Most of us in English speaking countries do not live in tight knit communities where people depend on each other to survive. As a consequence, unlike most of our ancestors we can afford not to be too invested in the idea of community. When things go wrong, we can just move on to another space. What this overlooks of course is the deep feeling of unrootedness and un-belonging that comes from cha...

This an intense story; dark, violent and yet often funny in a twisted sort of way. The author has a brilliant way with words, with lots of neat and insightful turns of phrase that made me chuckle as I went along. The story is utterly engaging. The ch ...more

Shapeshifting into Higher Consciousness by Llyn Roberts
“Directing intention to alter energy and form means more than thinking we want to change. It means more than thinking about what we want to change. Like the shamans mentioned above, it requires us to engage body, heart and imagination. We must take on the qualities of what we desire or want to be.”

When I started reading The Shadow Crucible, I thought I knew what I’d got. The set-up looked like a straightforward Christian fantasy with angels, demons, Templars, and the such. I was reminded of Constantine, and Tom Sniegoski’s Fallen, only with a ...more

Irish Paganism by Morgan Daimler
“Our ancestors have a vested interest in our wellbeing and so are more easily motivated to intercede for us and also are more closely connected to us.”

“No amount of reading or listening to others can substitute for the insight that comes from doing.”
Nimue Brown, Druidry and Meditation

“The more deeply involved we are with what we do, the more power it has to affect change.”
Nimue Brown, Druidry and Meditation

“I have lost track of how many times someone has written, or said in my presence that Druidry cannot be found in books. It has to be experienced. Which makes the idea of writing a useful book about Druidry seem like a bit of a nonsense. But in much the same way, a book cannot make you a kitchen cupboard either. It can tell you about tools, materials, potential problems and show you pictures of other people’s cupboards to inspire you. Making the cupboard remains your responsibility.”
Nimue Brown, Druidry and Meditation

Topics Mentioning This Author

“I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.”
Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets

“I’m a liar and a cheat and a coward, but I will never, ever, let a friend down. Unless of course not letting them down requires honesty, fair play, or bravery.”
Mark Lawrence, Prince of Fools

“We all enter into fallow periods in our lives, times of questioning, of crisis, of not-knowing; times of depression, stagnation, terror and loss. We return from them; changed. Later we enter them again. There is no ceasing of this pattern. And it is by attempting to halt the pattern – to avoid the pain/fear/loss part of it – that we cause the greatest damage to ourselves.”
Jane Meredith, Journey to the Dark Goddess: How to Return to Your Soul

“What did our mothers think and what do we, as mothers, think of our daughters?”
Jane Meredith, Journey to the Dark Goddess: How to Return to Your Soul

“The gray witch abhors violence, hatred, and conflict as much as the next person; but she’s not afraid to face these issues using the power she possesses to right a situation and reinstate balance. The gray witch doesn’t flinch at the earthier aspects of her craft that send the fluffy bunnies running for cover, clinging to their illusion of a perfect white world.”
Amythyst Raine, The Gray Witch's Grimoire
