The next excerpt from Sunrise and a point for me on Ruby Slippered Sisterhood #amwriting #flashfiction
This week's snippet is a continuation of the revision of my flash fiction romance - Sunrise. J'dol has been ripped from his time and tossed into Sian's time - which is present time. He is injured and when Sian tries to help, he yells, "Your one of them." and races from her cottage.

Chapter 5
Sian turned to face J'dol. "I'm one of them what?" The fierce glare in his eyes threatened danger. She stepped back.Without another word, J'dol bolted from the cottage. Sian tried to follow, but he slipped into the forest and vanished among the trees."You're hurt, you know. You could get sick." She pressed her fingers to her forehead and rubbed small circles. What the hell am I doing? I'm yelling at a…I don't know what I'm yelling at.Sian wandered back to the deck. She plopped onto a deck chair, flipped open her laptop and typed…1. Man falls onto my dock. How does he fall? No low flying airplane. No tree to fall out of.Weird. Like he appeared out of thin air.2. He's injured. Unsettled. And dressed in old clothes.Looks like he should be living when there were knights and stuff.3. He said they destroyed his village.Who lives in a village????4. Man is gorgeous. JAppears out of nowhere. Dressed in old time clothes. Needs to protect his village. Crazy person. Or… A thought exploded in Sian's brain. No f'in' way!She grabbed her cellphone. Scrolling through her contacts, she pressed Kiry - yoga. The phone rang."Hi, Sian. What's up?""Need to chat with the sanest person I know. Dinner? Thai?""Sounds great! Haven't had Thai in forever. Just got home from the studio. Need to shower. Meet you…say six?""See you then." Sian rang off. She stood on the deck and gazed about the nearby forest and lake looking for any sign of J'dol. The other four cottages on the lake were eerily quiet. Those families hadn't yet arrived to spend the summer months. If only they would stay away and let me be alone. Sian snorted and turned back to the cottage. And as mom would say, if wishes were fishes. A pang of hurt gripped her heart at the thought of her mother. She missed her. Three years was a long time.A hostess seated Sian and Kiry at their table on the outdoor patio of Thum's Thai. The waiter took their drink and food orders then disappeared into the back.Sian glanced at her svelte friend. "So, how did classes go today? Are the tourists starting to take drop in classes?""Five ladies today. This drop in idea is perfect. After class, one woman, Mrs. Markenson I think, said she was going to tell everyone at the hotel about me. If this keeps up for the summer, I can…" Kiry talked about her hopes and plans for her yoga studio, only pausing when the waiter delivered their Thai iced teas.Sipping the creamy sweetness, Sian waited until Kiry exhausted all of her chatter. "My turn and I'm about to tell you the craziest tale you've ever heard."She paused as the waiter placed their orders of Pad Thai on the table."Mmm." Kiry inhaled the fragrance of her dinner. "Smells yummy."Between mouthfuls, Sian shared the sudden appearance of J'dol and then his unexpected bolting from her cabin.Holding a forkful of noodles, Kiry frowned. "Well, what could've frightened him off?""I have no idea. He walked into my living room. Got angry or scared and left." Sian shrugged. "It's the cottage. There's nothing there. A couch, a couple of chairs, a table. The carpet. The TV.""Is the cool painting you did at university still up on the wall? The tall green lady."Sian nodded and swallowed her mouthful."I love that painting. You ever want to sell it." Kiry waggled her eyebrows and pointed at herself.Having finished her supper, Sian wiped her mouth and placed the napkin onto the table. "Well, now I'm up to the crazy part. And this just hit me. It's because of his clothes."Kiry raised an eyebrow."Well, he isn't dressed in regular clothes. You know, blue jeans and a Tee. Uh…" Sian paused as the waiter returned to the table. "I'd like a mango sorbet for dessert. Kiry?""Sounds great. I'll have one, too." Kiry watched the waiter depart. "So how was he dressed?""Like the old days. Like Ye Olde England with an e on the end."Kiry opened her mouth to speak, but paused. "No, that won't work. The medieval festival isn't for a couple of weeks. So he's not just a lost actor."Sian pointed at Kiry. "I'd thought of that. But that's exactly what he's dressed like. He's been injured. He looks like he was in a battle. Who the hell is in a battle?"The waiter placed their desserts in front of them. Kiry stared at it for a moment then lifted her gaze to Sian. "You're not trying to tell me you think he…because that's just frickin' impossible."Sian nodded. "He's a time traveller."

Fantasy Romance - Come to Me: A Love in a Bottle Short Story by Rosalie Redd #newrelease
Book: Come to Me: A Love in a Bottle Short StoryGenre: Fantasy romanceRelease date: Feb 3, 2016
Blurb:
A Lemurian god’s love potion falls through a portal and lands in Portland, Oregon’s Forest Park. Once discovered, the alluring liquid can ignite adventure and passion, perhaps leading to a meant-to-be love for those that open it—if they're brave enough to take the risk.
Cassandra Forsyth has a secret crush on a man she believes will never notice her. Adam Harkness doesn’t feel worthy of the tall, beautiful, yet shy, Cassandra. When they find themselves alone on a hike in Forest Park and discover an unusual bottle with a tempting fluid inside, their true passion inflames the hidden desires tucked away in their hearts.
Excerpt:
Despite the weather prediction of sunny skies, a thin layer of high clouds still remained, shielding the sun’s rays from filtering through the trees. The dirt trail was wet from last night’s rain and rivulets of water still ran over sections of the track. Mud squished beneath her feet as Cassandra jumped over a small stream, one of many that wound its way to the river at the bottom of the small gorge. The scent of moisture and fresh earth filled her senses. As much as she tried to concentrate on anything but the sexy man in front of her, she couldn’t seem to keep her gaze off of him. The way he moved was a beautiful sight, his lithe body traversing the tree roots and rocks in the trail with ease. Mesmerized, she fantasized about what it would be like to run her hands over his broad shoulders and into his hair.To distract herself, she concentrated on the path in front of her. The puddles and small pebbles that dotted the trail helped her focus. A banana slug hugging the edge of a rock caught her attention, and she curled her lip in disgust.Umpf. She bumped into him, unaware that he’d stopped. Her body molded to his backside and a whiff of his recent shower still lingered on his skin, infiltrating her senses. His hand gripped her thigh, steadying her, but he didn’t turn around. His masculine strength and his unique scent warmed her on the inside.“Look.” His voice was a low whisper. She followed his line of sight. Just a few yards away, a doe was partially hidden behind a fir tree. The forest shadows and her natural coloring helped the deer blend in with the surroundings. She stared at the human couple, her eyes wary.“Those muscles…the power and speed. She’s beautiful, don’t you think?” He didn’t pull away from her as Cassandra expected, but instead, tightened his grip on her thigh. The closeness to him reminded her of their status as “just friends.” She stepped away, and a part of her cried out from the loss of contact. The doe disappeared into the deepening forest.“You like deer, I assume.” She wanted to keep the topic on neutral ground and not mention how much she enjoyed his touch, his scent, the feel of his body pressed against hers.“And you don’t?” The small lines around his eyes creased from his amusement. “Of course, I do. What’s not to like about deer?” He had her all flustered. Her body temperature rose. A sense of confinement overwhelmed her, so she yanked on the coat zipper. Cold air permeated her thin tank top, cooling her down. The freedom was a welcome relief. For so much of her life, she’d kept everything bottled up inside, afraid to take chances, afraid to let loose her innermost wants and desires. Adam pushed those buttons. Part of her feared him for that, another part longed to explore those feelings—with him.

Robert's friends arrive to help with the challenge on Weekend Writing Warriors #8Sunday
Link back to WWWFirst off -
From Dancing in Circles - NA contemporary romance.
Scene set -Last week Robert met Stephan in a challenge. Just as the fight was about to start - Robert's friends arrived
One of Robert's friends handed him a black leather jacket. On the back was a large insignia of a coiled cobra, fangs bared and dripping blood. "Now ya got your supporters and I got mine." An evil grin crossed Robert's face. "Suddenly got real even, didn't it? We can do this nice and fight fists, or...." He pulled a knife from his jacket pocket, flicked it open, examined it then closed it and returned it to his pocket.
Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.
Amazon
5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!

From Circles Interlocked - Now shut up and make love to me. My Sexy Saturday #MySexySaturday #MSS128
Welcome to the 128thweek of My Sexy Saturday.
This week’s theme: My Sexy Valentine
I don't have a Valentine story. As I mentioned yesterday on a blog hop - I'm planning on writing one - just haven't gotten there yet. But the rules at MSS is, if you can't fit the them - post anyway. So I skimmed through my books and found a passionate snippet for Valentines.
From book 2 of Circles Trilogy - Circles Interlocked
Without bothering to turn on the bedroom light Robert peeled off his mustard-covered shirt. Terry had dropped his hot dog when Adam caught the line drive. He peeled off his soda pop soaked pants. Randy hit Terry's arm and knocked his drink down Robert's front. His socks were wet from the pop running down his leg. Sighing he pulled off his underwear, wet also from one very large, very cold drink."Why don't you come to bed dressed like that?"A smile broke across Robert's face as he turned. Julie's silhouette was illuminated from the light in the bathroom. They crossed the room from opposite sides and climbed on the bed. He slid his hand up her bare back and kissed the end of her nose. "The dance studio," he said."Yes, what about it?""No, that's its name, The Dance Studio. That's what you've been calling it.""The Dance Studio." Julie smiled. "I like it. Now shut up and make love to me.""Yes ma'am."
Circles Interlocked - Having been betrayed by the man she assumed she was destined to be with forever; Julie Anderson slapped Robert Holiday in an angry ending to their brief love affair. Heartbroken that her love affair didn't end with the fairy tale Happily Ever After, Julie leaves town to pursue her dream of being a dancer. As fate has a curious sense of humor, eight years later, they wake up in bed together. Now it is up to love to fix what time cannot mend.

Victoria Adams is on the Trans Canada Romance Writers Valentine Blog Tour #TransCRW
I don't have a Valentine themed story. I'm planning on writing one - soon. So you just got there before I did. But since this is a Trans Canada group - I thought I'd post my hockey romance. My hero is a Canadian hockey player and I write in Canadian. Meaning I put the U in colour and people walk towards something with an S.Hockey is one of those things that ties this country together. Especially when we whop the world's butt and bring home World or Olympic gold.
And since the book is a romance - that's about as close as I can get to Valentines.
Excerpt from NA contemporary hockey romance - A Guy and A Girl
"Chelsea." Kendall nudged her friend in the ribs. "Is that one of your dad's guys?""Who? Him? No way. He's just a hockey wannabe. Ooh. Check the two getting out of the cab." Chelsea giggled. "I love the day before training camp starts. It's guy heaven.""Shift your eyes right." Kendall placed her finger on Chelsea's chin and pushed. "Check the butt on that one."The male object of their fantasies reached into the trunk of a cab, turned, and dropped a huge equipment bag on the ground. He shifted and pulled out a smaller duffel bag, which he slung over his shoulder. After tossing money to the driver, he hoisted the first bag onto his back and headed into the building."Oh my." Chelsea blinked. "I can just see the report on that one. Over six feet tall, weighing in at some solid heart-melting weight. This player is best known for his scoring and seduction of the coach's daughter.""Has your dad, even once in all the years he's been Vipers' coach, let you near a player?"Chelsea winked. "There's always a first time, and no time like the present." She headed towards the main entrance. "Let's go."Hooking her fingers onto the belt on Chelsea's jeans, Kendall pulled her back. "You mean in there? Your dad'll kill us if he catches us. And if he doesn't then my mom will.""Kendall, keep the vision of that guy's butt in your mind and follow me." Review -
5 stars Ok, the first half of this book was a little slow, but a lot happens. I was halfway done and saw there was a lot more book left. This is like two different books in one. If you do nothing else, keep reading! By the end of this book I had tears running down my cheeks.
It is more than a book about a hockey player and the girl he finds. Soooo much more to this book. I really liked it. The ending and the Epilogue was perfect in my eyes. Give this book a chance!!!!

TAGLINE:Can she trust the charm of an ambitious man?
BLURB: Micky Llewellyn has trusted men before—with disastrous results. Now, she’s focused on her career, her friends, and making sure she doesn’t let another charming man lie to her and break her heart. Nick Halden’s life has unfolded according to plan. He’s on track to a partnership at one of Dallas’ premier law firms, and he’s marrying a woman who has the beauty, smarts, and connections to be the perfect wife. Or he thought he was. Fate and a dead car battery throw Micky and Nick together, forcing them to question what they want. Nick’s charm makes Micky’s heart pound with desire and her gut twist with mistrust. Micky’s fire awakens a passion in Nick that flips his world upside down. With his personal and professional lives colliding in chaos, Nick has one way to make sure he gets what he wants, but it means betraying the woman he craves. In their struggle to balance love and ambition, Micky and Nick will have to decide what they want and at what cost before they lose the one thing that matters.
MEET THE HEROINE:Micky Llewellyn Age: 33 Occupation: High-tech marketing Drink of choice: Slightly dirty vodka martinis Favorite thing: The smell of a man in bed Pet peeve: Liars and cheaters Biggest weakness: Tall, dark, and handsome men with green eyes and a secret
MEET THE HERO:Nick HaldenAge: 38 Occupation: Corporate lawyer Drink of choice: Scotch whisky Favorite thing: A woman in knee-high boots — and nothing else Pet peeve: Manipulative in-laws Biggest weakness: Sexy brunettes who don’t let him get away with anything
EXCERPT:Uh-oh. Nick's demeanor shifted in front of her. She'd wandered into forbidden territory. Micky tilted her head and examined the handsome, in-control man sitting across from her.His lips pressed together in dismay. Something about his past relationship had gotten away from him. She wondered what kind of woman it would take to make a man like Nick polish off an ounce of Scotch in less than nanosecond. She'd never had that power over a man. She should let it go, but she couldn't help herself."Christmas in Paris? Must be nice. Didn't your family mind your being away?" she asked and then waited. Nick shook his head almost imperceptibly."We left after Christmas and just spent the New Year there," he replied."We?" Micky inquired."My fiancée and I," he admitted.Micky took a deep breath to settle the anger that popped up inside her. She dug her heels into the floor and pressed against the padded back of the booth."Not 'ex-fiancée?'"Nick looked away from her and sighed."She broke things off. I tried talking to her, and she wouldn't even return my phone calls. That was months ago. Then, suddenly this week, she surfaces again. We're supposed to have dinner to sort things out. I don't know," he said and shrugged."Yet, you're here with me," Micky bit out, hoping she could keep her temper in check. These men and their prevarications got her hackles up."Having a drink." A smile tilted his full lips."Don't you think it's kind of shitty to be having drinks with one woman while you're still engaged to another?""You looked upset in the elevator, and I thought it would be nice to have a friendly drink. We're going Dutch, remember? I can have female friends. What have we done that's inappropriate? Nothing." Confronted with Nick's matter-of-fact assessment of their meet-up, Micky had to admit that, for her, it wasn't nothing. And she doubted that the pull of attraction went one way. She contemplated grabbing her purse and stalking out of the bar."We've flirted," she admitted, which only served to amuse him further."Really? You seemed pretty pissed off the other night even though I'm not entirely sure why.""That's funny because the thing that pissed me off then has turned out to be true. You casually talked about being into all manners of women. So many women, so little time, I guess. Now you tell me that your called-off engagement might not be called-off. It makes me wonder if that's all some elaborate tale to keep me thinking you're available when you're not," Micky snapped, the control she had over her ire dissipating."Believe me, I'm not one to date more than one woman at a time. Most guys may say they want lots of women in their life, but trust me, I don't need the drama.""Women bring drama?""Not necessarily, but I've found that the level of crazy in a man's life rises exponentially with the number of women." He sighed and started to speak again, but Micky cut him off."I see," she said, looking around the bar for the waiter. "No, wait. I just mean that juggling women is a bad idea and a habit that I broke myself of a long time ago.""Have you? Because I don't care what you say. I've seen the way you look at me, and it is most definitely inappropriate if you're promised to someone else. Is it so hard to wrap up one relationship entirely before looking for your next conquest?"The green in Nick's eyes deepened. He leaned over the table."You're right. I'm attracted to you. I'd love nothing more than to drag you upstairs to one of the rooms in this hotel and strip those uptight business clothes off of you so that I can finally know what color your nipples are. And what they taste like."Micky dropped her gaze to the drink in front of her, unable to look Nick in the eye. The hairs on her neck rose and vibrated. His words scalded her.As infuriated as she was, she couldn't deny the twist she felt in her belly as her insides turned liquid. The thought of his mouth on her breasts with his hands roaming over her naked flesh infused her with want. She squeezed her eyes shut, only opening them when she heard Nick continue after a heated pause."But I haven't even come close to doing it. I know my situation is complicated right now, and I wouldn't start something I couldn't finish."Micky looked up at him again. He clenched and released his fists, then pulled his splayed hands slowly toward him across the tabletop. His breathing hitched. The waiter came to the table, and Micky handed him her credit card without even seeing the bill. Nick did the same. They sat in silence and waited for the bow-tied server to return with their split bill. Micky's heart kept pounding. Signing the bill and slipping her card back into her purse, Micky knew…she couldn't see him again.
AUTHOR Q&A:Why did you call your series, Thirsty Hearts? All the heroines are looking for something, longing for something. They have lost love, troubled love, problems hanging on to love. Plus, I’m a fan of cocktails, and each one has a signature drink—except for Shannon in Cherishing You. She’s a recovering addict.
What’s the first book, Charming You, about?Charming You features Micky and Nick as my heroine and hero. They meet when Nick helps her jumpstart her car, and sparks fly between them. The problem is that Nick may or may not have a fiancée—even he’s not sure at the beginning—and Micky’s last boyfriend was a total pig, so she’s gun-shy. It doesn’t help that Nick has a double agenda. He’s under pressure from his law firm to dig up information about the company where Micky works, but he’s also starting to fall for her. Micky has to get over her trust issues, but that’s hard to do with a guy who’s not being totally honest. Plus, Nick has the complication of his ex-fiancée. The question is: how can Nick untangle his personal and professional life and get to a place where he deserves Micky’s trust?
Why do Micky and Nick make a compelling couple? They have instant chemistry which makes them exciting, and underneath all the issues they have, they want the same things. They are both goal-oriented. Once they know what they want, they go after it. They just have to wind their way around to wanting the right things — especially Nick. He’s been on one track in his personal and professional life, and it takes him a while to realize that his plan is nonsense and trying to hold onto that dream or any version of it is too problematic. For Micky, she just wants a nice guy. Like a lot of women, she’s wondering why that’s so much to ask. Nick looks like that guy, and I hope the reader sees how he could be — but he has to make different choices.
What was your favorite scene to write? That’s a hard one. I like when my characters first start to be aware of their attraction to each other. So some of the flirty scenes at the beginning of the book are fun. I like creating the repartee between Micky and Nick — especially the scene where Nick gets pretty blunt with Micky about how he feels. He says something to Micky that leaves her speechless. I liked shocking her.
What was the toughest scene to write?Any sex scene — seriously, when I started writing, I didn’t realize how hard it was to write love scenes and have them be different. No one wants to read the same scene over and over again. People get enough of that in real life, right? But besides that, the big reveal scene where Micky and Nick fight. I don’t want to get too specific. I had to work at choreographing that scene to get it right.
What’s next? After taking a short break since I finished Cherishing You, I wrote a prequel to book four, called Her London Fling. That’s a novella, and then I have the book itself, Chasing You, mapped out. We’ll see what ends up happening. Sometimes you think your characters are going to do one thing, but then once you start writing, they do something else. My heroine, Alexa, is going to have two heroes to wrangle, but first she has to decide if she wants to commit at all. She has relationship-phobia. Chasing You will be out before summer.

Bit of a romantic post for a few days before Valentines. (and a smidge of editing)
Isn't it great to be in love? Julie stifled a giggle as she snuck a sideways peek at Robert. With his focus on the road, she could revel in the vision of his long lashes, framing dark coal coloured eyes. Eyes that seemed to peer right through to her heart. Her gaze traced the outline of his strong chin and mouth, which broke into an easy grin each time he saw herIt had been a crazy few weeks since he appeared in her biology class. The new kid in the school was from North Shore and to a Westlander, like herself, that wasn't good. But she'd looked past his heritage and found a compassionate and loving man hidden under the shell of a Shoresmen gang member and then somehow, they'd broken laws of chemistry, and oil and water combined to make passionate love.
Is the love of a girl from wealthy Westland and a street punk from the slums of the Shore strong enough to surpass all that life will throw at them and forge a life together? Is Julie willing to sacrifice her childhood dream of becoming a professional dancer for the man she loves? Is Robert willing to lay down his ties to the gang in order to hold onto his new found love?
Sacrifices must be made, but will they be enough?
