Spotlight on Doris O'Connor

Please welcome Doris O'Connor, one of my fellow authors at Evernight, with a hot new release.

Doris O'Connor – Bio

Glutton for punishment would be a good description for Doris… at least that's what she hears on an almost daily basis when people find out that she has a brood of nine children, ranging from adult to newborn and lives happily in a far too small house, cluttered with children, pets, dust bunnies and one very understanding and supportive husband.  Domestic goddess she is not.

There is always something better to do after all, like working on the latest manuscript and trying not to scare the locals even more than usual by talking out loud to the voices in her head. Her sexy Alpha heroes and sassy heroines  tend to be pretty insistent to get their stories told, and you will find Doris burning the midnight oil on a regular basis. Only time to get any peace and quiet and besides, sleep is for wimps. She writes contemporary, erotic and paranormal romance.

German born, Doris now resides in the middle of a busy town in Bedfordshire/England and dreams of a nice big house by the sea, with plenty of space to run kids and dogs and let her imagination soar.

Welcome, Doris!

Thanks Lorraine and Hi, great to be here!

What first decided you on writing?

I have always spun stories from as far back as I can remember and I did a lot of writing when I was a teenager. As an adult, life intervened until a friend told me about the Mills & Boon New Voices competition back in September 2010. I entered on the spur of the moment. I literally wrote my first chapter in a day and pressed send. Not something I would recommend you do, lol. Naturally I didn't get anywhere, but I was determined to finish that ms, so I did. NaNoWriMo followed and I haven't stopped writing since.

Your books are classified in several genres…Contemporary, Paranormal, Erotic, Multiple Partners, and Shifters/Vampires. Why are you drawn to this type of story?

It's what I like to read and what the voices in my head tell me. Makes me sound like a complete loon, but really they do. ;-) I have little choice over what I write and I have long since stopped arguing with my characters. They always win!

Where do the ideas come from? (Okay, with 9 kids, I can see where you've had plenty of experience to draw on for the erotic bits, but the rest?)

LOL! I knew the kids would get in there somewhere!  Ideas mostly come to me in my sleep. I have dreamt entire scenes before now. Or I wake up with an idea in my head. Sometimes it's something I have read or seen on the telly. It could literally be anything, a snippet of an overheard conversation, a look, an open lift. I've always had an overactive imagination.

What comes first, names of H/h, location or plot?

Look above. It tends to be an idea. Sometimes the H/h pop into my head fully formed with their entire backstory, though that's rare.

Are you a plotter or pantser?

A panster through and through. I never know what's going to happen when I sit down to write and my characters always surprise me. The amount of times I have sat there and shook my head. "Oh, we're going there then, are we? Really?"

When do you find the time to write? What is your typical writing day/night?

There isn't a typical day in this house! I have to fit it round so many things, writing tends to get done whenever I get a few spare minutes. The bulk of my writing is done in the evenings when the children are asleep. Thankfully, I'm a night owl and can function on very little sleep. The weekend is another time to write. Hubby keeps the kids occupied and I disappear into my writing cave, aka my bedroom.

Though if I'm in the middle of a scene or towards the end of a ms and the characters are talking, then nothing stops me from writing. I have been known to write when I'm cooking and planning out whole scenes in my head whilst on the school run.

Everyone groans when I get 'that look' as my hubby calls it. He just rolls his eyes and gets the take out in. I do love that man!

Do you ever have trouble getting into the 'writing zone'?

Sometimes, in which case I just forget about it and read instead. Always gets my muse fired up again.

My characters 'speak' to me as I write their story. Do yours? If so, what's it like to have vampires breathing down your neck?

Speak? More like demand, argue, bully, nag and, generally speaking, give me a headache, lol. And do not talk to me about vampires! Sheesh, temperamental or what? Lucas, who readers will have met in my Paranormal romance Lure Of The Blood, nagged and nagged until I wrote his story, then promptly went into a sulk, when three domineering bear shifters popped into my head and took over. You will meet them in my upcoming release Goldie And Her Bears. When I finished their story, he completely refused to talk to me and then decided to go walk about. Kinda difficult to write a HEA when the stubborn vamp won't show up to claim his lady. Yes, I'm looking at you Lucas. You may well grin now. Keep that up and I rewrite the ending, before I submit!

Errr, sorry, forgot where I was there for a minute….

He's nagging again, see. I need to get on with editing his story, apparently!

If you had to describe yourself, what three words best suit you?

Mum, a bit mad and at times very blonde ;-)

If someone else described you, what three words would they use? *evil grin*

Loopy, Loyal and Don't talk to her first thing in the morning! (Ok, I know that's more than three words, lol)

Favorites:

Author?  Heidi Rice (have yet to read a book of hers I haven't loved) and numerous others. The list is ever growing!

Book?  Gone With The Wind

Car? Porsche 911 (in my dreams)

Color? Blue

Desktop or Laptop? Laptop. I don't even own a desktop anymore

Dessert? Anything with chocolate

Holiday? Somewhere warm

Movie? Pretty Woman

Pen or Pencil? Pen

Penis size? Oops! LOL! My hubby's ;-) Yes, he made me say that!

Shopping or Baking? Neither. I hate shopping and I need to be in the mood for baking.

Vacation Spot? Not  too fussed, as long as it's got a beach.

Here in Canada, the changing seasons would be a little different than what you'd experience in England? In fact, it's freezing cold right now. What is your favorite season? Why?

Autumn. I love the colours of Autumn and when we get an Indian summer, even better.

Do you think you'll try your hand at different genres in the future? If so, which ones?

I would love to write a YA story. One day, maybe.

What pearls of wisdom would you like to impart to aspiring writers?

Never give up. Write and write and write, find your 'voice', enjoy what you do and write some more. Find a good critique group, hone your craft. When it comes to submitting, expect rejections. They're part of the process, take them on the chin and write some more. Apply any feedback you're given and try again. Oh and write!

No one is going to write that story for you.

Too Hot to Handle recently released through Evernight Publishing. I love the cover!

Yes me too. All I was capable of saying when I got it was WOW!

What prompted you to write this story? How long did it take?

The first draft was written during the madness that was NaNoWriMo 2010. I wrote the whole thing in twenty days, and then promptly wrote book two in the series. Then started book three and ground to a halt. Lol. Other stories took priority and Too Hot To Handle has had several re-writes since that original draft. Everyone a little hotter than the one before that, as my writing evolved into the Erotic genre.

I was tossing ideas about with my eldest daughter one late evening, when I was planning what on earth I could write about for Nano. After much discussion and giggles, we settled on a name for my hero Alex Giovanni. Originally the story was going to be set in Italy and my heroine was going to be an au-pair. Then I sat outside my kid's school waiting for the fire engine to leave….

I giggled to myself, observing several of the female staff being all flirty and silly and my writer's brain went Aha! So Alex became a firefighter and my heroine Kitty became a school teacher. Then I thought to myself, let's make this interesting. What if they have history? What if his mamma doesn't like her? What if he … Well, you'll have to read it, lol.

The story took on a life of its own and I fell hopelessly in love with Alex and the whole Giovanni, hence the series.

What characteristics/personality traits make your hero and heroine memorable?

Alex is drop dead gorgeous, of course, yet a real family man. The youngest of five siblings and the only male, he is under considerable pressure to do his 'duty'. He is honorable, loyal, and very committed to his job. It gets him in hot water with his fiery Mamma. One of his sisters describes him as a big kid, he's been a bit of a playboy in the past, but what he really wants is a family. He is also very passionate and just the right side of naughty ;-)

Kitty is a fiery redhead with the temper to match. Not entirely comfortable with her sexuality, it takes Alex to coax her passionate nature out of her. Kitty is responsible, loyal and always tries to do the right thing. She doesn't entirely succeed and it drives a wedge between Alex and Kitty when he finds out she's been hiding something from him. She's no pushover and sparks fly between these two…and I'm not just talking in the bedroom.

Can you share the blurb?

When firefighter Alex Giovanni returns to his old neighborhood to fulfill family obligations, he is reunited with the woman inhabiting his dreams. The sexy siren ran out on him after one explosive night many years ago. Hiding behind her sensible clothes she portrays the perfect image of Miss Prim and Proper and Alex vows to unlock the passionate woman he remembers. Mixing business with pleasure has never been so much fun.

Kitty Jenkins' orderly life gets turned upside down when Alex walks into her school. Their passion filled night four years ago has left her with a secret that threatens to tear them apart. Giving into Alex is out of the question, regardless of how much her body craves his touch.

When secrets spill and disaster strikes, can their passion turn into love?

Excerpt?

"I wonder." Kitty's husky voice made him hard in an instant. "What would happen if I did this?"

She hitched her dress up in slow, seductive movements, undulating her hips ever so slowly, and he swallowed seeing her turn around in slow motion. She kicked off one shoe before bending down in front of him in one sinuous movement. He could just about see the top of her stockings, her pale flesh a direct contrast to the black hold-ups. She picked the discarded shoe up and, straightening, threw it playfully over her shoulder. Alex caught it with a broad grin that grew sinful when her other shoe followed, and she sashayed past him to sit down on the edge of the huge bed.

Shimmying her dress higher still, she proceeded to run one foot ever so slowly up his leg, blazing a trail of awareness, before resting it lightly on the ever-growing bulge in his trousers. Alex groaned at the contact, eliciting a very female smile, and her green eyes darkened. Her own breathing increased, and she ran her tongue over her lips repeatedly. He clenched his fists, imagining those moist lips around his cock. He felt light headed as all his blood shot into his dick, making him hard enough to pound concrete. Fuck it, she was good at this.

"Now what have we here?"

"I would love for you to find out, but you can't do that from over there."

Kitty removed her foot with infinite slowness, rubbing it along the entire length of his other leg, leaving that leg, too, on fire. She leaned forward just enough to kiss him lightly on the lips. Before he could deepen the kiss, she giggled and drew away.

"Uhuh. Not so fast. Besides you're wearing too many clothes still."

Alex raised his eyebrows at that and chuckled.

"And what are you going to do about that, my green-eyed minx?"

Kitty batted her eyelashes at him playfully. She turned sideways to undo the side zip of her dress.

"Me? Nothing at all. I'm sure a big boy like you can take care of that all by himself."

She edged away from him a bit more, swaying her hips as she did so.

"Oh dear, this seems to be stuck. Ah no, wait, there we are." And she dropped the dress off her shoulder. She left the material to slowly glide over her firm, full breasts, spilling over the top of the see-through basque she was wearing, down over her hips until it pooled around her ankles.

Alex, in the middle of shrugging out of his own shirt, growled and propelled himself forward so fast that he almost ran into her in his haste.

****

Kitty shrieked when Alex grabbed her firmly round the waist and pulled her down on his lap. He imprisoned her there with his arms. His mouth sought hers, and passion exploded between them. She ran her hands over his chest, down towards his tight abs, marveling at the strength underneath all that silky skin, whilst Alex's hands found the laces on her back. He shifted them both forward on his chair, moving Kitty so that she straddled him completely. His eyes a deep, dark blue, his hands struggled with the laces impatiently until Kitty could hear them snap. She gasped as the cool air hit her fevered skin. She wriggled herself closer, loving the friction between her soft curves and all the hard angles of his torso, and Alex groaned in her mouth, deepening his kisses. It was Kitty's turn to moan when Alex's fingers found their way underneath the flimsy G-string she was wearing, before he ripped that, too, and he found her moist folds, aching for his touch. He pushed his fingers into her wet channel in a figure of eight, and Kitty dug her fingernails into his biceps as he scraped along sensitive nerve endings and set her body alive with need.

"There are still too many fucking clothes between us!" With one swift movement Alex tipped them out of his chair and onto the bed, rolling them over in his haste to get closer to her. He landed on top of her and raised himself up on his forearms to study her face. He kissed her nose and groaned when Kitty spread her legs wide, until the hard ridge of his cock dug into her pussy. He thrust into her repeatedly with a wicked gleam in his eyes, and the delicious friction against her clitoris had Kitty push her hips up in time to his thrusts to increase the pressure she needed.

"Jeez, Kitty, you'll be the death of me. Help a man out here. I want to fuck you properly, and have you coming with my cock buried in side you, not making a mess in my trousers. Besides, how would I explain that stain to the dry cleaners?"

Alex's voice was hoarse, but his eyes twinkled in amusement; and Kitty giggled.

"Well, if you put it like that, big boy." His eyes darkened, and he groaned when she pulled down the zipper and palmed his cock. Already pre-cum gathered on its purple tip, aiding her hand's effortless slide up and down his thick girth as he hardened and swelled further in her grasp. Alex thrust into her hand, his eyes closed, the veins in his neck bulging with the effort it took to hold himself in check as his cock quivered in her fingers. She released his dick and pushed his trousers further down his lean hips. Digging her feet into the bed for leverage she pushed against him and flipped him over until she lay on top of him, her pussy sitting on his taut abdomen. Alex massaged her breasts, and Kitty leaned forward, offering her breasts to him. Alex growled and took one erect nipple into his mouth, the vibrations shooting along her body, and Kitty moaned her approval when Alex bit down. One hand on her other breast, one hand on her  hip, he moved her until her pussy slid across his cock, and they both groaned.

Kitty scooted away, and Alex swore as he raised himself up on his elbows.

"Dammit, Kitty, I want you."

Guest Post with Adonis Devereaux

Today it is my pleasure to introduce you to the Evernight writing duo of Adonis Devereaux. With two bestselling books under their belts, they are well on their way to author stardom.

Please welcome them and don't forget to leave a comment for a chance to win a free download of their latest release, Bride for the God King.

Adonis Devereux – Bio

Adonis Devereux is two people made one. He grew up in Michigan and in rural Indiana, a Midwestern boy with a passion for story. She was rootless, a Virginia native who lived in London, Paris, and Rome before her parents settled just outside Tokyo. Like him, stories burned in her.

They met in university at a poetry reading, and their love story continued into marriage, graduate school, and half a dozen children. Now he teaches at a Japanese national university, and she teaches children to invert fractions and decline Latin nouns, all while researching ancient Roman and medieval recipes for their novels.

Together, they are Adonis Devereux. They are pleased to debut their writing career with Worth His Freedom  from Evernight Publishing.

Wow, Adonis! You certainly have plenty of travel experiences to draft your stories on. What decided you on writing?

She: I always liked telling stories, making up stories in my head since I was a little girl. Writing them down was the best way to be able to revisit them in exactly the form I liked best. I started writing when I was about twelve, and I have kept writing – if only for myself – pretty much since then. As for writing about places I have been, I usually do not. I do have hope of writing a few stories set in Europe someday.

He: I haven't traveled that much, other than the fact that I live in Japan! I've been to some other places in Asia, as well, which is weird, since I never write oriental-type stories. I guess that's just too close to home. Growing up, I was always interested in stories – not necessarily writing, but storytelling. In university, that love of story turned into a love of literature, especially poetry. I wrote poetry for a while, but as I came into my thirties, I put poetry behind me and focused on prose, specifically fictional epistolary writing.

Your books are classified in several genres…Paranormal, History, Fantasy and Erotic. Why are you drawn to this type of story?

We're surprised that our novels fall into so many categories, but we guess that's because we have sprawling, complex stories that revolve around the passionate love affair of the main characters.

Where do the ideas come from?

From our shared love of story. From our quiet walks in the country where we talk about our writing. From our bed, where we not only perfect the expression of our marital love but create characters that live forever.

What comes first, names of H/h, location or plot?

Plot. Definitely plot. Without plot, there is no story.

Are you a plotter or pantser?

Plotter. Both of us. Definitely.

What is your typical writing day/night?

We write whenever the kids are quiet and not jumping on us. (We have six girls!) This means that we usually write in the evenings. On holidays, however, it can be any time.

Six girls? Wow! That sounds like a busy household. Do you ever have trouble getting into the 'writing zone'?

Only if we don't have a handle on our plot or characters. We've tried writing a novel with just a vague idea of what's going on, and we utterly failed. We need to have the entire story plotted out. Let us give an example: first, we write an overview in which all of the story arcs and characterization are hammered out. From there, we  break that overview down into chapters, fleshing out the play-by-play. Yeah, we're obsessed with plotting!

My characters 'speak' to me as I write their story. Do yours? If so, what's it like to have them breathing down your neck?

They don't talk to us, per se. Internal consistency is what is important. The characters must act in character, so sometimes they can surprise us when we're writing them.

If you had to describe yourself, what three words best suit you?

He: Me, myself, and I.

She: Catholic, wife, mother.

If someone else (other than your significant other) described you, what three words would they use? *evil grin*

She: Responsible, thoughtful, kind-hearted.

He: Self-assured, smug, obstinate. LOL

Favorites:

Author?

He: Herman Melville

She: J.R.R. Tolkien

Book?

She: The Silmarillion

He: Moby-Dick

Car?

He: Wow. I've never thought about cars in my life.

She: I don't like cars.

Color?

She: Purple.

He: Navy.

Desktop or Laptop?

Laptop.

Dessert?

She: Caramel apple oat bars.

He: Black forest pie.

Holiday?

Christmas!

Movie?

He: The Shawshank Redemption

She: The Terminator (first one)

Pen or Pencil?

She: Pencil, the kind that you shake to have the lead come out.

He: Pen.

Penis size? Oops!

He: Actually, that's a valid question!

Shopping or Baking?

He: Shopping.

She: Baking.

Vacation Spot?

She: Somewhere quiet and romantic. I like spending time with him without distractions.

He: Somewhere warm, like the beach. I hate cold!

Here in Canada, the changing seasons would be much different than what you'd experience in Japan? In fact, it's freezing cold right now. What is your favorite season? Why?

Fall. It's not too hot and not too cold, and there's something magical about the scenery in autumn.

Do you think you'll try your hand at different genres in the future? If so, which ones?

Maybe we'll try something in our real world. Worth His Freedom and Bride for the God-King are both set in our fictional fantasy world, though it's not a super magicky world.

What pearls of wisdom would you like to impart to aspiring writers?

Write only because that is what you want to do. Do not write expecting validation in any format. Then, if you do receive validation, in the form of praise or publication, it is a bonus, but it is not that for which you write.

Bride for the God-King has recently released through Evernight Publishing.

I love the cover!

What prompted you to write this story? How long did it take?

Sometimes we think we know more about our fictional world of Gilalion than this world. We know the geography, the people, the politics, religions, and languages (though we don't have a vocabulary or anything nerdy like that). So, our stories come naturally out of that world. As we said before, our characters grow out of our conversations with each other, and then we plant them in that fictional world. How long did it take to write? One month.

What characteristics/personality traits make your hero and heroine memorable?

Elemia, the heroine, is a woman who can endure no matter what happens. No matter what happens, she stays true to her word, true to her principles.

Abbas, the hero, is passionate, a man who believes in his woman when no one else does. He is poetic at heart, a lover of uncommon beauty.

Can you share the blurb? Excerpt?

Blurb:

The telepath Elemia has spent her whole life training for her chance to marry the god-king in his far-away capital, but then she meets Abbas—and everything comes apart as they fall for each other.

As a half-breed, Abbas is barely tolerated by his own people, and Elemia is cast out of her order of novices for being with him. As punishment, Elemia is to be sold in marriage to Abbas' older brother, though her mind has already joined with Abbas'. The lovers would do anything to avoid this untenable situation, but even if they escape, they will still have to deal with the god-king.

Excerpt:

Abbas laid out the pieces of clothing: first a thin, white smock, then a tight, blue bodice with laces that he laid on top. He also showed her two skirts, one slightly longer than the other. They were woven in red and blue patterns. "And, of course, your riding boots. You will find yourself ahorse more often than on foot." Abbas was thrilled that he could teach Elemia about his ways. "I'll step outside. When you've tried these on, call me back in." He did not want to go. He wanted to stay and admire the lithe body she had hidden under her robes.

"Thank you, Abbas. Yes, I will call you back in." But she did not move toward the clothes. She simply stood and gazed at him.

Abbas tore himself away, not trusting himself to study her body further, and his head spun as he closed the door behind him. Ahketh was standing there scowling at him, and Abbas's euphoria evaporated. The Ausir knight represented everything that separated him from Elemia: the Order and its absolute control over her life, and the enforced marriage to Cathal.

            "I hate you," Abbas growled.

Ahketh chuckled. "I am not too fond of you, either, half-breed. The sooner we are away from each other, the better."

Abbas brooded until he heard Elemia calling his name, more quickly than he had expected.

"What's the matter?" he said through the door.

"I need help. I am not sure what to do with this–this thing."

Abbas's gaze darted to Ahketh's face. What would the knight think of him helping Elemia with her clothes? But Ahketh did not seem to care. He was staring off into the space before him.

Abbas re-entered the room, wondering if he might find Elemia half-naked. Instead, he found her fully dressed in the shift and skirts. In her hand, she held the bodice.

"Not bad for a first try." He laughed a little louder than he felt, trying to cover his surprise. Elemia's breasts were round and full, larger than he had anticipated. He could make out little else save the slim curves of her hips. He cleared his throat, approached, and took the bodice. "This goes on before the skirts, and part of it tucks under them. May I?"

Elemia spread her arms out wide and looked wonderingly into Abbas's eyes. "Please."

Her innocence and trust both aroused Abbas to fever pitch and hardened his resolve to abuse neither. "Here, let me." Abbas reached out and loosened Elemia's skirts, untying them and letting them fall to the floor. The shift went to her knees. He admired the shape of her leg, strong and lean, as it disappeared up into her smock. But then he saw the tattoo, and the creeping ivy across her ankle brought him up short.

"The chieftain said my ivy will never bloom." Elemia must have read his thoughts, or, more likely, his disappointment was plain on his face.

Abbas took what comfort he could in that promise and continued his work. He clasped the bodice around Elemia's waist and laced it from the bottom up. He worked slowly. He wanted to take his time and enjoy the feel of her flesh beneath his hands. With each pull of the lace, Elemia's form became more defined, more visible to Abbas's appreciative eye. Elemia was slender and small, but the fullness of her breasts reminded him that she was not a child. The bodice stopped short under her bosom, leaving them covered only by the shift. As he tied off the lace at the top, his gaze traced the outline of her firm breasts. Her erect nipples were visible through the thin fabric.

"Is it too tight?" Elemia asked. "I cannot really breathe."

Abbas knew that the bodice was not too tight. "It's fine. It just takes some getting used to. You've spent your life in a flowing robe." It pleased Abbas to think that Elemia was becoming as aroused as he, for if anything was too tight, it was his breeches, straining to contain his erection. He slowly knelt and picked up the skirts, raising them around Elemia's hips, letting his hands brush against her buttocks.

Elemia sighed and reached out to tuck a stray braid back behind Abbas's ear. As he wrapped the skirts around her waist, Abbas could feel Elemia moving against him. She was reacting the way her body wanted her to, but she was ignorant of the ways of sex. He realized had she known, she would have kept a tighter rein on her physical response. Abbas smiled to himself and tied the skirts in place, looping the belts through the bodice according to Rolador fashion. He stepped away from her then to appraise her, but he made sure he kept his hands folded in front of his straining breeches. "I have never seen a lovelier chieftainess." He had never seen a lovelier woman. It still amazed him that others did not see Elemia's beauty.

"You flatter me." Elemia smoothed down the bodice. "It is kind of you to think so. You are the perfection of two races, more beautiful than either alone."

Abbas was glad to hear the voices of Volshaden and Jhaleed in the antechamber. He could not trust himself any longer in the room with Elemia, for he wished to seize her, rip the bodice from her breasts, and lick her rosy nipples. He wanted to throw her on the bed, tear off her skirts, and thrust his throbbing phallus into her. He knew that her body would accept him; surely it had already prepared itself. She would wrap her legs around his hips and pull him in deeper, all the while devouring his mouth with her own.

"They are calling us." Elemia brought Abbas back to reality.

New Release! Trouble Brewing in Thunder Creek.

I need to pinch myself!

I am truly amazed at the success of my Thunder Creek Ranch series. The support has been wonderful. From publisher, editors, other authors, friends, critique partners, readers and reviewers…I LOVE you all. Many of you have helped promote me along the way by hosting me on blog tours, sharing my posts, voting at TBR, and, of course, by purchasing my books. Zakia and the Cowboy wouldn't be in the running for Book of the Year, 2011, if this wasn't so. Thank you!

It's thrilling to know that my writing entertains so many. Trouble Brewing in Thunder Creek is my 3rd Book in the Thunder Creek Ranch series. Your enthusiasm has kept my fingers fairly flying over the keyboard since Zakia's release on October, 2011. Now, only 3 months and 1 day later, Book 3 has been released.

Book 4, A Cowgirl's Pride, is with my critique partners and will be submitted soon. My question to you as I begin Book 5, Cameron's Quest, is this: Do I end it here or keep going?

My mind is constantly churning up more ideas as I've come to know and love these characters. At this point, I could easily make it a 10 book series. What do you think?

Now, seeing as this is release day for Trouble Brewing in Thunder Creek, here's a bit of advance info to steam you up and whet your appetite for more. :-)

Blurb:

Lucas Manning, Sr. is married to Winnie, Roy Grayson's mother. Trouble ensues from the moment authorities arrest her son for stalking and terrorizing Lucas' daughter-in-law. Winnie feels guilty and withdraws from the Manning family. Suddenly a threatening phone call disturbs their lives even more as Winnie becomes a target. Can Lucas convince her of her worthiness and save their marriage? Or will danger and loyalty to her son drive a further wedge between them?

Excerpt:

She crossed the room to switch on the bedside light, turn down the covers, and close the drapes, creating a cozy feel to the room. He took off his shirt and held his arms open wide. She rushed into them.

"Hold me, Lucas. Don't ever let me go."

"Gladly, luv. I don't ever want to be without you."

He kissed her then, a kiss of love, of comfort. His hands splayed across her backside as he held her to him and, as always happened with her in his arms, his cock reacted to her nearness, springing to life with a force of its own.

Her hands were soft against his chest, caressing his skin and exciting his small male nipples. The kiss became passionate, demanding, their tongues dancing together to a tune only they could hear. His body heated up, and his dick throbbed in protest at the confines of his tight jeans. He reached a hand to undo the belt, but hers were already there. When his erection sprang free he breathed a sigh of relief, then gasped as she took him in hand, her fingers rubbing up and down the length of him as her thumb smoothed over the top.

His hands moved to tug her blouse free of her jeans and reached around to stroke her silky, smooth skin and undo the fastening on her bra. He pulled away long enough to slip the buttons free and eased both garments down her shoulders and off, nuzzling the vein in her neck and kissing her bared shoulders.

She moaned against his ear as he cupped her full breasts, kneading and pinching lightly until the peaks stood firm. He bent forward, raising them up to his greedy mouth, hungry for a taste of her. As he nipped and suckled, her hands worked his erection feverishly, combined pleasure and pain. She started pushing at his jeans, and he did the same. Soon they stood naked in the dim light, wrapped in each other's arms as they kissed and sidestepped toward the bed.

They lay down facing each other, hands and mouths greedy for more. He reversed position and moved down her body to part her legs, eager for a taste of her honeyed essence as he burrowed face first into her curls. As concentrated as he was on giving her pleasure, he damn near exploded when he felt her lips close over his cock.

He reined in, trying to regain control, but she would have none of it. She cupped his balls, playfully bouncing and caressing them as her mouth worked its magic, while he, in turn, laved her clit, making her squirm in delight. When the first flow of juices came, he lapped them up then pulled away from her to work his way back up. She was ready for him.

Ready for more? LOL

New Release! Spotlight on Raven McAllan

Today I am pleased to introduce to you a fellow author and friend, Raven McAllan. She already has one bestselling novel under her belt, Wallflowers Don't Wilt, published by Breathless Press in October, 2011, and this month she's releasing two more. Way to go, Raven! So, join us now for her pre-launch party!

Raven McAllan – Bio

Ever since I won not one, but two, Cadbury, 'where does chocolate come from' competitions in primary school, I was convinced that one day I would write a book. Lots of books.

My parents encouraged me. My schoolteachers despaired of me. Evidently reading a story in your maths class was not acceptable. Even if you had finished the maths! Flowery. Romantic. Not factual. All leveled at me and all true. Hey, I loved weaving stories about anything and anyone.

So what happened to my grand ideas?

Life got in the way—as it often does.

A couple of truly awful M/S were sent off and duly and rightfully rejected.  I gave up on my dreams.

More years later than I'm prepared to disclose (hey, a woman has to have some secrets) I realized I'd been writing as I thought I should, not as I could.  It was the 'eureka' moment.

I dusted off my almost non-existent typing skills, and decided now was my chance. (With more than a little coercion from my lovely crit group, Up And Coming Writers) I got typing, the ideas came fast and furious, and here I am, a published author.

Married to my own hero-how cheesy is that-we live on the edge of a Scottish Forest. I write on my laptop in my study, watching the birds on the bird table, the strange big black fluffy 'I'm pretending to be a bird' cat, sitting on it and trying to convince the many real birds he is invisible; occasionally seeing deer and red squirrel moving past. I am privileged.

As a non-closet romantic, sometime neurotic, and lover of words, I so enjoy getting involved with my hero and heroines.  I hope you do too.

Welcome, Raven! What decided you on writing?

Probably eating chocolate as a kid. I won the Cadbury 'where does chocolate come from' competition two years in a row, and the prize was chocolate!

Then later? Being off work and wanting something to do, I decided to scratch the itch.

Your books are classified in several genres…Paranormal, Suspense, Urban Fantasy, Menage and Historical.  Why are you drawn to this type of story?

I have honestly no idea.  I had never read a lot of any of those genres, but I was drawn to try, I think, to write something in my style, as I could and to see if it worked. I still don't read a lot, and some of it is definitely read between my fingers!! I'm a wuss.

Where do the ideas come from?

My first book, a regency f/f/m menage, Wallflowers Don't Wilt was written as a dare from my crit group.

The next Regency, this time m/m/f  To Please A Lady, (Jan 6th)  the idea hit me in the bath, as did Taken Identity. (Jan 16th) The last is a contemporary mystery.

It seems a bath, candles, mood music, a good book and a glass of wine works wonders. Though sometimes a word or phrase will set my mind going.

What comes first, names of H/h, location or plot?

I don't think I have a usual scenario.

The  regency I'm just starting to write, ( and actually its follow up ( a contemporary) if I ever get them written, I got the ideas for them from the plantation inn I stopped at in St Kitts. So thank you Ottleys.

I hope they are happy with what transpires.

Are you a plotter or pantser?

I would love to say a plotter, I start out a plotter, but the characters take over. So a real pantster.

What is your typical writing day/night?

Early in the morning, I seem to get my best ideas. Though I write whenever I can.

Cooking dinner, drying my hair. Haven't managed it in the bath yet though.

Do you ever have trouble getting into the 'writing zone'?

Nope, not unless for some reason I haven't been able to get to the computer for several days.

That's why the mac goes on holiday with me. (I have a very understanding husband). Even if it's only a couple of hundred words a day….

My characters 'speak' to me as I write their story. Do yours? If so, what's it like to have him/her breathing down your neck?

They do and it can be darned uncomfortable. Especially when their ideas don't match mine. They usually win.

If you had to describe yourself, what three words best suit you?

obstinate, loyal, non-housewife.

If someone else described you, what three words would they use? *evil grin*

If it was my kids, I daren't put it into print. lol                                                                                                                                              Others? Ask my friends. I hope; Obstinate, loyal, non-housewife. I HATE housework, total waste of time, the dust just comes back!

I hear you on the dust!

Favorites:

Author? Miss Read; Doris O'Connor; W E Griffin

Book? Fairacre Chronicles; Scandinavian Scandal (Sven is MINE)

Car? Mazda MX5, it makes me smile every time I drive it.

Color? black (or if that isn't a color) red

Desktop or Laptop? laptop every time, it's attached to me.

Dessert? Boring; fresh fruit or gluten-free spotted dick lol

Spotted dick? Really?

Holiday? Christmas.

Movie? I don't like the cinema, sorry, hate watching movies in the dark. but I guess soppy ones like Mama Mia and The Holiday. And my all time DVD favorite Bull Durham.

Pen or Pencil? Pencil, a propelling one with a rubber (lol sorry eraser)

Penis size? Oops! A perfect fit! Check out a guy's index finger, it's supposed to be an indication!! ( and it's TRUE! lol)

Good to know! Ahem…

Shopping or Baking? MUST I? okay then.. sigh, shopping if it includes a book shop.

Vacation Spot? SUN. Halong Bay,Vietnam; Swellendam, South Africa; Ottleys Plantation Inn, St Kitts. I love the sun.

Here in Canada, the changing seasons would be much different than what you'd experience in Scotland? In fact, it's freezing cold right now. What is your favorite season? Why?

I reckon we only get one season here and that's variations of winter. Or I have known all four in an hour, and that was in June, and yes we did get snow. So I'd say, late spring here in Scotland, no midges and a bit of sun. Other than that, late spring anywhere, not the height of summer.

Do you think you'll try your hand at different genres in the future? If so, which ones?

I'm already doing it and have contracts for a series of YA shape shifter novels using a very different hat. I don't want them mixed up. Though I am trying contemporary and have two to be published.

What pearls of wisdom would you like to impart to aspiring writers?

Write as you can, not as you think you should. Grow a thick skin, there is NO way you can please everyone, and some people will rubbish what you write. Remember it is all subjective, and reading is a very personal thing.

Now for the Books:

To please A lady is releasing Jan 6th through Breathless Press.

  I love the cover!

I must admit, I've done my fair share  of drooling over it.

What prompted you to write this story? How long did it take?

I suppose once I got going it only took a couple of weeks, I get into 'the zone' and that's it. It was really because of a sentence in my first book about a cobbled street that set me thinking. And how homosexuality was illegal. I like strong heroines, who know their own mind, so it takes a strong man to be with my heroines. In this case, it took two!

What characteristics/personality traits make your hero and heroine memorable?

Humor and feistiness. And a determination to succeed. Watching each of them trying to 'win' is fun.

Can you share the blurb? Excerpt?

Sure can, and thank you.

Blurb:

When your lovers are lovers themselves, and want you to help them make the perfect triangle, what do you say? Persuade me of course!

Unconventional, and happy, Hermione is in the enviable position of having not one, but two lovers to attend to her every need. That her lovers are lovers themselves, only adds to the equation. Berry and Ran feel it's time to make all their various twosomes, into one splendid threesome. Now all they have to do is persuade Hermione!

Being men, they are too impatient to wait for her answer. Being a woman, she isn't going to be pushed, shoved or coerced into saying anything until she is good and ready. Patience is a virtue, and one her men needed to get.

Excerpt:

Taking a deep breath, Hermione straightened her attire, and then, without further volition, walked to the door indicated and boldly opened it.

What she saw, not only gave her pause for thought, an instant need to be fucked, and a view to be given such pleasure as could not be imagined, it also gave her a need to be possessed by the  occupants of the room. Then, at that moment, with no excuses accepted.

No apology would be needed. As she viewed the tableaux unfolding in front of her, her juices flowed, her cunt clenched and her clit begged for attention.

In pictorial glory, she saw her lovers entwined. No other word would suffice. Ran was spread on his back, his legs resting onBerry's shoulder. From her stance near the door, she could see hows Berry's cock was held hard inside Ran's arse, his hands nipping each nipple presented to him so proudly, and Ran's hands hard on his own cock, moving to the rhythm of the pounding inside him.

"Well, my Lords, I perceive my presence, my body, need not be in attendance for you both to achieve your release. Alas my worry you were pining, and unable to achieve satisfaction without a woman to at least voyeur you, was all for naught. I was wrong, I ascertain, so very wrong. For I perceive you both managed perfectly without me. Therefore I crave your indulgence to retire." She gathered her skirts and went to remove from the room.

Before she was able to do so, she was caught from behind. Pressed tight up against a rigid cock the throbbing hardness easily noticed through pelisse and over-gown. Whoever held her captive must have experienced great pain with such a swift uncoupling. However that was neither her problem or her worry. Unaccountably hurt, knowing not why, for she knew they were lovers well before she became part of their lives, and had she not indeed spurned them? Still however, she pulled away, facing forward lest her distress show on her face.

Composing herself, she grasped the door handle and turned.

"My Lords, you had no need to cease your amusements on my behalf. Forsooth if I so desired I would stay to watch. As I feel at this moment, my attendance is superfluous, I bid you goodnight." Proud of her composure she dropped a deep curtsy and swept out.

How she found her way home, she knew not. Her eyes were blurred, her gait uneven. So many questions. Not least why had they let her leave? Why was she feeling so bereft? It was she who had rejected their advances, nor they hers. Why should they not take their pleasure as they were so inclined?

Why not indeed, she thought fiercely as she reentered her bedchamber, and threw her pelisse unheeding towards a straight back chair, and missed. She let it lie on the floor like a discarded toy. I wanted them to realize what they were missing by their perfidy, how mistaken could a woman be?  She smiled ruefully. They were not culpable, she was.

Hermione pulled back the covers and lay down, her back to the door, and looked at the glowing embers of her fire. A bit like my arousal, she thought dismally; without being stoked, it is extinguishing, ember by ember. Angrily she brushed away a tear. If you had not behaved like a spoiled child, been complimented by their desire to show you the delights that could be yours, rather than choosing to be disgruntled, you would now be sated, as would they be. And have a chance to make an informed choice regarding your future instead of now pondering the thought, you may have ruined your chance.

Briefly she relived the delicious feeling as that hard cock had separated her buttocks and she sighed. Well, if to eat crow was the way forward, eat crow she would, given the chance. Melancholy, she closed her eyes. To dream.

Taken Identity is due to be released on January 16th through Noble Romance Publishers.

Again, what a gorgeous cover!

Thanks! I love it. I fell in love with Gray all over again.

What prompted you to write this story? How long did it take?

I got the idea when I was trying to find a pen name and realizing how many people have the same name. This got me wondering how easy it would be to 'borrow' someone's name and identity, and what the consequences could be. So, Jules and Gray were born.

It took me about six weeks to write, and I didn't write anything else at the same time. I was obsessed with this story! Then, I kept fiddling with it until a fellow crit group member threatened me with no more of her latest M/S to read if I didn't send it off.

LOL!

What characteristics/personality traits make your hero and heroine memorable?

Jules, because she won't let anyone walk over her. She's kind, helpful and funny, but in no way perfect.

Gray, because you see him mellowing. All he wants is to know what's going on! Poor Guy, he's knocked for six when he meets Jules.

They both learn from each other as they learn about each other.

 Blurb:

What do you do when someone steals your identity?

Find out why of course.

When a hot, to die for man appears on your doorstep demanding his wife, who it seems has your name and your life, you need to find out what's going on.

Gray Reynard thought he'd found his wife, instead he found Jules. Who would have been more than happy to be found by him under any other circumstances.

It seemed someone had pointed him to Jules as a red herring, and like all old fish, the whole thing stunk.

They both needed to know what was happening and why so they could move on. Would it be together or apart?

Excerpt:

"I was having a lovely dream, and he pulled me out of it before I got to tie… well before I got to the end of it anyway."

"Mm, Jules? Was I in this dream by any chance?" Gray murmured as he slowly pulled her willing body further down the bed. "Were you going to tie me up? With silk scarves? Cover my eyes? Let me Braille you while you watched and saw how I felt? You don't need to have that in a dream you know. I'm here, in the flesh."

So saying he pulled her on top of him, their bodies aligned, put his hands into hers and held them above his head.

"See? Show me Jules, show me what you want. How you want me, want us. Make me feel, make us come. Show us Jules, I'm ready."

He pushed up against her, his rigid penis rubbing across but not into her vagina. She felt him move into her, letting her test his hardness, and then slowly slither down him, still holding her hands, as she inched lower and lower. Each tiny move was accompanied with a kiss, a nip, a lick, until finally she was separate from him. Slowly she unlinked their hands. Looked at him considering, and spoke. "You're on your honor now Gray. Lift your hands to the headboard and hold onto it. Don't move. Promise? It won't be for long—I promise. But it will be worth it." Could he feel the weight of her trust in him?

"I promise."

That deserved a reward of another throbbing, erotic kiss as she took his penis into her mouth and swirled her tongue around it. She could feel him rising from the bed to give her more of him. One small hand pressed firmly on his stomach.

"Down, Gray. All things and waiting…remember? Now don't move your hands. And keep your eyes open. I want you to see what I'm doing. What you think might happen."

She stood at the bottom of the bed. She hoped Gray had no idea how aroused she truly was. Or how nervous. Something new for her, she was eager to see his reaction to what she was going to do.

She knew Gray watched her as she moved around the room, his eyes following her every move. Was he interested to see what she was collecting? Did he realize silk scarves were part of her fantasy then. And massage oils. She could see him becoming even more aroused, his penis standing up proudly, demanding attention. Jules glanced at him from beside the bedroom door.

"I won't be a minute. You'll keep your promise?" She hoped he couldn't tell if she was relieved or not when he nodded. She just bit her bottom lip, nerves stretched, and disappeared out of the room. She ran lightly down the stairs, and into the kitchen, opened the appropriate door, grabbed what she needed and retraced her steps, a covered bowl in her hands that she put onto the table at one side of the bed.

Could she gather her nerves, as the dressing gown she had put on before leaving the room slipped down her arms? He drew in a sharp breath. Could he sense her trepidation?

"What do you see, Gray?" Wow, was she amazed at her temerity?

"Tall, willowy, but with curves in all the right places, backlit by the light of that lamp, you hint of promise and to entice, everything I desire. Look."

She looked. Already, liquid was collecting at the tip of his penis proclaiming his readiness for her.

***

Damn promising!

"All I want is to pull you tight to me and thrust into your warmth, feel you tighten around me, and let go. Do you realize how much bloody restraint I'm using? I'm forcing myself to hold on to the headboard, trying to control this more than ready body." The cords on his arms were standing out, his grip on the headboard white with the intensity of his hold.

"Jules," he said urgently. "I'm dying here. For God's sake, touch me, or help me come. Please, help me."

She tucked her head to one side, considering. Finally she spoke. "No."

"No?" it was an agonizing roar.

"Not yet. If you want to come now, do it yourself. But remember you promised not to move your hands."

Gray ground his teeth. "Do you have any idea what you're asking?"

Jules smiled mischievously. "Oh, yes."

Okay, then. "Will you watch?" he asked, lowering his voice to a sensual, dark velvet sound. Her mouth moved convulsively.

"Pardon?"

"Will you watch? Me come. For you?"

She swallowed.

"Well, of course I will."

"So be it. Watch, enjoy, all this is for you."

Happy New Year!!!

2011 was a
fabulous year!

Four books released in 3 months, excellent ratings and plenty of emails from readers wanting more. As an author, I couldn't be any happier at the turn my life has taken. Thank you, Evernight Publishing, for taking a chance on me; to Emma Shortt and Dana Horbach, for your excellent editing skills; to Dara England, for creating such beautiful covers; to my readers, who continue to express their satisfaction with my books; and to my friends and family for their unending support. Love you all.

The year ended with my debut novel, Zakia and the Cowboy, being nominated for Book of the Month at the To Be Read Pile. What an honor for a newbie! Have you voted yet? http://thetbrpile.weebly.com/

On Dec. 31st I also received a 4 Star review for Thunder Creek Ranch, Book 2, Covert Mission: Undercover Cop. Stop by and comment for your chance to win a copy. http://thetbrpile.weebly.com/1/post/2011/12/review-and-contest-covert-mission-by-lorraine-nelson.html

On January 6th, Trouble Brewing in Thunder Creek, Book 3 in the series, will be released by Evernight. A great start to a new year.

Featuring Lucas Sr. and his wife Winnie, this book is different in that it features divided loyalties which cause trouble in their marriage. Come join them and read about how they overcome them to reach their HEA again.

   My Christmas releases,

   His Christmas Wish and

   Mistletoe & Mr. Hoe,

have both done well on Amazon.

Book 4, A Cowgirl's Pride, is almost ready to submit and Book 5, Cameron's Quest, is begging to be told.

On a more personal note, December 31st saw the arrival of my newest grandchild, a beautiful baby girl, Jayda. That makes four grandsons and two granddaughters for me. Yay! A terrific finale for 2011!

Now, this is the point when I should be stating my goals for 2012! LOL Other than writing, losing weight, writing, quitting smoking, and writing some more, I need to be more active…difficult to do with a knee giving out on me all the time. But I will try my best to persevere. Of course, that means time away from my computer and the characters that demand I tell their story. Hmmm. Perhaps a bit of compromise  is in order here. Oh well, I have all year to figure it out. :-)

Have a wonderful New Year! May 2012 bring you rich blessings, true friendships, abundant good health and happiness, and most of all, love.

Thank you all for being part of my life.
