Now at year end, I can say unequivocally that was the best book read by me this year and I cannot say that I enjoyed much of it, or felt much joy. But as a biographic- it had to be told.

Excellent work. I have been waiting for another like his earlier novel based in Toronto:" In the Skin of the Lion". This is set in London during and after WWII. It is bloody poignant with characterization so so rich, it begs a chance in the cinema!
