Lichen Craig wrote non-fiction professionally for over twenty-five years before the fire overtook her to write a first novel. Encouraged by the enthusiasm of test readers despite the controversial subject matter, she took the plunge into publication of "Gentlemen's Game". To answer though, on days when I am having trouble getting it to flow, I write anyway. There are many exercises you can do to kick your brain into gear. Also, it's helpful to have two or three projects going at once, and switching between them. (less)
