Filipa Fonseca Silva was born in a small town called Barreiro, just across Lisbon, in 1979.

She graduated in Communication from Universidade Católica, but ended up in advertising, working as a copywriter until 2017.

Her debut novel, Thirty Something Nothings How We Dreamed it Would Be (2011) turned her into the first Portuguese author to reach Amazon Top100 and gave her international projection. The book was followed by The Strange Year of Vanessa M. (2013), Things a Mother Discovers (and no one talks about) and Taxi Tales (not yet available in English)

Shes an activist for the environment and womens rights, and besides writing, she loves to paint, collect shoes and eat watermelon.

“We spend our lives in such a hurry, so self-centred, that we forget the simple act of observing the life that’s simmering all around us. Looking others in the eye, seeing more than faces. Maybe that’s why we feel so lonely.”
Filipa Fonseca Silva, The Strange Year of Vanessa M.
