Keeping me Honest

Hey guys

It’s been a while and I am trying hard to catch up with things that I’ve totally let slide for the first half of 2015. I’ve managed to not hit all my goals so far (have hit some but meh!). In order to help myself keep moving forward and to help me (and anyone else out there that wants/needs motivation) I am going to state my daily goals or weekly goals depending on how I feel or of course what you want – if you post a question on where I am at I will answer :)

So for today:

Today’s to do list

Write some Time & Fate (Kali 3) – 3k minimum
Prep print layout for BC1 – yes I know this is delayed but was unavoidable.
Proof 4 ch of #Audiobook for #SkinDeep

Will report back with achievements – you guys keep me honest :)

UPDATED – 3pm

Still no writing done :( Total fail
Layout complete awaiting final check and upload
2 chapters audio-proofing done – I might just meet that goal. Completed 3 ch

So some progress. But goals not met to satisfaction. Weekend I’m investigating graphic novels and having family time.

Starting a new journey

Every novel I write feels like a totally different expreience. Right now, I am busy working on Time & Fate and as usual I’m trying to understand the story as a whole. I never know everything when I start a novel, usually just snippets of scenes and sentences very much like what one would expect from a movie trailer. And they are also probably some of the best bits.

I almost always have the first scene in mind when I start writing – and to be honest I don’t think I’ve ever written a novel when I didn’t start with the scene that first popped into my mine. Somehow that scene acts like a tap, releasing the rest of the scenes whih unfold one after the other.

I never used to be much of a planner but I have found that creating at least a vague outline helps to keep the story going. I love being able to sit down and write a scene that just seems to come from nowhere. And then to end the days work scarcely able to stop because I’m dying to know what’s going to happen next.

Maya’s going on an adventure in this episode of the Hand of Kali tale, so I’m intrigued to see where the story goes.

Hunting keep Maya busy tracking killer demons in Europe, a new god comes into play, Kali teaches Maya a new power, and someone reveals their true nature… So looking forward to diving in :)

A to Z Challenge – S is for Sigrun

So today is the letter S which stands for Sigrun

The Valkyrie Sigrun – SPOILER

In Dead Radiance, Bryn is taken to Asgard by the Valkyrie Sigrun, a kind hearted, quiet, yet passionately loyal woman who has served Odin for centuries. She acts as Bryn’s guide to life in Asgard, while in turn learning more about the strange Midgardian ways.

She also happens to be the love interest of one of the hotter dudes in the series- but that’s another spoiler right?

A to Z Challenge – R is for Ragnarok

As part of the A to Z Challenge for the month of April. I’m posting about my Valkyrie world. I will try to present elements of the world without being too spoilerific ;)

So today is the letter R which stands for Ragnarok

Ragnarok

In Norse mythology, Ragnarok is the end of days, a battle that is held on the Vigrid Plains in Jotunnheim, one in which many of the Aesir gods are killed, Odin in particular. After Ragnarok, a new world will begin, one with a new set of gods.

*SPOILER ALERT*

I have used the concept in the Valkyrie series pretty much unchanged except for the Vigrid Plains. Early on Bryn dreams of the plains, drenched in blood, and through the series she comes to believe that she will someday fight on the battlefield along with the gods, and maybe even die there.

A to Z Challenge – Q is for Queen

As part of the A to Z Challenge for the month of April. I’m posting about my Valkyrie world. I will try to present elements of the world without being too spoilerific ;)

So today is the letter Q which stands for Queen

Queen Frigga

Within Norse mythology there are various queens but none more popular than Frigga hereself. Wif of the All-Father, she is goddess of weather and crops. Some of her abilities change with the telling but she’s always been seen as inherently good.

In the Valkyrie series, she takes Bryn under her wing, and acts as guide and mentor. She is also a subtle women’s rights activist.

*SPOILERS*

Queen Huld

In Dead Embers ( bk 2) Huld is a fictitious evil wife of the King of Swartelfheim, the land of the Dwarfs. Bryns job is to enter the palace and bring back the blood goblet, fashioned by the Queen with the blood of her husband whom she murdered. Bryn enters the palace with Mika, for protection, but betrayal hits her and she nevers sees it coming.

Tyra Queen Mother of the Nidhogg

In Dead Embers (bk 1) Bryn meets Steinns mother, the fictitious Queen Mother of the Nidhogg. Her initial response to Bryn is cold but when Bryn is able to save her grandaughter Suri from death, Tyra becomes her benefactor, giving her an amber ball – a dragon’s eye, and instructing Bryn to use it to call on her if she should ever need help.

A to Z Challenge – P is for Portal

As part of the A to Z Challenge for the month of April. I’m posting about my Valkyrie world. I will try to present elements of the world without being too spoilerific ;)

So today is the letter P which stands for Portal

Bifrost

In Norse mythology the Bifrost is the Bridge of the Gods, which is guarded by the god Heimdall. It’s been depicted through the ages in various forms with rainbows and flashes of lighning.

In the Valkyrie series its a system of invisible ‘wormholes’ that take people form one place to another, with the bridge touching down in countries all over the worlds. Sometimes their location is not convenient, or is no longer uasable due to changes in the modern environemt due to construction.

Sometimes the bridge doesn’t touch down anywhere near the intended destination which means miles of walking or alternative travel arrangements.

*SPOILER ALERT*

Later in the series, a character is able to write a program that can track the movements of people on the Bifrost itself.

Also, unlike the rest of the users of the Bridge, the gods can go anywhere, opening up doors in the system at whatever their destination may be.
