Andrew Van Wey was born in Palo Alto, California, spent part of his childhood in New England, and currently lives abroad where he doubts his sanity on a daily basis.

When he’s not writing he’s probably hiking, playing video games, or sleeping with the light on. He considers gelato and pizza to be a perfectly acceptable meal, and shorts to be business casual if paired with a scarf.

He lives in Northern California with his wife and their sheepdog, Daenerys.

Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed FORSAKEN. I'm at work on finishing up the third part of the Hollow Dream series, A Hollow Dream: Winter's Scream. It's a the Empire Strikes Back of the Hollow Dream series, and is dripping with horror and dark fantasy, plus enough epic adventure for fans of King's Dark Tower series. My hope is to have it out by the beginning of the summer.

I'm working on a few short stories that should be trickling out soon. Past those I'm knee deep in a novel about the hunt for a serial killer who can astrally project. It's Silence of the Lambs meets Altered States. For more information and the scoop on my latest releases, please consider signing up for my email list at: andrewvanwey.com.

Thanks for reading! :-)

Cheers!

Hiya Melanie-ann,

Thanks for the succinct question. Apologies for the long answer. I had, indeed, planned to end A HOLLOW DREAM OF SUMMER'S END on the note it hit. The story, the title, everything thematically, felt as if it supported such a grim conclusion. Aiden wanted one last adventure before school started, and that was exactly what he got. The story, to me, thematically wraps up with him coming to the grim epiphany that concludes A HOLLOW DREAM OF SUMMER'S END. If readers want to stop there, that's the story I had set out to tell.

What I hadn't planned was my attachment to Aiden, and the mythology of a further world that the ending hinted at. It was a thread I wanted to tug on, to follow. So during the rewriting process I made sure to add enough backstory to Aiden and his family so that it could be explored in the following novel(s). Plus, I wanted Aiden to fight to survive, even thought... well, survive means something quite different by the end of the first story.

I hope that answers your question.

Cheers!
