggling children is something that can’t be du...

Winter, oh how I love you.

Winter is here! With the winter solstice upon us we now kick off one of my favorite times of year. I must admit I enjoy all the seasons for one reason or another. It is why I like living in an area that experiences all of them in equal measure. My time spent living in Southern California felt as though I was experiencing another planet. To see people walking around in shorts at Christmas time seemed unnatural.

I’ve always had an affinity for winter, perhaps it is because I am a winter baby or...

A Very Doorknob Society Christmas

Merry-Christmas-Photos-9

Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays, spending time with family, decorating, food, presents. It has everything you need to have a good time. So it was always a natural fit for the Doorknob Society to have Christmas tales to tell. The characters of the Doorknob Society Saga are one large extended family and of course they want to spend time with one another during the holidays.

So starting with The Cape Beanery Chronicles, that years story was set during the saga and is one of...

Who should be the Doctor Strange Villain?

With the news of Doctor Strange being cast I had to make some kind of comment, but me being a bit of an obsessive geek I can’t leave it at that. Why not discuss who is going to be the movies villain? I know this isn’t my usual post but I wanted to comment on it as Doctor Strange has been one of my inspirations for years. To hear that a movie is finally being made about him is a little bit like geek heaven.

It is no coincidence that the father in The Doorknob Society is a magician and has a fu...

Paranormal YA vs Science Fiction YA

Paranormal YA and science fiction YA have always sat side by side in the Doorknob Society Saga, but I’ve had a few people ask me if the books are one or the other. So I thought I would take a moment and share my thoughts with all of you.

Paranormal YA, MJ Fletcher, The Grimm Chronicles, A Conclave of Shadows

When someone mentions paranormal ya I tend to think of vampires, werewolves or magic. All of which are extremely fun and things I thoroughly enjoy. While science fiction YA to me is more about spaceships and aliens. For me the Doorknob Society has always rathe...

Happy Thanksgiving

thanksgiving-cornucopia

The smell of turkey cooking mingled with the sounds of my grandmother and mom arguing over how to best make dinner are some of my fondest memories of Thanksgiving. Plates of holiday cookies and cakes stacked beside deviled eggs, stuffed mushrooms, cheese platters and pimento spread ( a secret old family recipe) still make my mouth water. Eventually my dad would turn on the game and we would be greeted to him shouting at the television for several hours.

But the most important thing was the fea...

Christmas Cheer and a New Novella

Christmas is nearly upon us! That can mean only one thing for fans of the Doorknob Society Saga, the annual Christmas story. I started this out rather simply with a Christmas tale in The Cape Beanery Chronicles and followed it up last year with the short story,A Clockwork Christmas. Now this year I am debuting the novella, A Candlestick Christmas.

With Christmas cheer in the air, Chloe Masters is on a new case and this time she is working alone. As she keeps her partner James Nightshade in the...

A Steampunk Detective and his Cowgirl Sidekick

A Steampunk detective and his cowgirl sidekick, that is the tag line I used when a friend asked me to describe my new series of Steampunk mystery novellas. Though it could as easily be Cowgirl and her steampunk detective sidekick. The story of Elizabeth James and Abraham Tiberius Bigelow has been rattling around in my brain for several years now, long before I wrote the Doorknob Society. I’ve kept coming back to it and tinkering here and there and now I’ve finally found the right mix that I wa...
