What I’ve Been Watching Lately

The Magicians

I don’t know why I watch this show. I sort of enjoyed the first season, but not as much as I’d hoped. I find the characters veer between annoying to enjoyable far too often. And some never veer from annoying at all. The second season I spent a lot of time with my finger on the fast forward button.

Remembering Prince – A Year Later

It’s been a year since Prince passed away from an accidental drug overdose. It’s still hard to believe that there will never again be a new Prince song. There will be songs from the vault, but that’s not the same thing. The joy of being a Prince fan was not knowing what his next musical phase would lead him to.

Miscellany of Fragments and Artifacts

I finally got around to posting the full Miscellany of Fragments and Artefacts (A Cultural Glossary of Onaia) from The Dragon Star. 20+ entries that present selections from different aspects of different cultures in the world of The Dragon Star. Most of them tell very short stories to explain background on various topics related to the world of Onaia and The Iron Realm in particular.

What I’m Watching

The Walking Dead
It’s been over a week since season seven finale and I’m still annoyed. All the problems I had with the second half of season six and its finale were amplified in season 7. I respect that the producers and writers (especially Kirkman and Gimple) want to tell the story they think is interesting the way they think it is interesting to tell it.

Repurchasing My Childhood Part 2

Continued from the previous post. Part 2 of repurchasing my childhood.

Cosmos (show and book)

I don’t think there was any single TV show or book that influenced me as much in my teen years as Carl Sagan’s Cosmos. I remember securing the TV on Sunday night to watch the first episode, which Wikipedia tells me was on September 28, 1980, so I was almost 12.

Repurchasing My Childhood Part 1

Around about the time I decided to start indie publishing my YA sci-fi and fantasy novels back in 2012, I also slowly started repurchasing sci-fi books from my childhood that had an impact and influence on how I thought about the genre. It helped me reoccupy the mental space of my thirteen year old self – a good place to be when write books aimed at kids that age.

New Cover for The Dragon Star

The Dragon Star has a new cover. While I liked the previous cover, this one has more of a traditional fantasy feel to it. Hopefully it will have an impact on attracting people to the book.

Worldviews – From The Alchemy of World and Soul

The day job has calmed down and I am finally back to writing book two in the Realms of Shadow and Grace series (called The Heretic Temple for now). I wanted to post a blog, but my time is still tight, so I thought maybe I should post a chapter from The Alchemy of World and Soul.

From The Dragon Star Miscellany

The writing of book 2 in the Realms of Shadow and Grace series (tentatively called The Heretic Temple) is going a little more slowly than I had hoped. The day job keeps getting in the way and the episodes are tending to be longer than expected. I’m digging into episode 3 now.…
