Jordyn Redwood is a nursing supervisor by night, suspense author by day. Her love of all things medical led to the creation of Redwood's Medical Edge-- a blog devoted to helping contemporary and historical novelists write medically accurate fiction.

Jordyn is known for her edgy medical thrillers. Proof, Poison and Peril earned several critical reviews and Proof and Poison were each nominated for several awards.

Fractured Memory was contracted through Love Inspired's Blurb to Book contest. Taken Hostage and Fugitive Spy are her follow-up Love Inspired Suspense novels.

In her spare time, Jordyn enjoys hiking, quilting and cross-stitching-- and reading, of course!

What follows is his take.

When cops are hired their fingerprints are taken. If their DNA was needed to differentiate their DNA from another person's at a crime scene they would do so, but it's not a routine thing.

Lots of cops are former military and I would say in the last twenty years if you served then your DNA would be on file somewhere. I don't think it would be part of CODIS (the Combined DNA Index System) though because that's only a criminal database.

If a cop was suspected, I'm not sure there would be a backdoor way to get his DNA profile from one of those sources I mentioned (military or CODIS). Officers working the case could easily swab something like his patrol car, computer keyboard, or something else owned by the department because there's no expectation of privacy there.

In the last ten years or so a lot of jurisdictions are collecting DNA from any person arrested on a felony. The court orders it. I'm sure there have been challenges and as far as I know it has been held up.

Also, anytime there's a new submission to CODIS, the profile is automatically checked against unsolved crimes. When police take DNA from a crime scene with no suspect, they submit the profile to CODIS and it goes on record. Later, if someone is arrested for a felony and their DNA is submitted to CODIS, now matching a name to the profile, it could clear the older case.

Hopefully this answers your question. I'll be also posting this answer to my blog. (less)

Author Question: Medical Care of the Kidnapped Patient

Robyn Asks:

My adult character was kidnapped and held for a few hours. She wasn’t injured beyond a couple of bruises and where the tape was wrapped around her hands. I have that she was taken to the ER just to check vital signs, etc.  How long would they keep her?  Just until labs come back? They don’t need to do x-rays, and there was no head injury so no question of concussion. Thoughts?

I'm really far behind in a lot of my reviews due to the dumpster fire that was 2020 and still may be 2021-- who knows at this point.

Normal James Patterson fare here. Quick, short chapters. Intriguing characters. A few surprising twists and turns. Ke

“What I know is that God is always working around us. He doesn't just work within the walls of a denomination. Sometimes, I think we feel if we can get unbelievers through the church doors, the church will do the rest and our obligation is met. It's obvious Lilly has great resistance to anything structured. We need to watch for where God is working around her. Show her grace. Be there as much as she allows. - Dana”

“So are we going to play this good cop, bad cop?" Brett asked as Nathan returned to the monitoring room.
"Absolutely not. We're going to play this bad cop and on-the-verge-of-homicidal-maniac cop. You get to play bad cop."
"But you know I love the maniacal, homicidal role better."
"Let's just do it cleanly.”

Saw it and loved it! Thanks for taking the time to answer my post. Doing a little dance in my room - can't wait for the next book. :)

Jordyn Redwood Terah--- I hope you see this.

Thanks so much for your note. I'm so glad you LOVED Proof. And because you sent me such an awesome note-- I'll let you in on Poison.

Poison takes place about 5 years after the Chapter 2 hostage incident in Proof. Keelyn, the oldest survivor, is now engaged to Lee-- the SWAT commander and Raven is missing.

Nathan is in book #2 pretty heavily. I guess I fell in love with him too thought the primary focus is Lee and Keelyn. Lilly Reeves makes a few appearances as well.

And-- book #3 is slated to be a blow out! It will be the most intense of ALL three for sure. No release date for Peril (tentative title).

Thanks again for your note and I hope you'll keep spreading the word about Proof!!

Jordyn

Terah Edun Hi Jordyn, I can’t wait until Poison is out! I’ve never been into Christian lit OR Medical Thrillers. You’ve converted me. Can you give a hint – will Bloodlines #2 feature the same cast of characters or a different group entirely?
