Rose and Helena Save Christmas

Rose and Helena coverROSE AND HELENA SAVE CHRISTMAS is  here!

Jana Deleon and I share a lot of readers. We’ve both planted things about each other in our books, and readers have loved it. So we thought it would be fun to collaborate on a novella together.

The result is ROSE AND HELENA SAVE CHRISTMAS!

If you’ve read THIRTY-THREE AND A HALF SHENANIGANS, you know that Mason gave Rose an early Christmas gift–a trip to New Orleans with her best friend Neely Kate. ROSE AND HELENA SAVE CHRISTMAS is their adventure while in NOLA. (Because we all know that Rose and Neely Kate can’t stay out of trouble.) The fun part it they visit Jana’s Ghost-in-Law series. If you’ve read that series, you know that Helena–a ghost–can get in a whole lot of trouble on her own. The best part is Neely Kate finally gets her wish, and she gets a supernatural gift: she can see Helena. Only seeing Helena isn’t necessarily a good thing… it usually means bad things are about to happen.

Some questions I’ve received:

Do I have to have read both series to read this novella?

No! We’ve purposely written this novella presuming no one had ever read our books before. Neither one of us wanted our readers to have to go back and read each other’s series to enjoy the novella. That being said, if readers decide to go read them later, we wouldn’t complain. ;)

Denise, why do you keep writing these novellas between the Rose Gardner books? It’s not fair to make us have to read them to read the novels.

First, when I write a Rose Gardner novel I always do it based on the presumption that readers have NOT read the novellas. To me, the novellas are extra. And if you’re a newsletter subscriber, you know that most of my novellas are actually released FREE on my website before the next novel is released. Sure, I make it available for purchase AFTER I post it on my website, but before, it’s my gift to my readers.

Second, I don’t expect all of my Rose readers to read the novellas because some people just don’t like to read shorter pieces. If anything important happens in a novella, I’m sure to include it in the next novel.

Third, with my between the novels books, I like try new things I can’t in a novel. Like writing other character’s POVs. We’re firmly in Rose’s head in the novels. It’s fun and enlightening to get other characters take on things. (Yes! For me too!) And with ROSE AND HELENA SAVE CHRISTMAS, it was fun to visit another character’s world.

ROSE AND HELENA SAVE CHRISTMAS was actually an experiment. Neither one of us had collaborated on a project like this but it went more smoothly than either of us had dreamed. I had so much fun writing it with Jana and I hope you all like it too!

Not to worry! There’s more Rose to come!

Thank you to everyone who has bought and read Thirty-Three and a Half Shenanigans. I’ve gotten quite a few emails from worried readers that the Rose Gardner series is over because they read “The End” at the end.

NOT TO WORRY!!!

I have plenty of more Rose projects in the works!!! I have a new eBook formatter and he added “The End” to help separate the Thirty-Three from the three chapters I included from my upcoming release The Substitute. Rose isn’t over! So what’s coming up?

FIRST, Jana DeLeon–author of the Ghost-in-Law and Miss Fortune series–and I have cowritten a Christmas novella titled Rose and Helena Save Christmas. (Preorder links below.) There’s a reason Rose and Neely Kate are going to New Orleans at the end of Thirty-Three, and it’s so they can visit Jana’s Ghost-in-Law world. We all know that Neely Kate is desperate for a supernatural gift and she gets her wish! But those of you familiar with the Ghost-in-Law series will know that seeing the ghost of Helena isn’t necessarily a good thing. Not to worry though! You don’t have to read Jana’s books to enjoy the novella. This book is completely standalone.

SECOND, I love my newsletter subscribers, so I’ll be posting another  Rose Gardner novella that they can read for free and before the novella is available for purchase.  Look for the links an password to hit your inbox sometime mid-January. Then I’ll send links around February and March 1st, but I’ll post more info about this as we get closer. This has no title yet, but it will include multiple POVs again. The novella will then be available for purchaseMarch 17, 2015. If there’s a particular POV you want included, comment below and let me know!

THIRD, Thirty-Four and a Half PredicamentsRose Gardner Mystery #7, will be released April 28, 2105. But that’s still not the end. I plan to release Thirty-Five and a Half (??) fall 2015.

As long as Rose is still growing as character, I still love writing her, and you love reading her, I’ll keep writing her!

Thanks so much for reading!!! I love you guys!

Denise

Rose and Neely Kate go to New Orleans and get into trouble…of course. But there’s even more trouble when Helena, a ghost with a penchant for crazy fashion statements, gets involved. It’s a match made in heaven for Neely Kate, or in this case for Helena, a match made on earth.

The novella will be available on:

Thirty-Three and a Half Shenanigans is LIVE!

It’s finally here! Book Six in the USA Today Bestselling Series, THIRTY-THREE AND A HALF SHENANIGANS is now LIVE! If you haven’t grabbed your copy yet, follow the links below.

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Rose is called into action when Neely Kate’s cousin goes missing and the police refuse to take it seriously. But while the authorities—Rose’s ex-boyfriend, included—are certain the missing woman has run away, mounting evidence points to foul play. Rose agrees to help her friend, even if it means partaking in Neely Kate’s shenanigans, including an impromptu trip to a strip club.

And because trouble never comes without a guest, Skeeter Malcolm, Fenton County’s newly crowned underground king, resurfaces, saying he needs Rose’s visionary gift to track down his enemies. He makes her the only offer she can’t refuse: The guaranteed safety of her assistant DA boyfriend, Mason Deveraux, who is being threatened by forces unknown. The Fenton County law enforcement is still abuzz about the infamous Lady in Black, who took part in the underground auction that earned Skeeter his crown. Can Rose risk a reprisal of her role?

As the stakes continue to rise and the search for Neely Kate’s cousin becomes increasingly complicated, Rose must struggle to keep both her secret identity and her sanity.

Curse Keepers #4

YES! There will be a Curse Keepers book #4! And also a #5 and #6.

I’m getting some feedback that readers feel deceived by the “trilogy” label on the Curse Keeper series, when the series isn’t ending. I never intended the series to be a trilogy.

I planned on writing least six books in the Curse Keeper series, possibly more. 47North was well aware of this. I sold them the first three books and three short stories. The original synopsis for book three ended with a very unsatisfying ending for a series.  So I wrote the first two books and a short story before I was aware that the book was being called a trilogy. That’s right. I found out AFTER I wrote THE CURSE BREAKERS, book #2.

I’ll be extremely honest. This put me in a very difficult situation. I had a whole lot of loose ends that needed to be tied up to create a satisfying conclusion to the “trilogy.” At the same time, I had no intention of tying them all up. Once I wrapped my head around the idea of a trilogy, I realized I could make this work. I had to. I didn’t have any choice in the matter.

The next question I get is when will book four be released? The simplest answer is that I’m not sure yet. All my other books are self-published. I’m used to publishing what I want, when I want. But once you add a publisher into the mix, it’s no longer that easy. They have rules that have to be followed. (See the above paragraphs.) I CAN say that the very soonest you will see the next Curse Keeper book will be Summer 2015, but there’s a chance it could be October 2015. As soon as I can share the information, I’ll post it here on the blog portion of my website as well as this page.

In the meantime, I have one more contracted release with 47North in the Curse Keeper world– a prequel short story from Collin’s POV titled “This is Your Destiny.” It will be out January 20, 2015. It’s available for preorder here. (Note: at the current time, the Curse Keepers series is Amazon exclusive.)

Curse Keepers Manteo Reader Weekend

The weekend of June 12-14, 2015 I will be hosting my first ever reader weekend in Manteo, North Carolina. Why Manteo? It’s the setting for my Curse Keeper series.

three covers 75

Manteo, North Carolina is on Roanoke Island and is a relatively small town. When you write about city, you can gloss over places, but in a town of 1200, it’s not so easy. I’ve visited Manteo three times for research and many of the places in the book either really exist or exist but I changed the name.

Last spring two readers visited Roanoke Island and asked me to point them to real locations existed that were in the book. As I saw their photos posted on Facebook, I started thinking how fun it would be to meet readers in Manteo and show them the sites myself.

And the Manteo Reader Weekend was born.

We’ve been planning this since May, and when I say we, I really mean my virtual assistant Lysa. She’s contacted lots of people in Manteo and arranged this entire trip. She’s amazing! So here’s what we have:

Manteo Reader Weekend flyer UPDATE 9.17

Stay in one of two bed & breakfasts, one of which is the inspiration for Ellie’s family inn. Eat lunch at the Full Moon Cafe (Ellie’s New Moon Restaurant–TCB) and see the table that Collin sat at when he broke the curse. Visit the botanical gardens where the 400+ year old tree–the gate to Popogusso–really exists  Tour Festival Park, the sight of the final showdown in THE CURSE BREAKERS, along with the Manteo Marsh lighthouse. On Friday we’ll eat dinner at Darrell’s Restaurant (TCB), but on Saturday we’ll be on foot and trolley–that’s right! Lysa’s booked a trolley to drive us around the island and over to Nags Head Pier. (TCD) It’s going to be a fun-filled weekend!!! The $340 includes lodging, breakfast, transportation on Saturday, and all park entry fees. You pay for lunch and your dinners. (I’ll be providing wine.) There will be some walking involved.

I’ve offered the spots to my street team and I still have spots left.  I’ll be opening registration on Friday, September 26 at 9:00 a.m. CDT. A deposit of HALF the registration fee will be required after your place has been confirmed. (We will send you an invoice.) The remaining half will be due April 1. A full refund (minus $25) will be offered as long as your spot can be filled from the waiting list. And if you can’t make it this year, not to worry. If all goes well, we’ll host another weekend in 2016.

I’m excited to show off Manteo and I’m excited to spend the weekend with YOU!
