The Celestial Blade Finally for Sale!

The Celestial Blade is finally available for sale!

The Celestial Blade is the first novel I wrote, but it took me a while to find the time to go back and edit it. It’s only available as an ebook on Amazon for the time being and will be out in print next week.

A synopsis is below:

The Celestial Blade

Aboard an enormous planet-sized starship hurtling between galaxies, thirteen-year-old Jed and his two friends, Kylla and Fallon, set out to find Jed’s missing older brother and uncover the secrets beh...

Remake Idea #1 – Superman

I’ve been thinking for a while about the redundancy factor in film and television, especially where sci-fi is concerned. Hollywood has always had an addiction to remakes (now called reboots to sound more modern I suppose). How could producers turn away from the idea of making a movie a second time if it was successful the first time. Give the story a fresh coat of paint and a few new faces and new audiences will be just as charmed as old audiences. Heck, even Hit...

What is Progress – Part 2

What Is Progress?: Or How to Tell a Hawk From a Handsaw – Part 2

(Continued from the previous post.)

In order to talk about progress, development, growth, and sustainability, it is helpful to define the terms of the discussion. But before we can talk about definitions, we need to introduce, just briefly, the idea of complexity. Complexity theory is a relatively new branch of science that looks at nonlinear adaptive systems, or complex systems. Interaction is the key to complex systems. The grea...

What Is Progress? – Part 1

My wife and I were watching a very interesting documentary the other night called Surviving Progress. It’s a fascinating film about the effects of rapidly changing technology and culture on our societies and minds. One of the more frightening things the film makes clear is that we are running 21st century software (culture) on prehistoric hardware (our brains which haven’t changed signigicantly imn 50,000 years). And how technology impacts the mismatch between culture and biology.

It reminded...

What’s Your Worldview?

(Image: EnlightenNext)

The day job is still keeping me too busy for regular blogging. Since it’s election season I thought it might fun to post a little something about worldviews. Below is a semi-essay I assembled in response to the notion that the nation not being divided into two factions (Democrat & Republican), but really being divided into at least three: Traditional, Modern, and Postmodern.

The series of questions below are based on developmental psychology as explored in Spiral Dynamics...

Three Random Thoughts

No real blog, but no excerpts from my plays either. Instead, three random thoughts:

Random Thought #1: I’ve finished the first draft of The Sword of Unmaking (The Wizard of Time – Book 2). I’m very happy with it. With revisions and editing and proofing, I can have it ready to publish this winter. Maybe February. I had hoped to be able to get it our earlier, but my new YA sci-fi novel Celestial Blade took up more time than anticipated. I found I couldn’t really work on both novels at the same t...

POP! Culture: The Future of America™ – Scenes 3 & 4

The writing on The Wizard of Time #2 is going well, but a day full writing depletes my brain of any ability to contemplate a blog post. SCENE: Three

SETTING: Typical Citizen Home

SPOUSE: Buy it. No, wait, not that one, the blue one. Yes....

POP! Culture: The Future of America™

I’m busy writing The Sword of Unmaking (The Wizard of Time Book 2) and haven’t had much time for writing blogs. Since this the height of the political season, I thought I’d post a scene or two from a political satire play I wrote back around the turn of the millennium. I wrote it while on a yearlong corporate tour around the country from Oct. 1999 Oct. 2000 and it was heavily informed by that experience.

A brief synopsis is below. If you’re interested in reading the whole script, you can find...
