My Fitbit and the Sitting Disease
I like gimmicks. I need external motivation. And that’s why the Fitbit is INGENIOUS and perfect for me.
Let’s take a step back:
Do you know that medical experts talk about something called the “sitting disease”? It’s become a real thing and though it sounds funny, it’s really kind of scary: More info about the dreaded “Sitting Disease”
I had first heard about this when one of our chaptermates who is a nurse gave a presentation. It was a real eye-opener and I told her she needed to do a presentat...

Audiobook-An Interview with my narrator
Today, I’m interviewing, Pam Doughtery, my fantastic ACX audiobook producer—BTW producer is what you call the narrator who performs audiobooks. To date, she’s recorded two of my books, Perfect Summer and Place Your Betts, and is working on another book of mine, Getting Lucky.
Pam Doughtery is a very talented actor with many stage and screen credits. I was lucky enough to find her through ACX and she has taken my novels to a whole new level. I’m huge audiobook fan, so it was a huge moment for m...

“Hour a Day” Challenge Mid-Way Check-In: Want to Join?
At the start of September, I got on the blog to challenge myself publicly: to write for one hour every day this month, no excuses (see the post and my reasons here). I also asked if anyone else wanted to join me. This is a super-fast drive-by check-in, and an invitation to anyone who wants to jump in to join for the next two weeks. At the moment, hearty band of one dozen of us has taken on the challenge. I’m not sure if everybody’s stayed on course, but I know at least several have. We’ve all...

When the Words Get in the Way
I spent more than a little time at 2014 RWA National in my hotel room, writing. Let me correct that: I was struggling. I was working on this love scene that takes place at about the halfway point of my WIP, ENTHRALL ME. For some reason, Tia and Wyland’s bodies were doing all the right, sexy things, but the scene was flat. Dead.
Over some awesomely sleazy Chinese take-out, I realized I’d completely lost track of Wyland’s emotional arc. Why were Wyland and Tia in bed again? They must have reason...

Back Home Again
Not only does a sense of place permeate our writing, but I believe it’s a draw for our readers.
The first place I became aware of in books was Saint Mary Mead, the home of Miss Jane Marple. An English village, it appeared both before and after the Second World War in many Agatha Christie novels. I knew I was hooked when I decided if I could time travel, that’s where I would go.
That led me to the upper-middle and upper class world of England in the 1930s that populated so much of the Golden Age...

Turn Down the Noise
I’m a huge fan of staying busy. I thrive when I have too much to do and, despite what appears borderline nuts to others, I’m happiest when I’m actively engaged in projects and activities that pull me in several directions. While there are occasional moments of recognizing I’ve over-committed myself, for the most part I’ve discovered this is how I most enjoy living my life.
What I’ve found in the last few years, though, is that amidst all this activity, there is this pervasive sense of dissati...

Not a Romance
On the way to RWA nationals this year, I sat next to a lovely lady on one of my flights who was a reader. She was thrilled to hear I was going to a writing conference. She loved reading all sorts of books, including Fern Michaels.
“But her books are not really romances,” she told me. “They’re more about the different relationships.”
My immediate HEA-genre-trope recognition sensor went off. The circuits started humming with lights flashing: “Romance! Romance!”
“I hear her books are very good,” I...
