Unfortunately, many of the records from the first part of the 20th Century, especially TDI's records related to paranormal investigations, have disappeared or been misplaced over the years, so it's tedious work, but I'm making progress. Still hoping to have something in print by the end of the year. Wish me luck!(less)

Florence Reese

Poet and songwriter Florence Reese was born on April 12, 1900 in Union County, Tennessee. Not much of a singer herself, she nevertheless wrote one of the most influential American labor songs, scribbling the words “Which Side Are You On?” immediately after having her house ransacked by anti-union thugs in Harlan County (“Bloody Harlan”), Kentucky in 1931. She combined the words with the old Celtic Read more of this blog post »

Wonders All Around by Bruce McCandless III
"“He was never a noun. He was always a verb.” Bruce McCandless III‘s story explains his father’s role in the space program; but, more than that, it introduces readers to Bruce McCandless II as the man that he was in his daily life. Throughout this boo" Read more of this review »

"4.5*

I find it fitting I finished reading this book on July 20th, the 52nd anniversary of Apollo 11, the mission that landed man on the moon, and the one that Bruce McCandless worked as CapCom. As a bit of a space junkie, although I've sadly let that " Read more of this review »

"This was a GoodReads giveaway of a Kindle ebook.

I have always had a fascination with space exploration. Told by the son, this is a very enjoyable tribute to his family. And I even have the refrigerator magnet of Bruce in his MMU "hanging around" as I" Read more of this review »

WARNING--SPOILERS. This isn't a perfect book, but it's a pretty amazing achievement. Some things I liked: the humor; the ingenuity; the optimism; the nice twist on the whole heroic astronaut trope that we get quite late in the book. Less likable: sci ...more

Walt Whitman
“This is what you shall do; Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown or to any man or number of men, go freely with powerful uneducated persons and with the young and with the mothers of families, read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency not only in its words but in the silent lines of its lips and face and between the lashes of your eyes and in every motion and joint of your body.”
