In 2009, Barry Finlay went up a mountain as an accountant and came down as a philanthropist. After over thirty years in various financial roles with the Canadian federal government, he took his life in a different direction and climbed Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro at age sixty with his son Chris. The climb and their fundraising efforts to help kids in Tanzania led to the award-winning book, Kilimanjaro and Beyond: A Life-Changing Journey. I was first inspired to write by a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro with my son. I found that when I returned and started making presentations about the climb, there was a lot of interest so my son and I wrote Kilimanjaro and Beyond. It was such an enjoyable experience, I just kept writing. I now have 5 published books with the last three being thrillers. (less)

Keep Climbing

Today, Facebook reminded me of a picture I posted three years ago. It was a special moment.

When our son Chris and I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2009, he mentioned he used the phrase, “Just keep swimming” from the movie Finding Nemo as motivation to reach the top. In retrospect, our climb was a sample of the challenges we all face in our lives no matter how significant they are. We have to mee...
