Making the Miscellany
Before I started writing The Dragon Star (which at the time I referred to as The Pilgrim Star) I had decided that I didn’t want it to be a typical fantasy novel, and in particular that I didn’t want it to have, as so many fantasy novels do, a glossary at the end of the book.

Making the Onaia Gazetteer
When I was a young teen and first introduced to Dungeons and Dragons by a friend one of the things that attracted me were the gazetteers – guides to make believe worlds. When I started writing The Dragon Star I had only thought about including a map or two. Then as I considered the book more, I decided on a Miscellany rather than a glossary.

Change of Plans
I’ve changed my mind. It happens frequently. I’ve decided not to put the episodes of The Dragon Star up for sale in episode bundles. I’m only going to offer the full Volume 1: Episodes 1-7. I’ll still offer episodes 1-3 for free from this website, but not from Amazon.

Making the Iron Realm Map
One of the things you get with fantasy novels that you rarely find in sci-fi novels are maps. I’m not sure why this is so, but it is. Most fantasy novels, particularly those that sport the adjective ‘epic’ in their descriptions, include a map at the front of the book. I’ve often thought that it would be helpful to have more maps in sci-fi novels.

You will no doubt have noticed the name and cover switch. After some feedback from beta readers it became clear that the cover and title needed to change. I had been thinking of the story as The Pilgrim Star since before I started actually writing it and only after some feedback did I realize how poorly it served the actual novel I had written.
