USA Today Bestselling Author

Born in Denmark, Sophie has spent her youth traveling with her parents to wonderful places all around the world. She’s lived in five different countries, on three different continents, and speaks Danish, English, French, Spanish and Romanian.

She has studied design in Paris and New York and has a bachelor’s degree from Parson’s School of design, but most impressive of all – she’s been married to the same man three times, in three different countries and in three different dresses.

While living in Africa, Sophie turned to her lifelong passion – writing.

When she’s not busy, dreaming up her next romance novel, Sophie enjoys spending time with her family, swimming, cooking, gardening, watching romantic comedies and, of

And then when my debut did as well as it did, I just knew that this was what I wanted to do on a permanent basis.

As far as getting started in the industry, I owe a debt of gratitude to a number of people. My mother-in-law opened my eyes to the romance genre. Before meeting her, I honestly didn’t realize that there was such a thing as a romance genre, perhaps because I was reading mainstream fiction and didn’t really think about the various categories that books might fall into. Sure, I’d heard about Jackie Collins, Jilly Cooper and Barbara Cartland, but I was completely unaware of how huge the romance industry is. Due to my personal fondness for historical settings in both books and movies, I chose to give Regency romance a try, and although it was harder than I anticipated because of all the research required (I suddenly realized that I didn’t know nearly as much as I thought I did about that period), it’s been a truly wonderful category for me.(less)

“It began with the twitch of her lower lip as it took on a life of its own, rippling outward to the corners of her mouth and forcing them upward into a helpless smile. She instantly clasped one hand over her mouth in a frantic attempt to silence the sound that was coming from her throat. The result was that she half-spluttered, half-coughed, her eyes painfully wide as she desperately wished a hole would emerge in the oriental carpet and mercifully swallow her up.”
Sophie Barnes, How Miss Rutherford Got Her Groove Back

“Never in a million years would he have imagined her to look at him like that - eyelids batting of their own volition and her lips puckering in expectation as she leaned slightly forward. Yet here she was doing precisely that - it was much too comical to stop the smile crossing his face.
And that was when she hit him.
It wasn't a faint slap on the cheek. No, Alexandra put all her weight behind the right hook that landed squarely across his jaw, throwing him completely off balance.
Damnation!”
Sophie Barnes, Lady Alexandra's Excellent Adventure

“Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Anthony turned to look at her. It was difficult for him to discern her expression with the mask she was wearing, but he could see her eyes, and there was something so honest, yet desperate, hidden there that he found it impossible to look away. She was mesmerizing, and whatever reason she had for being there, he knew that it was vitally important to her, that attending the ball was not without risk.”

Not yet anyway. Therefore, he had made up his mind. He had devised a carefully thought-out plan, its sole purpose being to eventually ensure Emily's hand in marriage. And he would do it the old fashioned way--through trickery.”

Sophie Barnes Thanks for the friendship, Kat. I love the Bridgertons, and wouldn't you know it...Romancing Mr. Bridgerton is the very book that got me started as a Regency period romance author - love the humor! Fortunately I still have 3 books left in the series...not sure what I'll do once I finish reading them. Read them again perhaps?
Have a great weekend and all the best,
Sophie
