Tuesday Teaser - new book (untitled as of yet)

He didn’t like this. Not only was he outnumbered, he hadn’t told anybody what he was doing tonight. Not that there was anybody to tell.

“I’ve already told you; I don’t know what he looks like. I’ve never really seen him.”

“Call it here.”

“How in the hell am I supposed to do that? It’s not like he gave me his cell phone number.” No way was he telling them he did actually have a way. Austin gestured at the men behind him. “And what’s up with that? What’s going on?”

“I saw we take him. Bet it’ll come running then,” one of the men said from behind Austin.

“Why would you think that?” Maybe he could make them think he was only curious. “You act like I have some kind of relationship with it. I only wanted to know what the thing is. That’s all.”

“Bullshit,” Tom said. “We’ve kept an eye on you ever since your father started screaming about the monster who threatened him.”

Shit.

“You do have some kind of sick relationship with. The fact you aren’t scared says a lot. And you’re aren’t,” Tom said. He eased a knife out from behind his back. “You never asked how to get rid of it.”

Double shit. No, he hadn’t because he didn’t want to get rid of his monster. He never stopped to think how that looked.

And what was up with that knife? He’d never seen anything like it. The blade was black, but it didn’t look like any metal he’d ever seen. Hell, he wasn’t sure it was metal. And what were those knobby things on the end of it ?

Austin debated fighting the guy for the knife—he was trained—but taking on three grown ass men wouldn’t be easy. Instead slapped a hand to his chest and gasped loudly.

“Damn, man, I thought that was understood!” Maybe it was a bit overdone, but it accomplished what Austin wanted. He discreetly rubbed the pendant he wore around his neck then dropped his hand.

The arrowhead shaped pendant appeared on his dresser on his thirteenth birthday thanks to an asshole at the prep school Austin attended. The other boy liked to pick on Austin.

After his monster saw the bruises, he was furious because he hadn’t been there to help Austin when Austin needed it. Learning how to fight was the result of the bullying, which was a good thing. He had a blackbelt now.

But the damn creature had nearly drowned in guilt. The necklace showed up soon thereafter. Rubbing it somehow summoned his monster, but only if he was in trouble. Yes, he’d tried when he didn’t need help. Of course he did.

He wasn’t sure what type of stone it was, but his research hinted it was obsidian. Only problem was, there seemed to be a black swirling mass inside the stone, and nothing he’d found explained that. It was as creepy as it was fascinating.

To this day Austin didn’t know what his monster did to that boy, but the kid was pulled from school. It was believed he had a psychotic break. Something having to do with seeing a monster. Kind of like Austin’s old man.

Imagine that. Did he feel bad about that kid? Nope. Not at all. Call him heartless, he didn’t care. One less bully in the world.

“I won’t ask you again to call it.”

The two men from behind closed in on Austin. Things were about to get ugly. These guys were a threat to him and his monster. And he had summoned it into this trap, dammit.

The Harvest Young: Bound by War (The Next Generation Book 4) is out now!

Blurb: A brief moment in time can change everything.

Laken Fihk has no idea his destiny waits for him on the Unity, a Tah’Narian starship. But all it takes is one look at the incapacitated male, and Laken knows that’s his fated mate. Which is a problem, because the severely beaten, bloody, and unconscious male is the Blishue warrior named Torin. The species is considered sadistic, cruel, and without mercy—bloodthirsty monsters who kill without regard.

No one, absolutely no one, is going to be happy if Laken claims Torin as his.

Torin, member of the Blishue House of Dorntok, has found his mate and nothing will stop him from claiming Laken. So what if he has Tah’Narians doubting his honor, Ne Reynians wanting to kill him, and a battle brewing that could jeopardize all he holds dear? War has bound them together, and nothing can break them apart. He and Laken will overcome all obstacles to find a love that could last a lifetime. No matter what.

Destiny doesn’t make mistakes.

Trigger Warnings: violence, mention of past sexual abuse and rape, flashbacks

Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week is: That Mafioso Magic: A Dark Mafia Paranormal Romance (Mages & Mayhem Book 1) Nicholas Bella

Blurb:

Private eye, Adrian Elias, knows what trouble looks like and ruthless mobster and lion shifter, Sage Tamir, was just that with a capital. T. On top of smelling like heaven, the man has a face of an angel and a body made for unbridle sin. A combination that Adrian is hard to resist.

Unfortunately, someone is trying to kill Sage and they are using magic to do it. Sage usually takes these types of matters into his own hands. but this time he is out of his league. He believes the only person who can help him is the down-on-his-luck detective.. Problem is, Adrian doesn't want the case, because he feels it may be too dangerous. Never mind the volcanic-level attraction they seem to feel for each other raising the stakes.

Reader Advisory: 18 and older, adult situations and steamy romance. This book features a sarcastic P.I. and a no nonsense alpha male bad boy. They promise to keep you up reading until the last page.

(Also, book #2 is out!)

Tuesday Teaser

Okay time for another teaser! Still don't have a title for this lol. Maybe it'll come soon. Right now it's the Untitled Book.

If his monster would just sit down and talk to Austin, he wouldn’t be forced to go to back alleys and damn dives in the hopes of getting information.

Not that these meeting were ever successful. And tonight had proven to be yet another useless endeavor. The promising lead he thought he’d found was nothing more than a waste of time.

The man Austin was meeting didn’t have any answers. Hell, he had more questions about the creature than Austin did. In fact, the guy was pumping Austin for information.

When it became obvious Austin knew very little, the other man grew more and more aggressive. There was something about his attitude that unnerved Austin. He’d finally gotten enough and left the other man sitting at their table.

“Should have just stayed home,” Austin muttered, walking faster. Why the hell had he parked so far in the back? Driving home in what promised to be a doozy of a storm was going to be such fun.

It didn’t rain in San DeLain often because their climate lacked the specific ingredients necessary to produce a thunderstorm most of the time. But when things did line up just right, it was a massive pain in the ass.

Great. Just great. This was all the monster’s fault. If only Austin could get him to—Austin abruptly came to a stop as two men stepped out from behind a beat-up van. There was no one out here but him and these two guys. And they were between Austin and his car.

“Mr. Berkshire, I’m afraid I’m really going to need an answer to that question I asked you earlier. This thing that you saw, what does it look like?”

Make that three guys and him. Austin swung around to stare at the man who he’d left sitting at a table in the bar. He’d followed him? But why? Austin didn’t know anything.

That was the whole point of this meeting. At least, it had been for Austin. It apparently wasn’t for the other guy. Shit. He’d been played. The asshole did know something. That excited Austin. Now he had to get the dude to talk.

“Is your name even Tom?” Austin asked instead.

“Of course not. Only amateurs give their real names.”

Austin cringed. He just got called out over giving his real first and last name. But his face was well-known—it was plastered on the back of his books—so he wasn’t sure it mattered.

He didn’t like this. Not only was he outnumbered, he hadn’t told anybody what he was doing tonight.

Not that there was anybody to tell.

Tuesday Teaser - new untitled book

This is a teaser from the new WIP. I don't have a title for it yet.

Chapter One – Austin

Seventeen years later

HIS OLD man was nuttier than a five-pound fruitcake. That’s what his grandfather liked to say.

Austin's father had gone completely off the deep end about a week after his eighth birthday. People thought grief and alcohol were responsible for his breakdown.

It was actually the monster.

His father’s rantings about a seven-foot demon attacking him had caught the attention of the grandparents. And his family’s peers. And the media. And the whole world, pretty much. The ‘mad millionaire’ the press called his father.

They didn’t know how right they were, on several accounts.

It had taken years, and numerous lawyers, but Austin’s grandparents had eventually managed to have his father declared incompetent and carted off to a retreat—meaning a fancy place where the rich sent certain family members so they'd be out of view of the public.

They took control of his father’s realty company and all of his assets. Austin inherited everything when he turned twenty-five… and promptly sold it all.

Money was allotted to take care of dear ol’ dad, and that was fine. He didn’t care. It was worth it to keep his father away from him.

The grandparents raised him and paid for college. They had a job to do and had done it, as they liked to tell him. Once he inherited, he moved to the west coast.

He had a college degree that he never used and hated but a job he loved. Being a best-selling author with one of the top publishing companies had its perks.

His paranormal books were tremendously popular. The public couldn’t get enough of the broody vampires and sexy werewolves, and he made a good living off it.

Austin also didn’t hide the fact he believed in the paranormal. Some folks probably thought he was a little nutty himself. They were welcome to think what they wanted. He knew the truth.

Monsters existed.

Were there things that went bump in the night? Were there creatures who lurked the darkness? Were there monsters under the bed? The answer was yes to all of it.

Austin didn’t just believe; he knew for a fact something other than humans existed. He’d met something. Sort of. Okay, he actually hadn’t seenthe monster, he’d only spoken to it.

Kind of hard to see much of anything when you’re hiding in bed under the covers. Of course, he was doing that because his father was on his way upstairs to beat his ass. Again.

His monster had saved him. Literately.

From that night onward, something had watched over him. He thought it was a male. It sounded male. That distinctive deep baritone voice had reassured Austin as a kid.

Now it made him horny as hell.

Which made him madder than hell.

And he still had no idea what the hell his monster looked like or what it was. His father called it a demon but that didn’t really tell Austin anything. He didn’t believe in the concept of Heaven and Hell so the term demon was useless.

Over the years he’d caught a glimpse a time or two of something tall and dark, like his father claimed, but that was all, he’d been damn lucky to get that.

For a monster, it was ridiculously shy.

Which was infuriating. Austin had been asking the creature to show himself for years. Instead he kept getting the same old song and dance about not being ready. It made Austin do his own growling. Which, by the way, did not sound as menacing as his monsters.

Now that was a damn growl.

Lightning danced across the night sky, drawing Austin’s attention. Thunder grumbled soon thereafter. The smell of rain rode on the wind, wind that screamed around him. A storm was in the way and his dumb ass was out in the middle of it.

Bits of paper and other small trash swirled across the parking lot of the bar. Turning up the collar of his jacket, he walked faster toward his car.

If his monster would just sit down and talk to Austin, he wouldn’t be forced to go to back alleys and damn dives in the hopes of getting information.

Thursday Book Recommendation

These are books I’ve read and really enjoyed. Most of what I talk about will probably be paranormal/scifi but not always. Although it’s rare, I do read some contemporary.

This week isBad Blood (The Godbearer Book 1) by L.C. Davis, Joel Abernathy

Blurb:

The bitch is back.

It's me. I'm the bitch. And thanks to my traitorous bestie Sarah's vampire cult having a funny definition of "virgin sacrifice," I'm back from the dead rather than back from a much-needed vacation in Cancun.

Now I'm possessed by their snarky deity, and my afterlife depends on keeping it a secret from her cult of four reincarnated vampire lovers. Budget Edward—I mean Cyrus—and his way more obnoxious twin, Cameron, are at the helm. Then there's Sam, the guy I thought was my friend, who apparently takes backstabbing way too literally. And because things just couldn't get any shittier, my soon-to-be ex-boyfriend Alex is involved. Ex-alive, that is.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold, which is perfect considering the frosty new powers at my disposal, but I think I took it a little too far. When my plan goes sideways and all I get is the attention of a hunter, the cult doesn't try to kill me a second time. I fall under their unwanted protection instead, and they claim I belong to them now—body and soul. And it turns out hate—and heat, which is a whole new experience for me, just like being with a guy is a whole new experience for them—spices things up.

Are enemies with benefits a thing?

Author's note: This is the first book in an MM Vampire Romance series that follows the same main character with multiple love interests. He won't have to choose between his men to get his HEA, and there is eventual male pregnancy in this series. This book ends on a cliffhanger, but not a distressing one.
