As I slip quietly out of the suite and rush toward the elevator, I can’t deny I’m feeling a little better about Vegas.
That is, until the elevator doors open.
Standing there, leaning against the stainless steel wall with a cocky smile on his face, is the one person I really didn’t want to see this weekend.

Ethan grins as the elevator doors open. I don’t protest when he grabs me by the elbow and leads me toward the nearest exit. It’s not brightly lit, but there’s a very nice bouncer that Ethan greets by name who allows us to walk right out the door and into the starry Nevada night. He doesn’t let go of my arm as we hurry toward a black SUV.
“Why are you helping me?”
“You drugged a millionaire and stole his credit card info. I think it’s best we get you out of town.”
That doesn’t really answer my question, but I can’t argue with his logic.
Ethan opens the passenger door and helps me inside.
“Nice stilettos.”
I glare at him, and he shoots me a sexy smile before slamming my door.
It’s really too bad that I hate his guts.
Ethan Summers and I have crossed paths many times throughout the past couple years. It’s unavoidable, considering we’re two of the finest criminal minds in the world.
That’s what the news says, anyway.
“Let me guess,” Ethan says as he pulls the SUV out onto the highway. “You used Rohypnol on Jones?”
I roll my eyes. “I’m a thief, not a sexual predator.”

Ethan hums his disapproval. I can’t argue with him. Slipping Bradley a sedative is so amateur.
“I was desperate. The entire weekend has been a complete waste of time. When did the Viper install dome cams?”
“A few weeks ago. The casino’s hosting the U.S. Poker Championship next month. Ceiling cams are a requirement.”
“Super.”
“I know.”
“So, if you knew about the cameras, what were you doing at the casino?”
“Let’s just say a little birdie told me you were hitting the Viper tonight. I had a feeling you might need my assistance.”
“So you’ve been talking to Abby.”
He remains silent and keeps his eyes trained on the freeway, giving me the chance to study his profile. Ethan has a mop of unruly dark hair and deep blue eyes that make most girls go weak in the knees.
Not this girl. Nope.
“Like what you see?”
My face heats. I hate when he catches me ogling him.
“You’re an ass.”
He laughs. “Someday, Jenna, you’re going to stop fighting this attraction between us. I’m really looking forward to that.”

Ascension Blog tour
Release of Book 3 of
The Gates Legacy Series Ascension by Lorenz Font
What difficulties have you faced while writing your series, as far as storyline goes? How did you overcome them? So far, I haven’t faced any major difficulties as far as the storyline is concerned. The series has a multitude of characters and each book focuses on two main characters while introducing the next ones for the following installment. With that said, there are enough meaty subplots, back stories and scenes to last me until the fifth book of this series is written, and even for the spin-off series that is already brewing inside my head. However, what I encounter while writing the stories has more to do with keeping the balance of information and when to give them away. It is about knowing when to introduce a particular concept or even keeping tabs of the character names and the chronological order of incidents. The easiest one to write for me was the first book, Hunted. The reason for this is being the first one, all the ideas are fresh and telling the story is not a daunting task. On the second installment, I have to constantly go back to the first book and check the order of incidents, positions, and descriptions are accurate. Furthermore, I have to check on the death register just to be certain that a particular character is still alive. Let’s face it. This series has seen so many deaths—enough to give anyone whiplash. It gets harder as we delve deeper into the series because I’m constantly reminded by my well-meaning authors to give a short description of a certain character or incident to make it easy for the readers to follow just in case they caught the series in the middle. Now that is quite ironic considering I’m the author and I’m having a tough time following every single detail. It’s a tough call on when to give a certain idea to keep the balance as well as the interest of the readers. Sometimes, I find myself wanting to give all the details in one sitting which can create confusion since this series involved a long list of characters and multiple subplots. I think the best thing I have done with this series is the introduction of multiple points of view. The flimsy door was torn off its hinges like a piece of cardboard. “What the hell is going on here?” Rohnert’s voice rattled everything around them, sending the bottles of precious anesthetics to the floor with a loud crash. “Don’t you ever knock?” Shelly wobbled to the nearest chair and flopped onto it clumsily. “I heard you cry. What’s wrong?” Rohnert rushed to her side, ignoring her question, and placed his hand on her belly. It could have been the warmth of his touch or some quack medicinal magic, but her back felt instant relief. Shelly had wanted to deny him the privilege of connecting with their unborn child. Instead, she smothered a moan at the glorious reprieve he brought to her. She was much too proud to acknowledge how his presence soothed her. “Nothing’s wrong. I probably pulled a muscle when I bent down to pick up the scissors.” She tried to move away from him, to disconnect herself from his touch. The flimsy door was torn off its hinges like a piece of cardboard. “What the hell is going on here?” Rohnert’s voice rattled everything around them, sending the bottles of precious anesthetics to the floor with a loud crash. “Don’t you ever knock?” Shelly wobbled to the nearest chair and flopped onto it clumsily. “I heard you cry. What’s wrong?” Rohnert rushed to her side, ignoring her question, and placed his hand on her belly. It could have been the warmth of his touch or some quack medicinal magic, but her back felt instant relief. Shelly had wanted to deny him the privilege of connecting with their unborn child. Instead, she smothered a moan at the glorious reprieve he brought to her. She was much too proud to acknowledge how his presence soothed her. “Nothing’s wrong. I probably pulled a muscle when I bent down to pick up the scissors.” She tried to move away from him, to disconnect herself from his touch. Cheryl took one look at Rohnert, and without a word took her leave. Mort scrambled to his feet and followed suit. Rohnert kept his hand on her back. “You’re lying.” He peered at her. Shelly bit her tongue to keep herself from lobbing another furious retort. She looked away, focusing on the exit. He had no right to look so attractive and virile, and her heart shouldn’t be hammering against her chest the way it was. Under his close scrutiny, she felt vulnerable, naked almost, and she hated the sexual stirring in her gut. “You look tired.” “I’m fine. It’s my normal. I have to go to work now.” “You’re done working for the night.” Rohnert’s eyes bore into hers. The command in voice would have sent others seeking for cover. She was no pushover. “You’re not telling me what to do.” Shelly stood up and bolted past him. Rohnert was quick to restrain her, and he spun her around to face him. “I’m not doing this to annoy you. You have to look after yourself and our child. Your schedule doesn’t allow you enough rest.” Sure. He was going all gallant on her, showing concern. It was a bit too cozy and little too late. “No, it isn’t,” he said, answering her unspoken words. “I left because I wanted to protect—” “Oh spare me the details. You left because you’re afraid to show you care. Now that I’m pregnant, you come waltzing back into my life to take control. If you’re concerned for the child’s well-being, don’t be. I’m going to let It know who the sperm donor is.” She watched his face harden. “Do not call our child It. We’re going to give him a name, and I’m not just a donor. I intend to be a part of his life every step of the way.” So he had been eavesdropping. Just for kicks, she pushed on. “And how do you propose that we go about doing that?” Shelly held Rohnert’s gaze with enough challenge to discourage any man. His features softened, and his eyes crinkled. “I want a ceremony to bind us. I don’t want my son to be born a bastard.” As in getting married? Her chest felt weird all of a sudden, inflating at the prospect, but she tamped down her excitement. Where in hell does this man get these silly notions? “And if I won’t do it?” Rohnert smiled, exposing the tips of his fangs. “You won’t deny your child the life he deserves.” Too cocky for his own good. Shelly snorted and shook her head. “This child deserves to live in peace away from the killings and without the fear of getting killed.” It was obvious that she’d struck a nerve when his nostrils flared. Shelly stifled a smile. “I will protect my child with my life.” He pulled her closer until their faces were almost touching and held her chin with his thumb and forefinger. “You won’t get rid of me, even if you try.” Without giving her a chance to answer, he cupped her face with his big hands and captured her mouth in a hungry kiss, demanding her to respond. Shelly planted her palms against his chest and pushed. Rohnert didn’t budge. He growled against her lips and deepened the kiss, rendering her breathless and weak in the knees. Her hands relaxed then fisted in his jacket, finally feeling the burn of his mouth. Oh, God. How could she think straight? She prided herself on being tough, and she usually stuck to her resolve. Yet Rohnert short circuited her brain, making it difficult to think of anything but getting him between her legs. His hands wound down to the small of her back and pressed her body until there was not a hairline of space between them. She felt lightheaded. This had to stop. She wasn’t going to . . . Cookies are my weakness, and the Orange Slice Cookies are a favorite. One of my favorite memories of childhood were sneaking these cookies out of my Nano's cookie jar.
Ingredients:makes 6 dozen1 cup white sugar1 cup packed brown sugar1 cup shortening2 eggs1 teaspoon vanilla extract2 cups all-purpose flour1 teaspoon baking powder1 teaspoon baking soda1/2 teaspoon salt2 cups quick cooking oats2 cups orange-flavored fruit slice jelly candies
DirectionsIn large mixing bowl, cream together sugars and shortening till fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well. Stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir into creamed mixture.Stir in the oats, and the orange candy. NOTE: Dip a pair of kitchen shears into a glass of hot water or spray with a non-stick spray to make snipping the orange slices easier. Using about one tablespoon of mixture for each cookie, roll into one inch balls. Place on greased cookie sheets.Bake in a 350 degree F (175 degrees C) oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove and cool on a wire rack.
These Orange Slice Cookies were a hallmark of my childhood, and we rarely had a Christmas that went by that I didn't have these. In that spirit, I'd like to offer you a peak at one of my favorite novellas, Broken Hearts & Dusty Dreams:

What is this place?”Riley shrugged his shoulders, unsure how much he wanted to share with Natalie. He knew girls from the city often had more than people from the island. “I don’t know. Guess it’s just a place that I like to come.”“It’s nice.” Natalie scooted back on the log and brought her legs up, keeping her knees bent in front of her. “Bet you’re here all the time, aren’t you?”“Usually,” he chuckled. “Only the locals know about this place.”“Natalie!” At the sound of her name being screamed, she jumped off the log, turning toward the male voice.“I’d better go,” she mumbled. “Um, maybe I’ll see you around sometime, Riley.”“I’m almost always here.” Standing up, Riley reached over and brushed her hair behind her ear. “Like tomorrow morning at ten.”“You want me to come back?” Natalie’s words were full of surprise, and Riley wondered why she seemed so surprised.Shrugging his shoulders, Riley said, “Sure. What are the differences between publishing with a house and self-publishing?
Welcome to Serpent’s Kiss is my first venture in self-publishing. The first part of the process wasn’t all that different from what I was used to. After publishing nine books through a publishing house, I was familiar with the writing and editing process. Just because I was self-publishing didn’t mean I wanted the quality of my books to decrease so I stuck to what I was used to. I was able to freelance with the same editor who has worked on my last six books.The first thing that did change for me with self-publishing this book was my cover. I decided to have a custom cover made rather than use a stock photo. The entire process was a lot of fun. I was able to work with the photographer to pick a model and the props that would be used. This gave me a unique cover that was able to look exactly the way I wanted it to.My biggest challenge came when I went to create an IBSN for my book, and then upload it to Amazon. Since I’d never done it before, it took me a while to read through everything and make sure I was filling things out correctly. All in all, I think those two things took me upwards of six hours. It will get easier, I’m sure. The first time is always the hardest. Overall, I’ve enjoyed my self-publishing experience. It has, however, made me appreciate some of the behind the scenes stuff publishers do for authors.
