Double Take
He smiled as he listened to the local news report. In the past month, three sets of twins had disappeared, only to be found dead a few days later, their bodies stuffed in the trunk of a car. The police were calling him a madman. It wasn't true though. He was simply doing what had to be done. Methodically and efficiently. Clicking off the television, he reached for the file on his desk. It was time to see who was next on the list.
I need you to find my sister. Those were the words that drove Caleb Knight from his bed well before sunrise. Find my sister, Keith had said. She isn't answering her phone. As he sped across town, years of experience told Caleb that he was overreacting. Grace was a beautiful, intelligent, desirable woman. There were many reasons a woman like that didn't answer her phone before dawn. But here he was, parking the car, and feeling like an idiot. He could only imagine the look on Grace's face when he dragged her from her bed. With one last fleeting thought for his professional reputation, Caleb stepped out of the car. Then he heard her scream.
Coming Out at the end of June 2012!

Blurb for Double Take
I need you to find my sister. Those were the words that drove private detective Caleb Knight from his bed well before sunrise. The same words that had him dressed and heavily armed in less than five minutes as he hurried to his car. And what the hell was he supposed to do if she wasn't alone ? With one last fleeting thought for his professional reputation, Caleb stepped out of the car. Then he heard her scream.

The Legend of Michael (Zodius, #1)
HE IS A LETHAL WEAPON…
One of an army of human soldiers injected with alien DNA, Michael is a legend within this new race, split between good and evil. Untamable, he has walked on the dark side and returned to the light. Feared and misunderstood, he leaves everything behind, including the one woman destined to be his mate.

HE IS HER ENEMY…AND HER DESTINY…
Fate leads Michael back to Cassandra Powell, for she holds the key to defending his comrades. With their loyalties divided between duty and the people they love, only together can Cassandra and Michael overcome insurmountable odds to save humanity from the wrath of a madman.
But no ordinary woman can control a creature such as Michael, and only one thing is clear—the world will never be the same.
My Thoughts
First, I have to be upfront and admit that this is not my typical reading genre. I'm a contemporary romance writer and reader. That, hands down, is my favorite kind of book. But in 2012, I decided to challenge myself, expand my horizons, and meet new authors. So it was with both curiosity and trepidation that I chose this book.
I am happy to confess that I enjoyed this book. The story line was familiar enough - strong, brave men fighting to save the world - that I didn't feel like a fish out of water. But it also had a paranormal quality that was new to me. I really liked the fact that it wasn't so farfetched that I couldn't relate. A chemically altered super soldier is an almost plausible concept these days.
There were some jumps in time that seemed unnecessary, but other than that, the story was well written, creative, and entertaining.
Unfortunately, I have to say that Michael was not one of my favorite characters. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a strong, brave man. Just check out my previous reviews and you'll see what I mean. My problem with Michael was that whole 'you would be better off without me' bit. He thinks, for reasons I won't go into here, that he's not good enough for Cassandra, so he repeatedly tries to get her to reject him. Martyrdom irritates me. I'd much rather have a man who trusts the woman he's with to know and accept what she's getting into. None of this crap about 'if you only knew me, you wouldn't love me'. I seriously hate that! Michael doesn't trust himself enough or Cassandra enough, to know that they can make it work. I want him to fight for her and for their happiness (figuratively, not literally). I want him to be happy that he's found the he'll spend the rest of his life with instead of angsting over the entire situation. Eventually, Michael does find acceptance and, after that, I'm a much happy reader. Eventually though, I was frustrated with the main character, I would still recommend reading The Legend of Michael, especially if you're a reader who likes the strong, silent, soldier type.

In addition, many have strong family connections to the servicemen andwomen of our nation's military, and many specialize in novels featuring heroesand heroines from all branches of service.
My Thoughts
I'malways a sucker for brave and powerful men. And SEALS? They're in a category ofyum all their own. So passing up a book with eighteen different stories withSEALS was absolutely OUT OF THE QUESTION. And the fact that all proceeds fromthe sale of the book go to the veterans makes it a win-win for everyone.
Ienjoyed the book a great deal. Each story was unique and well written. Strong, brave, passionate men. Fearless, intelligent women. Not a helpless, wimpycharacter in sight. I think each and every author represented the best of what itmeans to be a SEAL - strength, courage, honor, love, and unwavering loyalty. Theseare men readers will love to love and root for!
