Book to Doc Review: “I’ll Be Gone in the Dark” by Michelle McNarmara

Three-ish years ago, Michaela got me to read a true crime book (which I normally hate) and I was blown away by this title. Now, I’ve finally watched the long-awaited HBO docuseries based on the book and I can’t believe I was ALSO blown away!

We created our own reading challenge | Reading Challenge Announcement

Wherein Gretchen and Michaela talk about the mini challenges they are plaining to use to help guide their buddy reads this year! We have been known in the past to use similar challenges to help us pick book club books and we also use them to help make sure that we are stepping out of our comfort zones and reading books that represent more than just our own experiences.

Book to Documentary Review: “The Soul of America” by Jon Meacham

OOH BOY has it been a time since I’ve done one of these reviews (3 years, actually), and this one was totally accidental. In this review, I talk about both the book “The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels” by Jon Meacham and also the HBO documentary that was made of it. I have *feelings.*

The Best and Worst Books of 2020

In which I go over my top five and bottom five reads of this year. Weirdly, each group contains two romance novels, two nonfiction books, and one young adult novel. That was not planned, I swear.

Kiss My Cupcake by Helena Hunting | Romance Book Review

I’ve read a few books by Helena Hunting, but this is the first one I’ve ever wanted to review. Why? Because it DOESN’T DO “THE THING.” There are a few romance book tropes that super bug me, and this one has a super sweet work around and I love it. Still confused? Watch away for an explanation!

This is Too Many Books on Nixon | American Presidents Reading Challenge Supplementals #3

I read nine books on the Nixon presidency. 10 if you count the actual biography. I never thought the answer “can you read too many books on Nixon in a row?” would be a question I would ever ask myself, but here we are.
