The Theory of Motivation
I'm a little less motivated today (tired)
Ever wonder where motivation comes from? There are a number of different theories.
1) Instinct Theory: Biology -- the same thing that drives birds to make their nests and spiders to spin webs;
2) Drive Reduction Theory/Arousal Theory -- similar ideas, they assume motivation is like hunger or thirst and must be sated or balanced to achieve calm;
3) Psychoanalytic Theory -- based on Freud, who said all humans have 2 basic goals: to help us survive, or prevent our destruction. So this theory would assume that motivation is a survival instinct; and
4) Humanistic Theory -- the idea that humans are simply wired to achieve their maximum potential and will always do so unless obstacles are placed in their way (which can include hunger, thirst, financial difficulty, etc)
So what's your theory?

Research and Rules
Since I write mostly fantasy or paranormal, with a little horror thrown in every once in a while, I can mostly make stuff up if I want. But there are times when I need to do some research.
I don't look at my research the same way some writers do, though. Most of the time I'm not researching a thing in order to write it "properly".
See, I want to know everything there is to know about a thing so that I can twist it around on itself. I'm a firm believer in understanding the rules before breaking them. :)
What do you think of research?

What I'm Reading
I would say that I'll make this a weekly post, but I read really slowly right now, because I only read once I've made my writing goal for the day, and sometimes that isn't until after midnight (*whimper*). However, I've had a chance to do a little bit of reading recently since I'm keeping on top of my writing routine!
Currently sitting on my bedside table is River Marked by Patricia Briggs (great series!) and Night Circus by by Erin Morgenstern. What are you reading?

Summertime Begins
You know that summer has begun when you're having a Backyard BBQ Party!
I'm excited to have friends over this weekend to celebrate...nothing! We're just going to hang out on the deck, barbecue some burgers and chat all night. This is how I like to ring in the summer every year.
I have some pretty lanterns and ribbon lights to turn on, and I'll play some great music. It'll be so much fun!

Randomness
Yesterday on Twitter we were talking about our favourite things, so here's a list of mine:
1. Brand spanking new pajamas (I got them yesterday, hence the discussion)
2. Brand new ultra white pair of thick socks
3. Cheesecake (this should probably be number 1 in fact)
4. The warm cuddle of a sleepy baby.
5. Playing with a fuzzy puppy.
6. A book that makes you cry and laugh and shake with a whole spectrum of messy emotions.
7. A big hot cup of coffee first thing in the morning.
8. Drinking that cup of coffee out on a dock overlooking a crystal clear lake.
9. Driving really fast on an open road (with seatbelts of course)
10. When someone says you're beautiful.

Little Red
I saw this great animation of a Little Red Riding Hood adaptation.
Of course, I can't embed it here, so click to go watch on YouTube: here

Rambling
Can you believe it's MAY already? Holy crap, where is this year going?
Although you know, as much as the time seems to have flown by, it feels like spring is taking it's freakin' damn time. Finally today I was able to go outside without a jacket and soak up some nice weather. It was awesome!
So, what else to say? Geez, I feel old talking about the passage of time and the weather.
Quick, let's change the subject and talk about...sex and loud music. *grin*

Money!
I just found out I'm going to get a decent tax refund, and I immediately started checking out vacation sites, LOL. Now, I probably won't be going on vacation with that money. I know I should pay some extra bills and invest the rest of it like a responsible adult, but it would be nice wouldn't it?
So, what would you do with your tax refund if you could spend it on anything?
