Harvest - A Chilling Audiobook Tale

The Harvest Trilogy is about to come to an epic and horrifying conclusion October 1st when the final book story, CENSUS, publishes on Amazon, but how did it begin? (PreOrder Census Here)

Inspired by a true event, Harvest begins in the town of Farley, Oklahoma with a gentleman named Dave Forrester. Dave is your average, hard-working guy with family and friends, a small farm he manages, and now and again, a few regrets. Feeling lonely, something strange and life-changing happens while driving home after a night out shooting pool with his friends. If Dave felt lonely before, he was about to feel a whole lot lonelier now....he awakens the next day to find that everyone in town has disappeared! (Order Harvest Here)

Harvest is available in eBook, paperback, and Audiobook (really the best way to experience this chilling tale). Check out this review from an Audible listener. Then, download your copy and enjoy this series!

"Disappearance and Reckoning."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why? Yes, I would recommend it to those who like sci-fi, supernatural thrillers, or horror. It is a solid story with a good ending.
Who was your favorite character and why?Dave's father is my favorite character, because he is hilarious. The playful banter between his parents are some my favorite scenes.
Have you listened to any of Ron Phillips’s other performances before? How does this one compare? No, this is the first. He gave a sterling performance. His steady voice lends credibility to this sci-fi tale.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you? When Dave sees the little boy hiding in the cattle lot, it is incredibly moving. That moment captures the terror of the whole book.
Any additional comments? This is a good story for this time of year (Halloween is around the corner). It is genuinely eerie. The author does a good job capturing the terror this scenario would create. She builds suspense well. She ends well. The scenes (sex and violence/gore) are not graphic, but definitely adult. This is a solid story with a good performance by the narrator. I enjoyed it.

A little Alaskan Road Talk from Cherime MacFarlane

From the author who writes the best alternative to the Outlander series, The MacGrough Clan, comes an epic adventure in the Alaskan wilderness. Road Talk is a short story addition to the fantastic box set, Anywhere the Sun Shines , from nine amazing authors who happen to be part of a larger group of cool chicks who write, the Crazy Lady Authors.

Cherime MacFarlane (pronounced like 'Jeremy') has lived a life of adventure from Scotland to Alaska, so why not write epic adventures? She was a guest on Cover 2 Cover with Jami and Michele Blogtalk Radio Sept. 17th talking about her latest story with fellow guests Holly Barbo (Sunstone) and Teri Riggs (The Eyes Die Last). Catch that here, and check out this excerpt of Road Talk below.

Road Talk ~ Life & Love in Alaska
On the dot of 8:00 am, I was at the Palmer field. James flew in, a bit hot as usual, taxied over to the truck, and got out with this guy I've never met. The look on my face must have given me away, because James immediately started with the introduction."Hey, Molly B. I want you to meet Louis. Lou, for short. He's working with us for the summer. He's been out on that crab boat Davis Lee was on."It had been four years since Davis Lee died. The crew had attended the funeral, but I don't recall much about it. I blanked everything. I'm still not good about dealing with that shit. I did not want to get into any of it. I don't have a full box of tissues with me, anyway. The guy stuck out his hand and, short of telling him to get lost, I had to shake. I didn't recall Lou at all. Then again, he isn't all that remarkable to look at. Dark hair, dark eyes, and a face that looks as if it has seen a whole lot of wind burn over the years. Wrinkles around his dark eyes and at the corners of his mouth tilted upward when he smiled and said hi. Not a real tall guy, Lou was just kind of average all the way around.I did not like this action one little bit. I really didn't know the guy, and I was going to be stuck in a vehicle with him for probably somewhere close to twenty hours."Listen, Lou, I need to talk to James here a minute." I grabbed James' arm and propelled him around the front of his Super Cub."What goes here? I don't know that guy. I'm not sure I want to be stuck in a vehicle with the man for as long as this is going to take.""Molly, I wouldn't have brought him along with if there was any other way. I've got to drop this engine off with you and head out to Dillingham. Dorcas can't hold down the fort 'cause she's down in Seattle with Mom. Frankie has a case of the stomach flu, and that leaves Angel to hold down the office.""I do not want to talk about anything. I don't need any stories about him and....""Molls, honey. The guy is pretty quiet. Since the start of summer, I've maybe heard two complete sentences out of the man. The only reason I know he crewed with Davis Lee is when I mentioned I was sending you, he knew who you were. I asked him how he knew you, and...."James shrugged. "Molls, you know I wouldn't send you out with someone I didn't trust. Since he's not the chatty type, I don't think he's going to get on your nerves. Please, Molly. I really need this engine swap, and so does the guy it's going to."

A Beltane Gift Anywhere the Sun Shines

Have you checked out the amazing box set from the Crazy Lady Authors, Anywhere the Sun Shines ?

It's a multi-author, multigenre set that includes not only my mystical contemporary romance, Waiting a Lifetime, but also a wonderful tale from my friend and fellow authoress Divine, Holly Barbo, author of The Sage Seed Chronicles , Sunstone , and her most resent release, Tendrils , an anthology of her short stories (including this one). Holly creates worlds better than anyone I know in the genre of science fiction for her novels, and anything that piques her interest for short stories.

Enjoy this excerpt from A Beltane Gift (Seriously, if you love mystery and Vikings, this is your story!)

A Beltane Gift
1291 A.D. The day was high summer with an onshore breeze ruffling the waters of Loch Sunart. Leda watched as several strong men hauled a small boat out of the water. Muscles strained as the ship resisted the pull of the ropes as if it didn’t want to leave its buoyant home. She knew it was time and turned her head to scan the progress on the moor. A boat-sized hole had been dug to rest the vessel in. Teams of men from the village maneuvered the dragon boat onto skids and fought the graceful craft up to where the low moors began. With every available hand on the ropes, the ship was lowered into the ground until only the short, carved dragon on the prow looked over the grassland to the shore.Once the small ship was nestled into the ground, more of their friends came, placing Leda’s husband’s body on a prepared berth. Items meaningful to his life were set around him in easy reach should he need them in the afterlife. This burial was a supreme honor but still the tears trickled down her lined face and dropped onto the funerary objects. As the gathered crowd paid their last respects, several foxes were heard yipping in the low hills. As one, everyone turned in the direction of the sound. There, on a cairn farther up the slope, was a family of the rust-colored creatures raising their voices to the wind. Leda smiled and made a small bow to the animals. Laughter was heard around the boat as comments were made about the tribute. In this lighter atmosphere, everyone pitched in and began to fill the craft with dirt and stones.Present Day: Scotland, Ardnamunchan PeninsulaMari stood on the hillock overlooking the archeological site. The tang of salt flavored the breeze from the sea as she tucked a recalcitrant strand of red hair behind her ear. Raising her face to the early summer sun, she closed her eyes and breathed deep. It was a beautiful place. She and her team of university students had been working the dig for two summer seasons and it was becoming more interesting every day. The old Viking boat had rotted away centuries ago, but the shape of it and the man entombed inside, under dirt and rocks, had left tantalizing bits of the glory they once were. The dig camp had just been set up three weeks ago when the weather had moderated and the land became less soggy. Tomorrow was the eve of Mayday and at the moment the sun was setting over the Ardnamunchan Peninsula bathing the low moors and grasslands with a touch of gold. As the light changed to rose, she heard a fox bark off to her right. Scanning the area, she looked for the wild creature, wondering if it was the one they had seen before. The fox was on the rise a short distance away atop a cairn said to hold the remains of the Viking Muchdragon MacRi Lochlunn.{…later in the story…}Glancing over at the dig, she could almost visualize the scene when the small ship stood proudly in its wild Viking beauty. The smoke from the fire swirled high and drifted across the keyboard of her laptop before settling on the excavation. There it collected into a grey mist roughly the size and shape of a boat. Mari rubbed her sleeve across her eyes and squinted hard into the smoky apparition…but it was gone. “Just a trick of firelight,” she muttered.A half hour later, the young woman closed the lid of her computer and laid it on the log. It was time to put out the fire and call it a day. Tomorrow they needed to squeeze a full day of work into three-quarter of the time they usually had. She reached for the bucket of sand to smother the fire and was startled by a red fox sitting just on the edge of the firelight. Her lips quivered into a grin of pleasure. Such a curious creature! The fox had been to the camp before. He was particularly fond of scraps from their sandwiches and the occasional chip. They had admired his beauty and wildness. Not trying to tame him, they were charmed by his cautious observation of the doings of the site. They called him Ruadh which was Gaelic for red-haired and wild. With a silent flick of his bushy tail, he vanished into the deep shadows before Mari could take another breath. On Mari’s last visit to the village, she had told Fergus Maclain of the fox. He’d raised a bushy eyebrow as he listened."Ach, Lass. Ye ken ta be wary. ‘Tis tha time o' Beltane an tha veil 'tween our realm an tha other is verra, verra thin. Keep me informed o' anything unusual. As elder I need ta be aware so as ta protect folks hereabout…an ye as well.”
