J.D. was born in California, grew up in Washington State, and since then has lived in New York, in Oxford and London, on the shores of Lake Constance, and surprisingly enough, South Carolina.

When she is writing, she drinks too much coffee. When she is not writing, she paints badly, hikes gently, cooks food that is almost always edible, cuddles her misbehaving pet rats, conspires with her husband, and generally makes a nuisance of herself. She also pretends to be deceptively normal.
