You're in the NickMom of time
The last Suburban Haiku on NickMom! Have a look while you can! Have you heard the sad news that NickMom goes off air and off line at the end of the month? I'm super bummed because I truly enjoyed working with the NickMom crew.
NickMom can even make gross cute. Like baby spit, 9 ways. I mean, look at these illustrations. What a talented bunch of professional goofballs.
Have you lost your mind over PSL? No, like really. You'd better take this NickMom quiz to find out. So click over there and click around for a bit, because this time next week it will all seem like a dream. A motherfunny dream. P.S. Thank you to Erma Bombeck's Writers' Workshop and Scary Mommy's Club Mid for having me over the other day. Quite a nice place you have there!

Heart to heart
This boy has such a good heart. Literally and figuratively, as you can read all about in this ... well, heartfelt piece on Club Mid.

The secret language of ice cream...and shoes
Alexandra Rosas gets me. When I say, "I don't know, why don't we make something out of a college ice cream parlor menu?" She says, "Yes!" and here you have it. Ever been shoe shopping with teens? Are you confused by their grunts and shrugs? Don't be. I get it. Have a look on NickMom.

And I quote
We want our sons and daughters to enjoy campus life, learn by their own successes and failures, and blossom into independent adults. We also want to know whether they are eating fruits and vegetables because what if they get constipated? Or scurvy? It’s a problem, isn’t it? As you know, I’m all about solving problems, so here’s my list of Dos and Don’ts for first time college parents, on Huffington Post Parents.
WHY are we standing in line and paying a premium for the privilege of becoming fast food workers? If you like choosing your ingredients and putting them together in the best and tastiest way, we have something for that. It’s called making dinner. It's Friday in the burbs and we are dining out, if by "dining" you mean working an assembly line. Workers unite! Join me over on BluntMoms.

My Big Man's on Campus
He's off. My oldest has left for college and I'm feeling all the feels. Lucky for you, I generally find it's better to make fun of myself rather than lie on the fainting sofa limply waving an embroidered hankie.
Over on Today Parents, you'll find my admittedly desperate idea for college drop off. What can I say? It seemed like a good idea at the time.
I'm joining the wonderful Alexandra Rosas to bring you 27 Things That Made Me Cry When I Took My Kid to College on Huffington Post Parents. There were more, but our tears made them illegible.
Finally, I'm privileged to have a piece on Brain, Child telling you about the little move that came before the big move. Spoiler: It wasn't so little after all.
This one goes along with A Little Moving on Brain, Child. You'll see.

Are you ready?
The party's over, isn't it? We're back from vacation and battening down the hatches for all the changes September brings. We're packing one son off to college, if you can believe that. Which is hard on the heart, but does have it's humorous moments. At least Today Parents thinks so.

Cautionary tale
My oldest son worked all summer, because we want him to be like a responsible adult or whatever. So we're squeezing our vacations into the last few weeks before school. Doing things in a last minute panic is also how I'm handling the pre-college Big Talk. You can see what I mean over on The Mid, where I lay out my Blurt Parenting technique. Wish me luck.

Who died and made me king, anyway?
Can I be blunt? Come find out on Blunt Moms, where I'm explaining what's wrong with America's laws and exactly how to fix them.
Speaking of America, what ever happened to the home of the brave? I'm mouthing off over on Lifetime Moms about what brave really means. Spoiler: probably not you.
