Book Spotlight: White Raven by J L Weil

WhiteRavenSynopsis:

It only took one heartbeat to change my lifeone chilling phone call in the middle of the night.

And then, as if my life didnt already suck, my dad sends my brother and me to some idyllic island for the summer to live with a grandma we never met. WTH. Naturally, I rebel. In the end, I find myself shipped off to Raven Hallowand bored to tears.

Until I get an eyeful of the mind-bendingly gorgeous Zane Hunter. The dark-hair cutie makes my pulse go bonkers, and I think, maybe this might not be so bad after all. Yet, there is something uncanny, almost supernatural about Zane, and its not just his devastating smirk. No matter how much distance I put between us, Raven Hallow isnt big enough, and the sparking tension between is undeniable. Of course, the one person I want to avoid becomes my salvation.

My past comes back to terrorize me. Someone wants me dead, and the closer I get to the truth, the more I realize my whole life is a lie. I am no longer sure what is more frighteningthe attempts on my life or the guy whose heart and soul are synchronized with mine.

About the Author:

Award-winning and Bestselling author J.L. Weil writes Teen & New Adult Paranormal Romances about spunky, smart mouth girls who always wind up in dire situations. For every sassy girl, there is an equally mouthwatering, overprotective guy. Of course there is lots of kissing. And stuff.5831854

Most of her books are for ages 16+. They usually have what she considers the good stuff – sexual content (oh yeah) and swearing. You have been warned ;)

An admitted addict to Love Pink clothes, raspberry mochas from Starbucks, (yum!) and Jensen Ackles (double yum!). She loves gushing about books and Supernatural with her readers.

Book Review: The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins

22557272Synopsis:

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. Shes even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their lifeas she sees itis perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

And then she sees something shocking. Its only a minute until the train moves on, but its enough. Now everythings changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

A compulsively readable, emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller that draws comparisons to Gone Girl, The Silent Wife, or Before I Go to Sleep, this is an electrifying debut embraced by readers across markets and categories.

My Review:

I don’t tend to stray too far from my paranormal fancies. So to read a thriller, was quite a big step for me. It was recommended to me by a couple of people, and I saw that it was getting a lot of ‘face time’ on the best seller list – so I thought, bugger it, I’m going to give it a go! I’m so glad I did. It was one of those books that I simply couldn’t put down – and although I know that is a massive cliche, and I personally hate cliches, but it’s true.

From a writer’s perspective, it was very cleverly written from three people’s perspectives at different times through the story, a kind of tapestry to show the whole picture. The characters were deep, well thought through, yet completely normal people – so it made the plot that much more believable. I loved the pace of the book, and it actually did something to me, that any other book hasn’t done (so far) I can’t say what it is, for fear of ruining it for you, but you just have to read it and post a comment to me and let me know if you got it too…

The front cover is clever, as the train has a massive part to play in the story – although I’m guessing that thrillers are not as open to fun and vivid covers that paranormal books are.

Overall, I’d give The Girl on the Train, 5 out of 5 stars – a perfect English thriller that captures your attention and won’t let it go – be warned, if you start this book, you’d better have the time to give it!
