SNEAK PEAK SUNDAY: Lorenz Font

Coming soon from Lorenz Font
The Prodian Journey First book of Path of the Guardian Series
A young adult novel

Shannon drew the curtain and I found myself trapped in the room, with only Madame Elizabeth as my company for the next God knew how long. I glanced at the woman sitting behind a round table covered with a velvet cloth. A stack of harmless looking cards lay in front of her. “Hello, young man,” she greeted with an elaborate flair of her hand. “Have a seat.”I retuned her greeting with a tight smile then, with great reluctance, sank into the chair opposite her. To begin with, I had no idea what the heck this tarot and psychic crap was all about, except the possibility of predicting one’s luck or discovering what might happen in the future. Remaining silent, I rested my clammy palms on my thighs.“So, what are you looking to see? Love, adventure . . . perhaps happiness?” she queried, spreading the colorful cards across the table in a single sweep. The cards fanned across the surface like fallen dominoes. In perfect sync.“I do—don’t know,” I stammered. A jerk shot through my tight shoulders before I could stop it. Madame Elizabeth’s gaze met mine for a brief moment. Although her eyes were hidden underneath red-rimmed glasses, it was obvious she saw my discomfort, and it put me on the defensive. The woman was stunning in a disturbing way. It felt like she could see right through me, as if she knew my secrets, and that in itself was disconcerting. I studied her while she perused the cards. Her hair was tied in a loose bun on top of her head and she wore a magician type tunic which reminded me of mystical characters. I had the urge to roll my eyes when she began playing the part, momentarily closing her eyes and breathing deep. Hands splayed on the cards, she caressed each one before she finally collected the stack. Shuffling the cards once, she then laid a few back down on the table with quick and precise movements. With utmost concentration, she studied them, choosing

Forbidden Awakenings (Awakening Series, Book One) by Lisa Bilbrey
Romance/Erotica

Excerpt:

“Oy, not yet!” Callum laughed, pulling them apart. “Food first, sex second.”“Assuming there is sex later.” Elle smirked as she stood up. The wounded expressions on Derek and Callum’s faces had her chortling. “Wow, you two are so cute when you’re bubble has been busted.”“I didn’t mean to just assume that we’d be having sex,” Callum said, sounding flustered. Elle walked over to him, placed her hand on his chest, and leaned up on her toes so that her lips were just outside of his ear. “Never said there wouldn’t be any, either,” Elle cooed, causing him take a deep breath. “But I’m starving. So no food, no sex.”

REVIEW: Soldier On by Sydney Logan

Release Date: June 20Genres: Romance/Military/New Adult   Will his call of duty break both their hearts? Losing her father in Desert Storm has left Stephanie James with a bitter soul when it comes to the military. As a college senior juggling a full course load, Steph's only goal is to graduate with honors at the end of the semester. She’s focused, determined, and a firm believer in all work and no play. Then she meets Brandon Walker at a New Year’s Eve costume party. Despite his disguise, Steph finds herself attracted to the camouflaged soldier who curls her toes with a scorching midnight kiss.

Brandon is an engineering major and ROTC student from the hills of Kentucky. Growing up as the son of a major general has given Brandon firsthand knowledge of the struggles military families sometimes face. Now that his father’s memory is fading, Brandon is even more determined to make his dad proud and graduate as an officer in the United States Army. Then he meets Stephanie, and suddenly, his focus is less on his military service and more on the pretty brunette who has stolen his heart. When he becomes aware of Steph’s resentment toward the military, he worries their relationship is doomed. When faced with the realization that she's fallen in love with a soldier, can Steph’s wounds from the past be healed with love in her present . . . and in her future?

 My Review
When I sat down to read Soldier On by Sydney Logan, I knew that I was in for a good read. I've read all of her books, and love her writing style, but this one was different. I found myself falling in love with Brandon and Stephanie. Both of them were so endearing and real, focused and committed to their futures, but they were scared. And their feelings leapt off the pages.
Stephanie's fears, her feelings toward the military were complete understandable, given her circumstances. Unlike so many characters, I never found myself annoyed with her. She loved Brandon, but she was afraid. Life with a soldier isn't something that should be taken without great thought. Her relationship with her mother reminded me of the relationship I have with my own mother, their closeness was touching and real. Brandon's father really touched me, and I won't spoil it by telling you too many details, but his life, the way he was losing himself to a cruel and harsh world was breathtakingly written. The anger and resentment felt by everyone involved, the need to protect each other, and their friends was amazing, and I found myself wishing that I could have friends like that, people who would slap me upside the head and tell me to get my act together. I highly recommend Soldier On to anyone looking for a great read, and I thank Sydney Logan for the chance to read such an amazing story.

“Oh, well, I have this date and he’s bringing a friend,” she started, but paused when I let out an aggravated huff. “Emma, just hear me out.”
“I’m not interested. Plus, I have to work.”
“You don’t even know what night I’m talking about,” she muttered.
“It doesn’t matter. I will make sure I have to work that night,” I scoffed. “Kel, you know that I love you, but I’m just not interested in dating right now. I mean, what’s the point? You get all worked up over some guy, just to have him break your heart when he gets tired of you.”

Sam was waiting patiently for the barista to make his drink with two extra shots of espresso when he heard the tinkling laughter of two nurses ordering their own coffees.
He turned to see what all the fuss was about. The tall, dark haired nurse was showing the slightly shorter, brunette friend something on her cell phone.
“Two venti cafe mochas, please,” the tall one ordered.
“Venti, Lexi? I’m going to have such a sugar high by the time I get to the bottom of the cup.” The other one laughed.
Sam noticed something familiar about the brunette nurse at that moment and her voice confirmed it. For years, he’d dreamed of long, wavy brown hair, a pair of bright blue eyes, and heart shaped lips. Sam couldn’t believe it’d been almost ten years since he last saw her in his parents’ kitchen. There was no thought in what he did next, he acted on pure instinct.
“Why, if it isn’t little Miss Sophie McKibbin.”
Sophie turned her head in his direction, and a soft smile spread across her lips when she giggled. “Mr. Sam Crawford. Fancy meeting you here.”
Lexi looked between the smiling pair with confusion. “Someone fill me in, please?”
“Sorry, Lexi. Sam, this is my best friend and roommate Lexi Carter. Lexi, this is Sam Crawford. He’s from Halston, too, and happens to be the brother of my cousin’s wife,” Sophie explained.
“Well, that explains the greeting. I guess the two of you didn’t know you worked in the same hospital?” Lexi asked.
Sophie looked at him in surprise. “You work here?”
Sam rubbed the back of his neck nervously. He never imagined he would be so uncomfortable in Sophie’s presence, but she’d grown even more beautiful since he last saw her.
“Yes. I’m one of the evening hospital administrators. I’m assuming you two are part of our top notch nursing staff?”
“Yes, in the intensive care unit,” Sophie responded.
“You must be the team Dr. Thomas has been bragging about.” Sam was stuck smiling as he gazed into her crystal-blue eyes. “We should all go out for a drink sometime.”
“Sounds great,” Sophie replied.
Sam dug his business card out of his pocket and wrote on the back. “This is my office number, but my cell is on the back.”
“Thanks.” Sophie’s cheeks reddened as she took the card from him.
“See you later.” He lifted his coffee cup to the two before he left the cafeteria.
Lexi grasped Sophie by the elbow and forced her into a nearby booth. “I need details. Who is that sex-on-a-stick, and why have I never met him before?”
Sophie shook her head as memories of a younger Sam flooded her mind.  The years had been very kind to him in her opinion. He was over six feet tall, with what appeared to be a lean yet muscled body. His light brown hair looked like it needed a trim, but was incredibly sexy at the same time. Like her own were, his eyes were blue, yet they seemed hold a sparkle she’d never seen before when he smiled.
“His younger sister and I were friends in high school. Sam was in college at that time, so I didn’t see much of him, but when I did . . .” Sophie got a faraway look in her eyes.
“You liked him!” Lexi smacked Sophie’s hand that lay on the table between them.
“Yep, I fell hard. I admit there was a bit of flirting, but nothing ever came of it.” Sophie ran her fingertips over her warm cheeks. “I thought I might see him a bit more once Caroline and my cousin, Drew, started dating, but he was working somewhere out east. Then I started dating Josh, and you know how that turned out.” Her relationship with Josh Reynolds had been a complete disaster, dictating how she had spent the last several years of her life.
“It’s time to get back on the horse, so to speak. I’m sure that cowboy wouldn’t mind a ride.”
Sophie laughed, but deep down in the dirty recesses of her mind, she could picture it happening.

In the highly anticipated stand-alone sequel to The End of All Things, Lissa Bryan returns readers to a world devastated by disease, and the breakdown of modern society. Two years after a horrific virus swept the globe, decimating the world’s population, Carly Daniels and her husband, Justin, have made a safe home in the isolated southern town of Colby. Protected by fences and a vigilant population, the residents there had somehow managed to keep the Infection out. Until the sight of Carly and Justin’s healthy baby girl convinced them it was safe to allow Outsiders in. Now, in the wake of fresh losses, the small band of survivors struggles to rebuild a community. With only nineteenth-century technology to aid them, they must learn skills long forgotten to provide for their basic needs. Each day brings new challenges, and every choice they make affects their long-term survival. While Carly and Justin adjust to a growing family, and to their roles as community leaders, they must rely on one another for strength and support when they face difficult questions. Carly has to decide how to move forward in a world where equality, justice, and freedom from tyranny are no longer guaranteed. And when new threats emerge, she has to decide what she is willing to do—and how far she’s willing to go—to protect what she has worked so hard to build. When the end has come and gone, it’s a journey down a long and broken road through The Land of the Shadow.
EXCERPT Justin was in the barn when he heard Carly scream, and the sound of it almost stopped his heart. It was a sound of sheer terror, a sound that could only mean . . . He didn’t finish the thought. His brain clicked into action mode, based on training and instinct, pushing his own fear aside. Justin jumped to snatch the pump-action shotgun mounted on pegs above the door and ran harder than he’d ever run in his life, pumping the weapon to chamber a round. He prayed as he ran. He didn’t know to whom he was praying, nor for what, but he prayed just the same. Rounding the corner of the house, he saw Kaden and Carly running toward a goddamn big alligator in the front yard. Sam darted around its sides, snapping. Justin caught up to Kaden just as the beast decided that Carly’s direction was a better avenue of escape than the path blocked by the snarling wolf and the two running men. It charged right at her, its mouth wide, tail thrashing in its wake. Carly jumped for the porch, clutching at the post, her foot braced on the rail. Kaden charged up the steps and swept Dagny up into his arms, flinging open the screen door to scramble inside the house. Dagny yelled something that sounded like, “No, kay!” as the keys tumbled from her hand to clatter on the floorboards. Justin heard her wail as the screen door slammed behind Kaden. But she was safe, and that was what mattered at the moment. Carly still clung to the porch rail, her eyes wide. Safe, too, Justin noted, as his mind switched over to seek-and-destroy mode. The alligator kept running across the lawn and straight into the cornfield, surprisingly fast for such a large, awkward creature. “Not the corn!” Justin swung wide to try to drive the reptile toward the road instead, but the alligator saw safety and concealment in the thick patch of tall green stalks. It charged into the patch, clearing a three-foot-wide path of broken stalks with every swipe of its thrashing tail. A flash of movement from the left caught Justin’s eye, and Pearl jumped in front of the alligator with a shout, waving her arms to prevent it from charging deeper into the field. The gator hissed at her and brandished its gaping maw, but began to back away. More people from the town, who had been drawn by Carly’s scream, ran across the lawn toward the corn patch. The confused alligator found himself surrounded, and he turned, crushing more stalks. Justin swore. He caught Pearl’s eye and didn’t even need to tell her what he needed. She shouted and feigned a lunge to get the gator’s attention, and it swung around to hiss at her. He darted to the gator’s side and aimed the shotgun at the back of its head. “Clear!” “No, Justin!” Carly shouted. “Don’t!” Justin groaned. His wife, the animal lover. Was she going to say something like, He can’t help he’s an alligator, and insist Justin transport the thing back to the swamp? He was already picturing wrapping the beast’s jaws with duct tape or something to avoid losing a goddamn hand in the process when she reached his side. Instead, she pulled out the .45 she wore at her hip and blasted the gator three times in the head. It slumped to the ground, dead as Caesar. “I didn’t want you to use the shotgun and tear up the hide,” Carly said. God, he loved her. He felt a grin stretch his cheeks. She turned toward the house but called over her shoulder to the staring townspeople as she ran to check on her baby. “We have meat.”

COVER REVEAL: Angel's Heart: The True Enemy

Author Lisa Bilbrey is proud to present the cover for the exciting second novel in the Angel's Heart Series, available June 1st!

Summary:

Sophie Crenshaw has saved the world by preventing the Angel's Heart from falling into the hands of Whitley Monroe. Now, she and her fiancé Henry Chang have returned to Austin, Texas, and back to the real world. Or have they?

Having been declared the savior of all mankind, Sophie finds that magic is all around her. As she struggles to find her way, she's bombarded by nightly dreams that have her on edge. Will she be able to keep her sanity while trying to decipher the meaning behind her visions? Or will an unknown enemy get to her first?

Except from Angel's Heart: The True Enemy:

Once she was within arm’s reach, Eleanor grabbed Sophie by the shoulders, dragging her to the ground with her. “He’s everywhere.”“Who is everywhere?” she asked. “Where did you go? You just left the island. Are you okay?”“The dark tide rises,” she cooed. “Stars tell the tale from the man in the moon. Heed their warning or suffer a fate worse than death.”“What are you talking about? Who’s the man in the moon? What warnings am I supposed to heed?” “Ah!” Eleanor screamed, releasing her hold on Sophie and grabbing her matted, grease covered hair. Pulling and twisting on the black locks, she drew the attention of more than a dozen blinds, who had stopped and were staring at the two women like they were dancing naked in the moonlight. “Salamanders breathe fire. Poor little crickets never stood a chance. Now they live in the belly of the beast.” Eleanor laughed, releasing her hair. Hooking her thumbs together, she spread her fingers and pretended they were a pair of wings. “Pretty little butterfly, lost and alone; wings made of silver and gold. Flutter to the heavens, little butterfly. Fly far, far away.  Don’t come back for another day!”“Someone, call the police,” a man standing behind her complained. “The bitch is as high as a kite. I’m so tired of these fucking homeless assholes coming out every time they need a fix, expecting us to feel sorry for them and give them money. They make the whole area look worthless.”“No shit,” his friend said, smirking. “They should lock them away and throw away the key, lazy-ass, sons of bitches.”Eleanor snapped her head up, glaring right at him. Tall and chubby, the man took a step backward as she stood up. Sophie could feel her grandmother trembling, but before Sophie could do anything to calm her down, Eleanor brought her hand up in front of her and said, “Thy reflected orbs offend my nature. Perhaps they should vanish, to save mankind from the judgment of a peon.” With a snap of her fingers, the man’s eyes disappeared, leaving nothing but a black shadow in their place

“I lost both my parents as a child.”“How did they die?” Daniel asked softly.“Car accident, same as my great-aunt and uncle.” Daniel's sharp intake of air was followed quickly by his next comment. “And you almost died in that car accident a few weeks ago. It seems fate is cruel.”Nessa realized he was right. Not so much about her dying, but the fact that fate seemed to repeat itself. “I didn't almost die. The doctor said I was lucky.”“You were lucky because I was there. If I hadn't been,” he argued, “who knows how long you would've been exposed. You could've died without me connecting with you.”“You are my savior, Daniel,” she whispered. “My beautiful angelic savior.”“You're too sweet with your words, ma belle.” “It's true, Daniel. I don't know what it is about you, but I feel such a connection to you,” she admitted as she traced her finger across the back of his hand. “You're always so cold.”Daniel guffawed. “Cold hands, warm heart.” He cupped her face, pulling her in close. “In this case, my heart flames for you.”Nessa's body relaxed into his and he pulled her, comforter and all, onto his lap. He cradled her close to him, savoring their connection as much as she did.
