New Release…Ronda Caudill
Bio…
Ronda L. Caudill grew up in the small rural town of Glade Spring, VA
and married her high school sweetheart. They have been happily married for 24 years. She has two wonderful daughters. Ronda earned her Ph.D. in Education from Capella University. She is the author of Birthright (A Nobleman Novel), and short story A Night at the Bishop House. Ronda is currently working on the sequel to Birthright entitled The Choice.
What decided you on writing?
I took a class in college called Teaching of Writing, it was then that I fell in love with writing
Your books are classified as Paranormal Romance. Why are you drawn to this type of story?
I have always been fascinated with the paranormal even as a child, so it was natural for me to be drawn to this genre.
Where do the ideas come from?
My ideas come from anything. Sometimes they come from a line in a movie, something, someone says, or even a dream.
What comes first, names of H/h, location or plot?
Typically, the characters and the location kind of coincide when I get an idea. They typically come to me hand in hand.
Are you a plotter or pantser?
Ohhh, pantser. Definitely pantser. I get an idea and just start writing. I have no idea what characters may show themselves as or where the story will go until it is written. I am a free spirit and could never be restrained to plotting.
What is your typical writing day/night?
Ideas usually come to me at night. I sleep with a notebook and pen just in case. I write when I am inspired. When inspiration hits I can write for 6 or 7 hours easily. Some days I just can’t seem to find inspiration at all so I usually don’t write on those days.
Do you ever have trouble getting into the ‘writing zone’?
Absolutely. If I just cannot seem to get inspired to write I will put on music that fits what I am writing and that seems to get me going.
My characters ‘speak’ to me as I write their story. Do yours? If so, what’s it like to have him/her breathing down your neck?
My characters definitely speak to me. They actually write the books. I am just the conduit. Most days it’s great unless they just don’t want to stop talking, however these are the days that I get the most writing done. Sometimes though they will throw in a hitch that I am not expecting. For example, in The Choice Nila’s father gave her a special birthday present. I wasn’t at all expecting this. It was significant to the story but she just wouldn’t tell me what it was. I couldn’t figure it out so I asked my youngest daughter what it could be. She actually came up with the idea for what it should be. She must have been right on the money because Nila continued the story from there. It is such a strange feeling to feel as if someone is telling you exactly what to write. But I love it.
If you had to describe yourself, what three words best suit you?
Indecisive, scatter brained, and flighty.
If someone else described you, what three words would they use? *evil grin*
I was really honest with my description of myself so everyone else would probably agree that I am indecisive, scatter brained, and flighty.
Favorites:
Author? Hands down, Edgar Allan Poe.
Book? I can’t pin down a favorite book but my favorite story is Ligea by Poe.
Car? Rolls Royce.
Color? Black.
Desktop or Laptop? Laptop.
Dessert? Anything chocolate
Holiday? Halloween.
Movie? The Changeling with George C. Scott. It was so frightening even for an older movie. The great thing about it was that it never really showed anything scary, it was what you didn’t see that made it so terrifying.
Pen or Pencil? Pen.
Shopping or Baking? Definitely shopping.
Vacation Spot? I really love New Orleans.
Here in Canada, the changing seasons would be much different than what you’d experience in Virginia? In fact, it’s freezing cold here right now. What is your favorite season? Why?
My favorite season would have to be the fall. I love it when the leaves change colors and the days get just a little cooler. And of course my favorite holiday is in the fall.
Do you think you’ll try your hand at different genres in the future? If so, which ones?
I will probably try different age groups but won’t stray far from the paranormal. I am currently working on a book that is geared toward 12 and up. It is a fantasy book. I hope to have it published by summer 2013.
What pearls of wisdom would you like to impart to aspiring writers?
Connect with other writers, as many as possible. Writers love helping other writers. Don’t worry about bad reviews; everyone is entitled to their own opinion even if it is wrong.
After all you had the stones to write the book and put it out there; why should you care what they say. And lastly, keep writing.
And now for the book…
The Choice has recently released through Full Moon Publishing, LLC. I love the cover!
What prompted you to write this story? How long did it take?
I always keep pen and paper with me and one day while waiting on my daughter in the car rider line at school I had this urge to write. When I began to write the first scene of Birthright (A Nobleman Novel) it unfolded before my eyes. I fell in love with the characters Nila and Blake and had to see where their story went. They were persistent in getting their story out there. This led to the sequel, The Choice. It took about 10 months to write.
What characteristics/personality traits make your hero and heroine memorable?
Nila and Blake are both gentle and kind but also strong. They are protective of one another and so in love.
Can you share the blurb? Sure
Nila and Blake’s journey of love and challenges continue in The Choice. Nila is faced with many choices, one of which is the choice of mortality or immortality. She makes surprising new friends and discovers secrets about an old one. More is revealed to Nila about Blake’s past. Their love will be tested with the challenges they meet with and the secrets that are revealed.

Book Release, Kindle Freebie, & Grand Giveaway!
I’m pleased to share with you my latest release, Love Request. This one is special to me because it’s not only the first romance I penned, but it features a “hearing-impaired” heroine, like myself.
I say “hearing –impaired” because really, there’s nothing wrong with Ciara. She’s not damaged or in need of repair. She just can’t hear as well as others.
As a reader, I grew tired of all the women in romance novels being perfect. In real life, many of us have disabilities—and they are disabilities others can’t see. And worse, they are disabilities others can’t understand, and a lot of times what people don’t understand becomes something they fear…and belittle.
This is where the bullying comes in. You see, this is more than just a romance novel. Open its pages, hit that Kindle “next page” button, and find out for yourself. Learn. Be enlightened. Relate.
Want to sample it first? No problem. Available on Kindle and FREE for the next five days, is a humorous Valentine short story, Mating Instinct. You’ll find the first chapter of Love Request at the end.
Thank you, readers, for celebrating this special time with me. Happy Valentine’s Day! In honor of you, I’m giving away a print copy of Love Request, a plush dog, a lipstick for that special date, and 5 pheromone-soaked chocolate incense sticks! WARNING: Be careful if dogs are in the vicinity.
Blurb:
When Ciara Littleton finally joins Facebook to socialize without the limits her hearing impairment gives her, she looks up a childhood friend on a whim. In sending him that first message, she ignites the memories of a crush from twenty years ago. Can a simple friend request fix all that stands between them and maybe even lead to something more?
Hunter’s plate is full. A recent divorce, a pregnant sister, and now, he realizes he’s in love with a woman who lives states away. Can he overcome the boundaries of Internet romance to make this desire turn into something real, or will adversity and distance be their undoing?
This book was formerly titled A Facebook Affair and has been revised with a new ending.
Love Request has been named a LASR Best Book and is now up for vote on Best Book of 2012 Poll. You can cast a vote here. I’m so excited and so grateful!
Blurb for Mating Instinct:
This is exactly what you need!
It’s Valentine’s Day and when Ariel receives a package of incense in the mail from her Pagan friend and mentor, she isn’t sure what to make of the enclosed note. Sure, she has some issues, but who doesn’t?
When the smoke releases its magic, Ariel gets an evening of surprise humor and romance, and it is indeed exactly what she needs.

New Release!!! The Legionnaire’s Prize by Lisa Adams
Today it is my pleasure to introduce you to Lisa Adams, a long time friend and writing buddy.
Interview:
What decided you on writing, Lisa? What has your journey to publication been like?
This may sound selfish, but I needed “me” time. When I started writing about 8 years ago, I had five children that ranged from newborn twins to six years old. After the hustle and bustle of dealing with the children all day, the house, the chores, and school full time to finish my Bachelor’s, I was in dire need of release. My writing was that release.
I started with short stories, mostly MG or YA because that age group was what my degree would center around. It wasn’t until about six years ago, I decided that I would try to get something published, which was a total bust. You know how they say you have to have an inch worth of rejection letters before you can get published? Well, mine ran about an inch and a quarter.
But, with every rejection, I learned something invaluable. Even if it was a standard form letter, I had learned that the rejection wasn’t toward me personally, it was something that could be fixed.
Good for you, Lisa. With 5 kids under 6years old, I’d need a release, too!
Where do the ideas for stories come from?
My stories come from people. I am an extremely social person and always have been. I love to go to restaurants or public places by myself and watch people that I don’t even know. Their moves, gestures, tendencies are all scrambled up with others to create a character that I need. Sometimes, it’s a “What If…” question that peaks my interest and I start there.
What comes first, names of H/h, location or plot?
I would have to say location or plot first. As I write a historical and contemporary, the H/h names have to fit the time period. For instance, The Legionnaire’s Prize is set in Ancient Rome. You wouldn’t have a person named Patricia living in that time period.
Are you a plotter or pantser?
I used to be a complete pantser. I sat down and typed, and whatever came out was what I worked with. I realized quickly, that those manuscripts will probably never see the light of day. Now, I still consider myself a pantser, but I create an extremely loose outline, that is less than a page, and that guides me to the place I want to go.
I do the same thing. I write up a general GMC sheet with pertinent details and start writing.
What is your typical writing day/night?
Typical? I have no routine. Last year when I was working full time, it was strictly night activity. After the kids were in bed, an hour or less, and I was exhausted. Now, I write when I want. But, I find that I still do a lot of my writing at night.
Do you ever have trouble getting into the ‘writing zone’?
Oh, YES! With my last submission, the second in my “Caledonia’s Captives” series, it took me forever to write a particular sexy scene, namely because I couldn’t decide how I wanted it to go in my head. Two days later, I figured it out and banged out the scene in a matter of an hour. Then I hit the end of my book, and had to make a major decision. Another three days of absolutely no writing, because I was too busy trying to figure out the way I wanted to go.
My characters ‘speak’ to me as I write their story. Do yours? If so, what’s it like to have him/her breathing down your neck?
I hear this is a common thing, so I don’t feel like I’m psychotic anymore…lol. I actually prefer them breathing down my neck and guiding me through their story. It’s when they stop talking to me, that I feel like I’m pulling teeth.
If you had to describe yourself, what three words best suit you?
Talkative, persistent, patient
If someone else described you, what three words would they use? *evil grin*
Talkative …lol. Helpful, Reliable
Favorites:
Author? Stephen King
Book? It by Stephen King
Car? 1958 Plymouth Fury “Christine”
Color? Orange surprisingly
Desktop or Laptop? Both! All the time, and don’t forget the tablet!
Dessert? Cheese Danish Ooh! make that a cherry cheese danish!
Holiday? Halloween!
Movie? Any disaster movie! 2012, The Day After Tomorrow, Twister, The Core
Pen or Pencil? Pen – Pilot g-2 to be specific
Penis size? Oops! Hehe… my husband’s lol
Shopping or Baking? Both. Shopping Spring and summer, Baking fall and winter
Vacation Spot? The Outer Banks of NC.
Do you think you’ll try your hand at different genres in the future? If so, which ones?
Most definitely. I’m already working on several contemporaries, a paranormal, and a “fairy tale-fantasy”
What’s next for you? Anything else in the works?
Well, I’m starting book 3 of the “Caledonia’s Captives” series and we’ll get to catch up with Abagail and Decimus at least twice more during the series. I’m pushing a pitch to a big name publisher this week, and I have several other novellas to finish. It will be a busy year. I’ve set my goals high, so I could imitate an awesome writer friend of mine …
Goals are good!
What pearls of wisdom would you like to impart to aspiring writers?
Don’t give up! It took me seven years to get published, and a slew of stories. But I now am writing a series for Breathless Press, have another single title coming out this year from Decadent Publishing, and am ready to roll.
Secondly, WRITE! Following people, reading, branding yourself on your facebook page, twitter, or blog, doesn’t help you if you’re not writing a story to market.
The Legionnaire’s Prize has recently released through Breathless Press. I love the cover!
What prompted you to write this story?
I am a history nerd. I won’t deny it. I absolutely love History and loved teaching it. I taught Ancient History through Medieval Times, for 5 years and was engrossed in the time period. The location was first, then the characters stepped out of a building one day, and started telling me their story.
How long did it take?
It took me 13 days to write, an hour or two a night. It just came so fast, I knew I had to keep up or lose it.
What characteristics/personality traits make your hero and heroine memorable?
Decimus is a rugged warrior, but with a tortured past. He wasn’t born a Roman; he was made. He has an emotional side that is uncharacteristic of most people’s views of a Roman soldier. Abagail is a feisty, outspoken woman and a survivalist. She’s not the typical meek woman you would think of from that time period.
Blurb:
Decimus wasn’t born a Roman and doesn’t intend to stay one, but leaving is complicated…especially with a new wife in tow.
Abagail Haber loses her nomadic family and her freedom when a Roman Legion destroys her tribe. Contemplating the possibilities of her future as a slave to the Emperor seems bleak. But when the Emperor marries her to the man who trampled in and conquered her village, Abagail can think of nothing but escaping. Then night falls, and visions of the muscled Legionnaire haunt her dreams.
Decimus Cassian wasn’t born a Roman; he was made. After 20 years of life under a Roman Emperor, he is ready to run. But the Emperor has destroyed all his carefree plans by marrying him to his prisoner. How can he convince her that he can be trusted? And how will he ever be able to concentrate on escape when he can’t think of anything else but her?
Excerpt:
Decimus cradled her again, closer and tighter. He didn’t want it to end, but control was not an option that he had the luxury of any more. He rubbed his hand against her back, gliding softly up and down again. She arched her body into him and he could feel her breasts crushing against his chest. She radiated a sweet smell, and he was reminded again of his true home.
Decimus closed his eyes and tried to drown out his subconscious that was ridiculing him for taking part in such an indecent act. It frowned at him and scoffed, showing its disappointment. In the back of his mind, it steadily tapped its foot, trying to make him feel guilty for taking advantage of this poor enslaved creature. However, with the gentle breeze blowing, her scent consumed his mind. The feral man within came to his aid, arguing heavily with his subconscious and ultimately defeating it.
He slipped his hand down past her rounded backside, feeling its fullness and warmth. Working his way back up her leg, he slid her robe to the side and allowed his hand to push under her tunic, stroking her bottom, and pulling it forward into him. A moan escaped her lips and Decimus froze, fearing her reaction if she awoke. This was wrong and he knew it. He chastised himself for his savage ways.
Within moments, her breathing became regular again. Her body was warm and welcoming. He breathed her in, taking joy in this simple action. The battle within him still raged, unexpectedly rekindled by the threat of her waking. This was his wife. He should take her—now. That was what a woman was supposed to be for. Wasn’t it? His body screamed yes, but his mind warned him that this woman was something more.
Love the excerpt! This is going in my TBR pile.

Writing ups and downs
Wow! The New Year has started off with a bang. So far, I’ve received two rejections, one revise and resub, and one acceptance. It sure keeps you on your toes. LOL
I’ve learned the hard way that what doesn’t work for one publisher can and will work for another. Luckily, perseverance is one of my strong points.
One says too much dialogue, another says not enough. One says my hero is too strong, another says he’s not strong enough. You know what I say? I write what I write the way it feels right to me. Give me a contract and an editor to work with, and I just might see things your way.
It’s not that I’m hard to get along with. Those who know me tell me I’m easy…to work with at least.
But when you put your heart and soul into a novel, it’s difficult to make changes. Now this revise and resub is from Harlequin American. The editor gave me some great feedback to work with, info specific to my novel, Suited to be a Cowboy, not a general “this _?__ doesn’t work for me” type of thing. So yes, I’m working furiously to ‘get it right.’ This is the closest I’ve gotten to being published with them, and you can bet your bottom dollar that I’ll make this story the best I can.
At the same time, I’m working on Cameron’s Quest, Book 5 in my Thunder Creek Ranch series. I know. It’s late. But Cam has been giving me a bit of a problem and I’ve had to set it aside several times to fulfill other obligations. LOL Add to Cam’s story a fiery Irish redhead, well, sparks fly and life does get interesting. This is a story of second chances, of a lost love found, family values, bonding…and murder. Anyone who’s visited Thunder Creek is aware of the Manning family and how protective they are of those they love. Cam’s story is the same in that respect, but oh, so very different.
My Nano project for 2011 was Benjamin, the first in my Hudson Ranch Trilogy for which my sister, Sharon Wilson-Dupuis, is drawing the covers. That’s right, folks. I
will have superb, original covert art for my Hudson boys. Here’s a quick mock-up we did to give you an idea. See the minute detail she puts into her work? I couldn’t draw a straight line with a ruler glued to the page, but then, she doesn’t have the imagination I do for crafting stories either. It’s a win, win situation for both of us and something we’ve always said we would do from the time we were kids.
Now, I have a question for you…
All right, 2 questions…
The Hudson brothers, Benjamin, Gabriel, and Nathan, inherit a ranch from their estranged father. Would you be interested in hearing the father’s tale? Would you like to know up front exactly why Zackariah Hudson finally located his sons? The trilogy novels (as ebooks) will be priced at $3.99 each or thereabouts, according to word count, but Zackariah’s story would be a prologue of sorts, which we would release first. It would be of novella length, 5-10,000 words, and available in ebook form for 99 cents. We will also be releasing the Hudson Ranch series in print. The original cover art alone makes them keepers, but I’m hoping you’ll enjoy these stories of romantic suspense enough to want to read them again and again.
***Tentatively scheduled for Spring, 2013.***
So again, here are my questions…
Would you be interested in hearing the father’s tale?
Would you like to know up front exactly why and how Zackariah Hudson finally located his sons?
A copy of Love on the Rocks is up for grabs to one lucky commenter.
For info on this or any of my other titles, please visit my website at: http://lorrainenelson.weebly.com
Winner will be announced on January 25th.
Best of luck in the draw!
And a belated Happy New Year! to all. Hope it brings you oodles of love, happiness, good health, and prosperity.

The Tribe’s Bride by R.E. Butler
The Tribe’s Bride by R.E. Butler
Now Available
Novella: 26k Words
Self Published
Review coming soon!
Blurb: When a university job interview goes south, Carrie Wade isn’t certain that she’ll ever find work in her field of ancient Native American Culture. Knowing the only job waiting for her is waitressing at a coffee house, Carrie indulges in a post-disappointment shopping trip. An old necklace in an antique store window catches her eye and she immediately feels as if she cannot walk away without owning it. The very last thing she needs to do is squander her savings by investing in a necklace that may have, at one time, belonged to one of the tribes she studied…but she can’t help herself.
When she tries on the precious necklace at home, she passes out and wakes up in the tent of the necklace’s original owners, three Native American tribesmen from the late 1600s. Will she be able to get back home to the future or will she find out that the one place she was always meant to be was back in time as the tribe’s bride?
This novella contains m/f/m/m interaction, three handsome brothers that will do anything for each other and their woman, and a magical necklace that brings them all together.
Author Bio: R.E. Butler is midwesterner by birth, but calls the East Coast home now. She replaced the lowing of cows for the caw of seagulls and couldn’t be happier. She has two small children, a husband, and two dogs, and when she’s not busy chasing all of them around, she can be found at her computer furiously writing.
She gets her inspiration from the strangest places…a stranger at the airport, a word that sounds like it could be a great name for a character, the color of the sky at sunset. The more she sees, the more she wants to share.
Her wiccan-werebear novella series is slated to be a six story series, although as time allows there are more than enough characters to add to it. The Wolf’s Mate series has six books in it, with the potential to spin-off four different series from the secondary characters when inspiration strikes.
Her favorite things to do besides writing and reading, are cooking, watching old episodes of Law & Order, scouring for free kindle books, sneaking Ghiradelli chocolate, and people watching. Her favorite place to people watch is at the gym. People make the funniest faces when they’re concentrating!
