Shelia Bolt Rudesill is an accidental writer. For forty-five years as a pediatric and NICU nurse, she dedicated her professional life to the wellbeing of children and acquired a tremendous empathy for those burdened with unreasonable hardships. Her writing career began at the age of fifty when her cousin, Dottie, encouraged her to chronical the poignant experiences she encountered in her professional and social life. “Just about everyone I know,” Shelia says, “provides a situation or trait for a character in one of my novels.”

In addition to reading and writing, Shelia admits to a weakness for dry martinis, evening gowns, and dancing with cats.

“I have to keep my mouth shut about Nam though. All of these guys want to believe they were fighting an honorable war, and that their conduct deserves respect. They want the public to treat them like they’re heroes—like the WWII vets were.” “Instead, smart ass, pampered kids call them names and throw dog shit at them.”
Bud Rudesill, Hurricane Ginger

“Hurricane Ginger.” “I’ll outlast that wimpy storm by a lifetime.”

“The Marine Corps is your family too. You may not have a mother here, but you have a shit pile of fathers, uncles, and brothers.”
Bud Rudesill, Hurricane Ginger

“A Marine likes a good fight and respects a good fighter. You’ve got yourself one fine Marine for an escort and the whole Marine Corps behind you.”
Bud Rudesill, Hurricane Ginger

“She still looked like a force to be reckoned with. Her short stature made her look cute and innocent, but I knew that was an illusion. She had fire in her boiler. Maybe it was misdirected, but I liked that fire.”
