This is one of the best fantasy novels -- one of the best NOVELS, period -- I have ever read.

Note: The author gave me an ARC of this book at my request.

A witty, weird, often absurdist fantasy heist story with a couple powerful comments on the state of the world at its core. Sover has crafted a fascinating, cartoonish fantasy world quite lite

I got the chance to read an ARC of this, and I'm thrilled to say I loved it! Trimboli and Zaloga have penned an emotional story of high Gothic fantastical weirdness; it reads like Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, and Gail Carriger got buried alive toget ...more

“When I arrived, I took detective work because it was what I knew how to do. I solve a mystery, and for a little while, I can keep the feeling at bay. The feeling that I’m lost. That I’m bad at life. That I’m a failure. But ‘at bay’ isn’t the same thing as ‘gone.”
Tyler Hayes, The Imaginary Corpse

“But we’re still Real, just like the name says. We’re still Real, and we’re here, and if we could go back to our people?” I let that hang in the air for a second. “If we could help them again, even if it’s just one more time, is there any pain, any punishment, any awful thing we wouldn’t endure to make that happen?”
Tyler Hayes, The Imaginary Corpse

“We all know we’re here for the same reason, and we all know that the last thing we want is for anyone to be lost again the way we were the first time. And because of that, I believe we can win. Because us? We’re fighters.”
Tyler Hayes, The Imaginary Corpse
