Every author was first a reader. My aim is to pay forward at least some small portion of the fun I've had and the discoveries I've made from reading great books, holding fast to the notion that while victors may get to write history, novelists get to write/right reality.

Just so you know what you might be getting into, my favorite five novels are:

1. Catch-22 by Joseph Heller
2. Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
3. Slaughterhouse 5 by Kurt Vonnegut
4. Little Big Man by Thomas Berger
5. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

As much as I love real, physical "meatspace" books with real paper pages ("Real tomato ketchup, Eddie?"), I have to confess that eBook publish

But the problem was, about what? Everybody has crazy "war stories" about work and as I collected my own share of scars and tall tales to go with them, business seemed a good place to start and, then, what better setting than the Sixties with all its epic zaniness. Of course, if you're going to do a story set against the back drop of the Generation Gap, then you need generations to gap, hence the Father/Son dynamic. However it measures up, In the Black was a lot of fun to write.(less)

Most of my instruction and all my check rides used various Cessna aircraft from C152s to C210 Centurions. When I lived Colorado, I belonged to a flying club that had 50 aircraft, so I got to fly the Piper and Mooney lines. Friends have shared some other fun makes & models. Recently, I've spent most of my time flying a Van's RV-7A experimental that a buddy of mine built in his garage and a Cessna Skyhawk. Here's my five all time favorites airplanes to fly: http://wp.me/pPbDg-57(less)

Matterhorn wasn’t quite up to my expectations. It seems a fairly accurate portrayal of Marine infantrymen in Vietnam, but it was long–a bit too long. And it became a bit repetitive. Lt. Mellas was an okay hero. He certainly “grew” during the story, b ...more
