And so it begins...
I have submitted the file to eBookIt.com. Once I have an ISBN number, I will add it to the file, re-submit, and then it's just a matter of waiting for them to get it out to Amazon, Kobo, etc.
Home stretch, everyone, we're in the home stretch.

Guess who just finished editing and formatting his manuscript?
I hope to have this thing submitted in the next couple of weeks. We're getting there! Close! Sooooo close! :)

Gettin' there! - edited
I am 1/3 of the way through my final edit. I'll be reaching out to a local publisher. Assuming he rejects the book, I'll be releasing it shortly thereafter using eBookIt.
I hope to have the final edit done this weekend or next. Then I have to format it properly for eBookIt. That will likely take another week. Then I am going to reach out to that local publisher, and wait for him. He's usually pretty fast. In short, this book will be available in the next couple of months. Unless the world ends, I will, at the very least, post it here for people to download. If the publisher later on decides to pick it up, I can just take it down.
EDITED TO CHANGE/ADD
If you read this post a week ago, you'll notice that it's changed. I had seriously considered releasing the book for free. However, I have changed my mind on that on. I won't be using Smashwords. I'm sure they're great, but eBookIt.com gives me access to Amazon.com, where a lot of my sales come from. Also, I won't be releasing it for free. I'll probably sell The Ambassador's Clerk for around $3.

Close
I have finished another editing pass. That leaves one more to go. I am aiming for either end of August or beginning of September for release.

Editing
I have received one of the editor copies of N6. I'll start working through it in the next day or so. I really want N6 up for sale soon, maybe end of July or so. I just can't bring myself to start writing N7 until then.

N6, N7, EIEIO
So, some updates.
First off, Novel #6, The Ambassador's Clerk, is still being edited. It is in the hands of two people, but it's not a quick process. While I had hoped to get this book to market by the end of May, I am now shooting for July. Yeah, sorry, but I think we can all agree that a well edited book will be more worthy of your time and money.
I always give people the example of a common typo. Instead of writing exercise , a writer mistypes (or chooses the wrong word in spell check) and ends up with exorcise . Exercise and Exorcise. Both will help you work up a sweat, but they're hardly compatible terms. I suspect you'd rather not have to deal with that when you read a book. "Wait... did he mean to say X or Y?"
Secondly, Novel #7 is well on its way, in terms of planning. This is a novel that I have been thinking about for almost fifteen years, long before I ever tried writing a novel. (I used to write plays; stage and screen.) Now I think I'm good enough to do the idea justice, without making it seem trite or boring. I hope to start writing it shortly, with the goal of it being ready for editing sometime around September.

Next step
I've completed my first cover-to-cover edit. Now two copies go out to editors. With some luck, I will have their copies back in my hands by the end of March or so. I'll do another pass myself, and then off we go to the publisher's.

Woo hoo!
It's done! The first draft of my sixth novel, The Ambassador's Clerk, is done!
Tomorrow, I'll do my usual first edit of the chapter I just finished. Then I'll take a week away from the book, to let my head clear. After that, it's edit, edit. edit.
I hope to have it available for purchase by the end of April.

Lookin' good!
I have started turning up the heat on my protagonist, and he's while we're not at the climax, we're certainly at the turning point.
