Book Summary
Beth Davenport has no interest in getting involved with another man for the foreseeable future. To say her last relationship ended in disaster would be a colossal understatement. The only reason she agrees to put in an appearance at Serpent’s Kiss, a private kink club in downtown St. Louis, is because her best friend, Nicole, won’t quit nagging her. When she walks in the door that night, the last thing she expects to do is meet a man who will have her reconsidering her ban on men.
As a captain with the St. Louis Fire Department, Drew Parker is used to being in charge. His crew relies on him to make sure they know what they’re doing and return home to their families after every shift. It isn’t, however, what he wants in a relationship. Drew decides to join Serpent’s Kiss to see if what appeals to him in fantasy is something he wants to explore in the real world. He’s also hoping that he’ll be lucky enough to meet a woman with whom he can explore his desires. The night Beth walks into the club, he is intrigued. Drew has to get to know her better.

After what happened to her, Beth is reluctant to get involved with Drew. It doesn’t matter that he is sweet and charming. She’s been burned before and Beth doesn’t think she can survive having her heart crushed again. Drew, however, won’t take no for an answer. He wants a relationship and is determined to chip away at her defenses until she relents. Will she give him a chance, or did her ex leave her with scars too deep to heal?

She plunged her tongue inside his mouth and took what she wanted. It was the hottest thing Drew could ever remember experiencing in his life. The kiss didn’t last more than a minute or two, but it was long enough for him to know he wanted more. Beth rested her forehead against his. She was breathing just as hard as he was. Her chest was heaving up and down, brushing against his chest. Not to mention that she was still straddling his lap. “Please tell me you want to do that again.”She laughed. It was so nice to see her happy and carefree. “Is that a yes?”“Don’t get cocky on me now.” She ran a single finger down the side of his face and over his lower lip.He closed his eyes, trying not to push.“Open your eyes,” she whispered. When he met her gaze, he noticed the amusement was gone. He was instantly on alert. “What’s wrong?”Beth shook her head. “Nothing’s wrong. I’m just . . . considering my options.”“Options about what?”“You.”“Oh.” He wasn’t sure he liked the fact that thinking over her options had banished the fun they’d be having. Before he could formulate another question, she explained. “Things between us are moving faster than I thought they would.”“Is that bad?” He needed to know. In his opinion, things between them weren’t moving fast enough. She sighed. But Drew also noted that she hadn’t removed herself from his lap. That was good, wasn’t it? “I don’t know. Maybe. Maybe not.”
Author Bio
Sherri spent most of her childhood detesting English class. It was one of her least favorite subjects because she never seemed to fit into the standard mold. She wasn't good at spelling, or following grammar rules, and outlines made her head spin. For that reason, Sherri never imagined becoming an author.
At the age of thirty, all of that changed. After getting frustrated with the direction a television show was taking two of its characters, Sherri decided to try her hand at writing an alternate ending, and give the characters their happily ever after. By the time the story finished, it was one of the top ten read stories on the site, and her readers were encouraging her to write more.
Nearly eight years later, Sherri is the author of eight full-length novels, and two short stories. Writing has become a creative outlet that allows her to explore a wide range of emotions, while having fun taking her characters through all the twists and turns she can create. After losing her husband unexpectedly, Katrina Mayer decided to open Serpent’s Kiss. She wanted it to be a place where she and her fellow kinksters could play and socialize.
Five years after the doors opened, the club is everything she’d hoped it would be. On Friday and Saturday nights, Serpent’s Kiss is filled with men and women who share a similar desire to explore the pleasures BDSM has to offer. The club has continued to grow, and over the years, many of its members have become friends.
The one thing Katrina didn’t expect when she’d decided to open a club was the human drama that came with it. Learning to balance her life as the club mistress has taken some getting used to, but she wouldn’t change a thing.

I asked:
What advice do you have for new authors who are searching for ways to get their names out there? And what's been the most challenging aspect of promotion you've faced?
And Ms. Sherri Hayes said:
One of the biggest helps I’ve found is networking with other authors. Everything else I’ve discovered from author takeovers to conferences to author spotlights have stemmed from that. Being a writer isn’t like a lot of other professions. If a reader buys another author’s book, that doesn’t mean they won’t buy yours as well, so teaming up with other authors who write the same genre(s) you do is good. This way you can share information, advice, and opportunities that benefit all of you.
The most challenging part of promotion is time. Sometimes it feels as if I have to choose between marketing and writing. Finding balance can be difficult when it seems as if there is always something else that needs to be done, but authors have to remember that writing more books will ultimately have an affect on their sales as well. It’s not something you can put on the back burner and forget about.

GUEST POST: The One that Got Away by M.B. Feeney

23153975

I've been a long time fan of M. B. Feeney's, so when the chance to have her on my blog again came around, I jumped at the chance. Her book, The One that Got Away, is next on my TBR List, and I can't wait. In the meantime, I asked her:

What's the biggest struggle you faced with this book?
And she said:
This story started life as a Twific one shot which was about 3,500 words long, and was lacking in an overall story. Yes it had a beginning, middle, and end, but these events were very close together.About three years ago, I decided I would work on extending it. I ended up with about 4 chapters, about 9,000 words, before I put it to one side, frustrated that it wasn’t going anywhere.
One day, I opened the file, and printed the entire doc off and began scribbling on it in bright green pen. I jotted down character profiles and  worked out that I needed an epilogue to build up Heidi and Shane’s back story. That’s when I realised it needed to be dual POV. Once I got started, I managed to get the story pretty much written and finished.
I left it alone while I worked on other things, and when I came back to it and realised it was missing quite a few things. I worked on it for a couple of months, got it edited by a good friend before fleshing bits and pieces out.
I then sent it off to my editor for a final read through feeling pretty pleased with myself. My editor dropped me a note explaining that she felt The One That Got Away would be better with another substantive edit. After reading through her comments, I agreed.
Eventually, the book was complete and I couldn’t be prouder. As much as I got frustrated or a bit despondent, I persevered with it. I wanted this book released because it’s quite different to anything I’d released before now. So, even though I am more nervous than excited about release day, I can’t wait to see how readers take to the story.I *think* I answered your question…

There’s something about that one person we date in our teens but never become intimate with. Why does a sexless relationship render us unable to stop carrying that person, the what if, with us into our adult life? For Heidi Johnson, Shane Hughes is her “one that got away.” Through the years, he has stayed in the back of her mind while she became an adult, a mother, and her own person. Meanwhile, Shane has lived a life of regret that he let Heidi go for the wrong reasons: fear and a misguided sense of not wanting to hurt either of them. When they reconnect online, the memories they've tried to suppress over the years return, reigniting the feelings never explored ‘back in the day.’ Will a school reunion in their home town of London, surrounded by old school friends, help the pair address the questions the years apart left unanswered? Or will they still be left with wanting more?

For almost half an hour I sat at an abandoned table by the wall, smoking my cigarettes one after the other. Apart from a few voices filtering out through the open doors, I sat in complete silence. Not one other person came out, but I could hear voices. It seemed most of the smokers were outside the front, leaving me to feel like I was the only smoker in the building.
Leaning back against the wall, I let the soft breeze play over my flushed face and was savouring a bit of peace and quiet when I looked at my watch and jumped. I hadn’t realised that it was so late—time certainly does fly when you’re having fun. Which I had been having, before the need to escape into the dark overtook me. Crushing out my cigarette in the huge metal ashtray, I stood to go back inside. I stalled when I caught sight of Shane making his way through the crowded downstairs room of the pub, walking in the direction of the beer garden. Towards me. Crumpling back down onto the seat, I lit another cigarette, my hand shaking from nerves, and . . . something else. It was okay sitting close to him in a crowded room surrounded by people, but the garden was deserted and dark. He spotted me pretty quick thanks to the glowing orange tip of my lit cigarette.
“Nice spot.” He pointed to the overhanging branches of ivy that partially hid the table. Without speaking further, he sat down next to me and took my face between his warm, strong hands. All I could see were his beautiful eyes locking on me—right before his lips crashed into mine.

~~EXCERPT~~ Maybe-3D-Book-Stack-1 Walking toward him is like trudging through the deepest mud, but I hold my head high, my hands in my pockets and strides long. When I'm less than a foot away, his head turns toward me without lifting his chin, and he looks up from under his brows. The white smoke from his cigarette causes his eyes to nearly close before he pulls it from his lips and exhales upward into the air. I'm struck by how incredibly handsome he is in black wool and new jeans. I want to know if his skin feels hot under his clothes and if his back feels the same when I scratch fingernails across his spine. My fists clench in my coat pockets at the thought. This is going to be so much harder than I'd been prepared for.

~~Guest Post~~
With so many new releases coming out,how do you focus your attention on each one individually?
Remind me to never do that again! LOL It has been a crazy year and a half, that’s for sure. I was editing three books at one time for about a month. It was insane. But now that I am at the point where they are coming out, it’s easier to focus a little bit more. When Eight Days a Week came out, I was starting my social media promo for Maybe. So once Dee and the gang made their debut, I switched my focus to Maybe and the cross promo for the next book, For Authentication Purposes. I’m incredibly lucky because I have a wonderful street team and group of readers, bloggers and reviewers, that help me get the word out. And I’ve been really blessed to have the team from TWCS holding my hand every step of the way. The entire process has been the most incredible learning experience. March feels like the finish line, ya know? I can see it!

Sneak Peek Sunday: Éire's Viking Trilogy by Sandi Lane

A man of ability and ambition, Tuirgeis Erlingrson has nurtured the desire to carve a place of leadership for himself on the Green Island, Éire, that he has raided multiple times. After the death of his wife in Nordweg, he takes his surviving son to Éire. Having connections with his adopted brother, Cowan, and Agnarr, his former countryman, Tuirgeis feels he has the support he needs to make his claims strong. Agnarr is torn. His promise to Aislinn to remain with her on Éire is still in force, and he resists Tuirgeis’s requests to join the conquering forces from Nordweg. He desires above all things to maintain a safe home for his wife and children in Dal Fíatach. Charis encourages Cowan to do the same, though this makes for tense moments between them. After initial disastrous attempts to achieve his ambition, Tuirgeis comes to learn that there is more to claiming a kingship than merely overpowering the locals. Tuirgeis finds himself at odds with the very people he had hoped would reinforce him. In addition, he wants to establish his father-line. He has one son; he wants another to be born of Éire. Will the woman of his choice accept and support him? Medieval battle smallerAt length, Agnarr and Aislinn—though she is heavy with child—sail with Cowan and Charis to join Tuirgeis as he battles over one final summer to attain the High Kingship of the island. Tuirgeis knows he doesn’t have long to make his claims; the Danes are coming in greater numbers than before. As he wins men of Éire to his cause, he has to maintain the relationships he has already fostered with Agnarr and Cowan. Charis finds that her Otherworldly gifts are needed by a man she considers her enemy.
bbda3-sneakpeeksunday Sandi Layne is quite excited to share from the conclusion of her Éire's Viking Trilogy. EDK-Hi-Res-Cover Summary:Excerpt:When the Éire-men began talking in low tones in their own language, Haukr leaned toward Tuirgeis and spoke. “Will we gain treasure here?” “No. But we need allies, and those we will find.” “Allies.” Haukr frowned and resumed his former posture. “I thought we were after riches.” “Patience.” Agnarr caught his eye, offered him an interesting smile that seemed one part confident and one part amused. Cowan and the king exchanged another glance, and the latter translated while the former spoke. “Did you think to settle all your men here?” “Not all of them want to stay,” Tuirgeis assured the ruler. “However, some may winter here.” At this, the king half-turned from the fire ring, beckoning to Cowan and Agnarr with a small, authoritative gesture. A quiet conversation followed, and Tuirgeis felt a small smile creep over his face. He let his gaze drift around the others in the round house. Charis’s pale skin seemed to almost shine in the gloom of the room as she stood back from the men around the fire. His smile fled as she studied him. He remembered her from their earliest acquaintance, on a longship where she clung to the bottom of the craft, her eyes vacant and staring over open water. Stubborn, she had been. Stubborn she had remained while yet a trell in Agnarr’s service. Stubborn she likely was, even now. Yet she had captured the heart of Geirmundr Kingson, and they had fled Nordweg together. Wordlessly, he beckoned her over. After a moment, she came. It was true—he had thought she looked unchanged when he caught a glimpse of her earlier, and she certainly seemed to be so. Touched by Freya, perhaps. “Lord Tuirgeis,” she said with a lifted brow. “And your son.” Haukr jerked his head in obvious surprise. “You speak Norse.” “Ja,” she said, her tone sarcastic even on the single syllable. “I had no choice but to learn. You are Haukr.” Astonishment froze Tuirgeis, but only for a moment. The woman’s sense of herself was even stronger than it had been in earlier years. She is a force to be reckoned with. “He is Haukr, my son. Haukr, this is . . . Charis, wife of my brother Cowan.” The two nodded politely at one another. “My brother treats you well, Charis?” “Cowan mac Branieucc is a fair man. A good husband and father,” she replied. “He is indeed. And how is your daughter?” It was mischief itself to ask, but he wanted the woman to exhibit some emotion. Her passivity was maddening. At his side, his son just stared at Charis, a look of confusion furrowing his unlined brow. “Aislinn is well. She has made me a grand-dam twice over.” Haukr leaned forward, mouth agape. “A grand-dam? Lady Charis, that isn’t possible. You cannot be much older than I.” “It is true, nevertheless.” Tuirgeis endeavored to keep his son from making a fool out of himself. He had a reputation to uphold. “You will find, Haukr, that Cowan’s wife is an unusual woman.”

Excerpt
SNEAK PEEK SUNDAY: Burning for Her Kiss by Sherri Hayes

Burning For Her Kiss by Sherri HayesGenre: BDSM Erotic RomanceRelease Date: February 12, 2015

Book SummaryBeth Davenport has no interest in getting involved with another man for the foreseeable future.

ExcerptFriday night Drew put on his best black jeans and a dark blue T-shirt his ex-girlfriend always said made his eyes pop. He was hoping Beth would be at the club. Drew still wasn’t quite sure how to cross that line Beth had drawn in the sand regarding their relationship, but he knew he had to figure out something. The first thing he did when he walked in the door of Serpent’s Kiss was look for Beth. It took a minute, but he found her in the corner laughing with Katrina. Drew smiled. She looked happy. Relaxed. As if Beth could feel his eyes on her, she turned her head in his direction. Her smile faltered, and his heart sank. She wasn’t pleased to see him. A second later, Nicole was in front of him. “Don’t get discouraged.”He blinked. “What?”“Beth. Don’t let her attitude discourage you.”“Oh. Okay.”Nicole smirked. “Come. Let’s get a drink.”Without a better option, Drew allowed Nicole to lead him across the room to the bar. She ordered herself a drink, and he did the same. They found two bar stools and sat down. “You handled last Saturday well. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought we’d never met.” “Well, we hadn’t. Not officially.”She smiled. “True.”The bartender placed their drinks in front of them, and Nicole twirled the little umbrella between her fingers. “What are your intentions, Drew Parker?” He nearly choked on his drink. “Excuse me?” “You heard me. I’m sure you’ve heard Beth’s story. Or at least part of it. I don’t want to see her hurt. So I’ll ask again. What are your intentions?”Drew thought for a moment. He could refuse to answer, but he wasn’t sure that was the best idea. So far, Nicole had been his best ally. “I want to ask her out.”“And?”“And I don’t know. As I’m sure you know, I’m new to this. I don’t really know what comes next. Or if I’m overstepping some unwritten rule. All I know is that I’m attracted to her. I’d like to see if there’s more.”“Are you looking for a relationship, or someone to scratch your itch?” Nicole asked.Drew had to hand it to her. She wasn’t pulling any punches. “I’m looking for a relationship. Is Beth that woman? I don’t know yet.”Nicole took a sip of her drink and grinned. “Fair enough. And honest. Okay, I’ll help you. But if you break her heart, I’ll break your balls. Got it?”The look she gave Drew had him swallowing nervously. He had no doubt she meant it. “Got it.” “Good. Now, go mingle with your friends. In about an hour, find her and say hi. Keep it light.”“Anything else?” he asked. She slid off the stool and patted him on the back. “Turn on that firefighter charm all you boys are famous for. It might make a small dent in that wall of hers.”

As I slip quietly out of the suite and rush toward the elevator, I can’t deny I’m feeling a little better about Vegas.
That is, until the elevator doors open.
Standing there, leaning against the stainless steel wall with a cocky smile on his face, is the one person I really didn’t want to see this weekend.

With a miserable groan, I step inside the elevator and furiously stab the button.

“Are you following me, Summers?”

“I’d follow your dimples anywhere, York.”

Ethan Summers is infuriatingly charming and handsome. Both assets have proven to be beneficial to his career and detrimental to mine.

“Well, these dimples just lifted Bradley Jones’ credit card numbers.”

“Impressive. Although, one might argue that a more superior con artist would be capable of accomplishing such a feat without showing a little skin. Really, Jenna, I’m disappointed.”

He rarely calls me by my first name. Last names have always been our thing.

“Were you watching me?”

“Every heterosexual man in the casino was watching your little performance. Nice legs, by the way.”

Crap.

“Not good,” I mutter.

“No, but I enjoyed it.”

Ethan grins as the elevator doors open. I don’t protest when he grabs me by the elbow and leads me toward the nearest exit. It’s not brightly lit, but there’s a very nice bouncer that Ethan greets by name who allows us to walk right out the door and into the starry Nevada night. He doesn’t let go of my arm as we hurry toward a black SUV.

“Why are you helping me?”

“You drugged a millionaire and stole his credit card info. I think it’s best we get you out of town.”

That doesn’t really answer my question, but I can’t argue with his logic.
Ethan opens the passenger door and helps me inside.

“Nice stilettos.”

I glare at him, and he shoots me a sexy smile before slamming my door.

It’s really too bad that I hate his guts.

Ethan Summers and I have crossed paths many times throughout the past couple years. It’s unavoidable, considering we’re two of the finest criminal minds in the world.

That’s what the news says, anyway.

“Let me guess,” Ethan says as he pulls the SUV out onto the highway. “You used Rohypnol on Jones?”

I roll my eyes. “I’m a thief, not a sexual predator.”

“Well, you obviously slipped something into his drink.”

“Sleeping pill.”

Ethan hums his disapproval. I can’t argue with him. Slipping Bradley a sedative is so amateur.

“I was desperate. The entire weekend has been a complete waste of time. When did the Viper install dome cams?”

“A few weeks ago. The casino’s hosting the U.S. Poker Championship next month. Ceiling cams are a requirement.”

“Super.”

“I know.”

“So, if you knew about the cameras, what were you doing at the casino?”

“Let’s just say a little birdie told me you were hitting the Viper tonight. I had a feeling you might need my assistance.”

“So you’ve been talking to Abby.”

He remains silent and keeps his eyes trained on the freeway, giving me the chance to study his profile. Ethan has a mop of unruly dark hair and deep blue eyes that make most girls go weak in the knees.

Not this girl. Nope.
“Like what you see?”

My face heats. I hate when he catches me ogling him.

“You’re an ass.”

He laughs. “Someday, Jenna, you’re going to stop fighting this attraction between us. I’m really looking forward to that.” a Rafflecopter giveaway

~~SUMMARY~~A man of ability and ambition, Tuirgeis Erlingrson has nurtured the desire to carve a place of leadership for himself on the Green Island, Éire, that he has raided multiple times. After the death of his wife in Nordweg, he takes his surviving son to Éire. Having connections with his adopted brother, Cowan, and Agnarr, his former countryman, Tuirgeis feels he has the support he needs to make his claims strong.Agnarr is torn. EDK-3D-Open-Book-2 After initial disastrous attempts to achieve his ambition, Tuirgeis comes to learn that there is more to claiming a kingship than merely overpowering the locals. Tuirgeis finds himself at odds with the very people he had hoped would reinforce him. In addition, he wants to establish his father-line. He has one son; he wants another to be born of Éire. Will the woman of his choice accept and support him?At length, Agnarr and Aislinn—though she is heavy with child—sail with Cowan and Charis to join Tuirgeis as he battles over one final summer to attain the High Kingship of the island.Tuirgeis knows he doesn’t have long to make his claims; the Danes are coming in greater numbers than before. As he wins men of Éire to his cause, he has to maintain the relationships he has already fostered with Agnarr and Cowan. Charis finds that her Otherworldly gifts are needed by a man she considers her enemy.
~~EXCERPT~~It was dark in the langhús, save for the glowing of the coals banked in the fire ring. Agnarr enjoyed his wife’s responsiveness to him, and when they made love, he never forgot to thank his new God for letting her live through the births of the children their bodies made together. Before the sun crept under the door and through the shutters over the new windows, they were smiling and silent and relishing the moments—he knew there would only be moments—before the children stirred in the bench-bed they shared. Later, as their son and daughter began shifting restlessly prior to awakening, Agnarr sat up and blew out a breath. “Wife.” “Yes, husband?” She joined him, finding his hand with hers in the shadowy enclosure of their private area. EDK-3D-Paperback-1“We need to be ready. You need to be ready. You and the children.” She sighed and shifted on the blankets so that she was looking directly at him. As was her habit, she continued to touch him with her fingers as she spoke. “I can fight. And you gave Dow a real knife at the Christ Mass.” Discomfort tightened his stomach as he shook his head. “You need to be able to escape, just in case.” He knew far too well what would happen if someone found his attractive wife. Someone whom he didn’t know. Someone who would find her dark hair appealing and the tatú on her cheek mysterious and alluring. Someone who would want to take her as their leman, as he had once taken Charis. Someone who might take his son as a slave. Jaw tightening in anger, he shook his head again. Hard. “You know what can happen to you.” Her eyes were on his face, and he met their steady gaze. “And the children. You need to be able to get away. We should find a way to make you safe.” Goodreads * Add to Want To Read List
