Specifically, I had never considered writing seriously until my college days, when I very reluctantly handed in a paper to my English professor. After reading it, she said, "You may not know this now, but you will be a writer." Ironically, at the time, the first simmerings of the story that would eventually become Bid the Gods Arise were percolating in my brain. I had been tossing ideas back and forth with my cousin (mostly by writing letters when I was supposed to be doing homework), and I decided that we should try to make a book out of it. Of course, little did I realize how big the scope of the project would become, or that it would be possible to actually publish such a thing. At the time, I had assumed that only the two of us would ever enjoy reading it. One of our major goals was to take some ideas that we thought had merit, but whose onscreen or in-print execution was somewhat lacking, and give them new life in a world of our own. And no, I don't plan to reveal all the sources of our "inspiration." All good authors steal, but the smart ones file off the serial numbers. (less)

Most of the cultures have strong real-life parallels, though I prefer historical inspiration rather than modern day whenever possible in order to allow the reader to reflect on applicability rather than ignite emotions steeped in current events. The more fantastic elements tend to be inspired by myth and fairy tale; I consider the Wells of the Worlds saga to be an apocalyptic fairy tale. I have of course drawn a little bit here from life, literature, and movies I have watched. (less)

Audacious was the word used by editor/author Rick Marshall to describe J.C. Lamont's vision for The Chronicles of Time. To this day, that still strikes me as the most apropos term.

For those who have not been introduced to these incredible novels, allow me to lay the groundwork: The concept was to show the entire history of time, from Creation to the New Jerusalem, through the eyes of Michael t Read more of this blog post »

Merry Christmas to you! I hope to have the book out next year! I will very much be looking forward to your thoughts on it when I finally get it out!

I must have missed this ... sorry about that. Things are going pretty well. You will be glad to know that although the sequel is much-delayed, it is well underway. How are things with you?

Robert Mullin Cheryl wrote: "Hi Robert! Thanks for the friend request -- looking forward to getting to know you and your books. Have a great week!

Likewise, Cheryl! I recognized your book from SpeculativeFaith, and thought it would be worth connecting.

Blessings,

Robert Mullin Yomi wrote: "Hi, Robert!
I am wondering will there be a sequel of Bid the Gods Arise (The Wells of the Worlds, #1)?"

Yes, there is. In fact, I am working on it now, and hope to have it finished by the end of the year. The only thing holding me back is the graphic novel adaptation of BTGA, but that won't take me long to script, and then it's full-steam ahead into the sequel again. Are you on Facebook? You can keep updated at www.facebook.com/bidthegodsarise

Meanwhile, thanks for being one of my biggest fans. It does my heart good to see the book added to so many great lists. Spread the word!

I hadn't thought of that. I've actually gone through a lot of revisions to the timeline since sending it to you. I'm not entirely sure how I would go about doing an epub version, or if that would even technically be legal. I'll have to talk to the prospective hosts about that, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Robert Mullin Derrick wrote: "thanks for the add. And not a lot of people like both SW AND Lawhead :)"

Very true. But those that do are men after my own heart. :)
