M. K. Theodoratus has been intrigued by fantasy since she discovered the Oz books. She has traveled through many fantasy worlds since then. When she's not reading about other writer's worlds, she's creating her own -- mostly that of the Far Isle Half-Elven where she explores the social and political influences of population genetics in a hybrid elf/human poplustion.

A sixth grade English assignment introduced her to story writing. The teacher asked for a short story. She got an incomplete, 25-page Nancy Drew pastiche which turned into a novel the next summer. Theodoratus has been addicted to writing stories ever after.

Next? I'm thinking I want to binge on an old favorite. Last time I did this was rereading Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson books in order. Am thinking of rereading the Midnight Crossings books of Charlaine Harris before the TV production, but don't know if that's a good idea.

Decisions. Decisions.

But, character development is another question. I've always been curious about why people act the way the do, even before I started writing. (less)

Can Writers Convey Interesting, Simple Work-a-Day Worlds?

Every writer creates a fantasy world...even those writing contemporary fiction. It all happens by how the author picks which details to illustrate the protagonist's world. Characters can't move in a vaccum. They need a stage where the action needed to move the plot forwards has to happen.

The problem? In too many books I've tried to read lately, the characters act out in front of a green screen Read more of this blog post »

Okay... I bought the hard cover at full price. First complaint. It's my own fault. I should have spent some time reading the middle of the book rather than just seeing the alternative interpretation of Pride and Prejudice at the beginning.

Okay again.

Why? I know fan fiction plays with popular author's characters. But when they are as well crafted as Mary B, they are usually fun to read.

Don't know where to post this, but will do it blindly a couple places.

Once when a friend of mine and I had dyslexic kids having problems with vowels, we did some comic book formated short vowel controlled readers. I'd like to know if anyone has an opinion on whether the idea is relavent. Please private message me.

[The now adult kids still remember the characters, and wonder if I'm going to make them availale again.]

M.K. Theodoratus A Free Offer -- No strings

Am thinking this goes to my GoodReads friends. Anyway if you'd like a free [no cover] ebook of my new release -- There Be Demons -- send me your email.

Blurb-- After demons overrun the city, Gillen, the leader of the Gargoyle Guardians, asks his commanders for reinforcements. They send four untrained teens from the projects. Not only does Britt Kelly discover that she must cope with a new high school, but demons truly exist. Will Britt learn to play by the rule book or will she doom to Gargoyles’ mission to failure?

Of course a want-to-read or review would be nice, but not necessary.
