What genre is it anyway? Fifth stop: J.T. Wilson

The fifth stop on my Spirit Houses Lucky 13 blog tour is hosted by my good friend the inimitable J.T. Wilson, author of Cemetery Drive and Re-Vamp contributor, and sees me attempt to pigeonhole Spirit Houses…

What genre is it anyway?

As a writer I always get asked ‘what do you write?’ My default answer to that is ‘horror’, but it’s not strictly accurate. For a while I’d um and ah and hide behind the big golfing umbrella of ‘speculative fiction’ until I got fed-up explaining to people what that...

An interview with Die Booth – fourth stop: Clare Dudman

CD: Do you have any connection with snails? (or anecdotes, memorable encounters..etc.)

DB: No real connection that I can speak of, although I do remember a lot of time spent as a young child encouraging snails onto those clear plastic margarine tub lids, so I could watch how they worked from below – I had a fascination with ‘secret’ things even then! Empty margarine tubs, I hasten to add…

CD:What is your proudest moment?
DB: In writing, or just generally? I think my proudest moments are probably...

There are no bad subjects – day three: Kevin G. Bufton

So we come to day three of my Lucky 13 blog tour, to celebrate the release of Spirit Houses. I met author Kevin G. Bufton through his brilliant work with Cruentus Libri Press and we’ve since become friends (not to mention collaborators on the forthcoming Three Legged Mare project along with fellow author Gill Hoffs – watch this space!) so when Kevin asked me if I’d like to contribute some thoughts to his Writers Rant series of blog posts, I definitely couldn’t turn him down…

There are no bad s...

An interview with Die Booth – second stop: L.C. Hu

Today’s stop on the Lucky 13 blog tour is with my partner in crime and fellow Mad Doctor L.C. Hu, who you may know as the other half of the Re-Vamp editing team. L.C. interviewed me about Spirit Houses and the role of female characters in fiction…

LCH: Introduce yourself! Tell us a bit about yourself!

DB:Hello, I’m Die, I live in Chester which is a very old city in the North West of England, which might account for how much I love old things and ghosts, which are the subjects of a lot of my wri...

Old tales, old books – first stop: Jon Mayhew

This week to celebrate the release of Spirit Houses, I’m going to be taking over a lot of different blogs on my Lucky 13 blog tour. First stop is Jon Mayhew, award-winning author of creepy historical children’s tales such as Mortlock, The Demon Collector and The Bonehill Curse, all available now from Bloomsbury.

Old fashioned story, old fashioned books

My novel Spirit Houses is quite an old-fashioned tale. I intended right from the start that it should be, and I don’t just mean the fact that it...

Authors Electric: indie e-book authors share tips

I was recently honoured to be invited to join Authors Electric, a group of indie e-book authors who collectively write a blog post every day of the year. These posts range from humorous to serious, from the very personal to the broadly informative, with lots of writing and e-publishing tips and tricks along the way. I’d really recommend the site for readers and writers alike – with so many voices from across the globe, writing in so many different genres and styles, the range of subjects cove...

Second Spirit Houses book trailer and chillingly firm release date!

That’s right, kids, my second book trailer for Spirit Houses is out now – it’s what’s become known in my house as ‘the horror one’ and benefits from the excellent editing skills of Justin Owen and the amazing musicianship of Tom Wild at Foel Studio who composed and performed the brilliant original soundtrack.

I can also confirm that Spirit Houses, a perilous steampunk tale of horror, adventure and excellent Scotch, is now definitely due out on Friday 13th September 2013 – is that launch date t...

Firm-ish launch date for Spirit Houses

ImageI say firm… it’s sort of the texture of quite a robust blancmange at the moment, but I’ve decided that if I keep waiting for everything to be ‘perfect’ then I’m never going to get this book out. Things will never be perfect. There will always be something else to do. So I’m going to bite the silver bullet and declare that the launch date for this novel will be Sunday 22 September 2013 (and that I’m quaking like aforementioned dessert even having typed that out!)

Of course, it’s not as simple a...
