Jerry Earl Brown was born in East Texas. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps when eighteen. Before seeing his first novel published, he sold stories and articles to various men's and outdoor magazines. His novels run the gamut from science fiction to present-day mystery/thrillers, with a cutting-edge science or metaphysical element in most. A certified scuba diver and member of the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, he has traveled extensively and loves the sea; but also loves the mountains. He lives and writes in the Rockies.

Seriously, I have been at this business for so long I don't really suffer from "writer's block." In the beginning I did but, if anything, I suffer now from Writer's Mania, or Writer's Obsession, or, with a nod to you rare Latin lovers, Furor Scribendi. By all that, I mean I have trouble leaving a project alone, putting it aside for some sensible enjoyment, conjugal bliss, conviviality, or just plain rest.

I do have moments in which things aren't moving in a book the way I want them to. Sometimes I can break through that barrier pretty easily in one way or another, sometimes it's harder, and sometimes I realize I'm trying to move things the wrong way, that something's wrong somewhere, with plot, subplot or character. Then I have to cut, erase, trash, take a walk, do a chore, get away from it for a while, and start over with a fresh and better development.

BEDEVILED SEA

In Brown’s (Snowmen, 1991, etc.) thriller, a man who can envision the locations of shipwrecks searches for treasure while dealing with Russians and an oil tycoon. Kyle Dawton has had odd episodes of apparent precognition since childhood, but only a few have turned out to be accurate. He uses his ability to sense the locations of sunken vessels for Argos Salvage, which he owns and runs with his bud Read more of this blog post »
